</TD></TR><TR><TD vAlign=top colSpan=3>Kevin Durant was able to walk without crutches on Monday and is hoping to return to action either on Saturday or Sunday after suffering a Grade II right ankle sprain on Feb. 27.
However, the sprain is very similar to the one that hindered Deron Williams for over a month and the Thunder plan on being cautious with his return. "We don’t want this to linger into the summer when he will develop into an even better player," coach Scott Brooks said. "Kevin is a big part of this franchise. We’re not going to jeopardize a couple of games here and there." Durant still might be a long shot to return this weekend.

</TD></TR><TR><TD vAlign=top colSpan=3>Corey Maggette and Ronny Turiaf will get Tuesday night off in Minnesota as part of Don Nelson's controversial plan to sit veterans for the time being.
Anthony Randolph and Andris Biedrins should both get plenty of run tonight, while Kelenna Azubuike should also enjoy some extra minutes. Stephen Jackson should also make a big splash after sitting out their last game under the same plan. Biedrins is scheduled for a day off on Friday, but Nelson hasn't said who he will sit for Wednesday's game against the Bulls. How about just letting his team play in that one?

Multiple sources report that Melo refused to leave the game when George Karl tried to take him out in the third quarter.
This is an unexpected turn of events, but we already knew he would sit out on Tuesday. It doesn't sound like his misbehavior will have any further repercussions. According to Nuggets VP Rex Chapman, "We look forward to having him back on Thursday and will have no further comment at this time."

Deng said that he plans to play, but admitted that he still has discomfort. "I'm going to have some pain, but I don't think I can make it worse," Deng said. His rosy prognosis is bad news for John Salmons' owners, since his grasp on a starting job is tenuous at best.

News and Notes

Kevin Garnett – There haven't been many updates on the status of KG lately, but the Celtics are going to take their sweet time in bringing him back and simply want to make sure that he's fully healthy for the playoffs. In fact, Doc Rivers may not even care about competing with the Cavaliers to get home court through the East as long as Garnett is at full strength for the playoffs. I doubt Garnett plays again this week and I'm even worried about how many minutes he will play when he returns at all. I kind of wish I'd just cut him in my "no-bench" league as soon as he got hurt, but I still own him in all leagues. I'm just not expecting much the rest of the way.

Luol Deng – Deng avoided catastrophe now that it's been announced he doesn't have a stress fracture. Instead he has a shin injury that could keep him out a few games, but ultimately leaves him day-to-day. Things were looking a little brighter for Tyrus Thomas owners there for a minute, but now we're back in the land of the unknown. Like – it's unknown how many minutes Vinny Del Negro will give Ty Thomas in his three games this week.

Jason Terry – Terry actually returned several weeks early from his broken hand and had eight points and two threes in 18 minutes on Sunday. I was really wrong about him, as I didn't think he'd play for another couple weeks. He's going to wear a protective glove for the rest of the season (so he says) and it may take him a week or so to get back in a groove. But as long as he stays healthy, his early return is big news for his owners and the Mavs.

Allen Iverson – Iverson mysteriously disappeared back to Detroit as soon as it was announced that he would be coming off the bench for the Pistons. He had his back checked out and it sounds like all systems are go for him to play on Tuesday. The question remains about what kind of attitude he's going to have about being benched. My guess is he will play along, but don't look for him to have any awe-inspiring performances, or to show too much emotion either way. I think he's going to take the approach of "I'm just going to go to work, do my thing, get my check and then go home and eat and drink."

Monta Ellis – Ellis could play at some point this week, and it sounds like he will play again this season, but until we get more concrete information you need to keep him benched.

Corey Maggette – We posted a blurb that he would miss Wednesday's game because he's not a young Warrior, but the article we used for that news has since changed. I would still not be surprised to see Maggette benched on Wednesday, but it is also not set in stone. Last I heard, Nellie was planning on sitting Maggette at some point, but the specific day has yet to be announced.

Andris Biedrins has been scheduled for a day off this Friday, so only count on him for three games this week. As far as I know, Stephen Jackson and Jamal Crawford should play in all four games this week, but then again, Nellie is going to do what he wants to do. And having Jackson in several lineups last night while he helped Nellie coach in street clothes was pretty painful.

Danny Granger – Granger hopes to return at some point on the Pacers' upcoming three-game road trip from a foot injury. I would bench him in weekly leagues unless you are stuck with a bunch of two-game options, but get ready to push him back into action in daily leagues.

Zach Randolph – Randolph flew to Indy after Saturday's game to be with his sick father. Given the fact they have a game tonight, it's quite possible he won't be in uniform. Hopefully we have an update before the games start, but as of now, Randolph is going to be hit or miss if you put him in your lineup in a weekly league.

Eric Gordon – Gordon hasn't been ruled out for tonight, but it doesn't sound like he'll play with a shoulder injury. The Clippers do want to get him back in action on Wednesday though, so start him at your own risk.

Chris Kaman – Kaman is supposedly still going to play in a bunch of games this season, but the 25 coach Mike Dunleavy called for is now just a dream. The Clips only have 22 games left on their schedule and Kaman still doesn't have a return date set. I would not recommend putting him in fantasy lineups until we've seen him play at least two games. And I would not expect much of anything if and when he does return.

Andrew Bynum – There are still a lot of Bynum owners holding out hope that he's going to return for the regular season, but I'm still not feeling it.

Chris Duhon – His turnovers have been a concern but he played very well in his last game and might be on the verge of being over his ankle injury. Should be a safe play for three games.

Kevin Durant – Durant says he wants to play this week and that his ankle sprain isn't that big of a deal, but I bet the Thunder's medical staff disagrees. There's chatter that he could miss just a week, but others are hinting that he could be out for about a month, just like Deron Williams was when he suffered similar sprain for the Jazz at the start of the season. Just bench Durant for now and hope he comes back next week.

Steve Nash – Nash has missed three straight games with a sprained ankle but says he wants to play on Tuesday. He's risky for the week, but I would start him if I owned him.

Greg Oden – Oden, whose injury wasn't expected to be a long-term thing, now sounds likely to sit for most of the upcoming week after missing seven straight games. He's been a lot more trouble than he's been worth this season, but just keep him benched for now.

Beno Udrih – Udrih was out for most of the week after playing so well in the previous one. He is expected back this week and can be played if you don't have other options, but I trust him about as far as I can throw him and the Kings only play two games.

Drew Gooden – Gooden was bought out by the Kings and could sign with the Cavalier, Mavericks or Spurs. I don't know if he's healthy enough to play, but he's at least worth keeping an eye on until we see where he lands.

Manu Ginobili – Manu should be getting close to coming back, but it may not happen this week. Keep him benched until we get some more information.

Shawn Marion – Marion left Sunday's game with the flu and will be iffy for Tuesday. If he misses Tuesday's game he'll play just two this week. Weigh your options carefully when looking at Marion.

Gilbert Arenas – Arenas is practicing and supposedly near full strength. The Wizards want him to play 15 games this season, but there's still no word on whether or not that will happen. Feel free to pick him up if you want to, but don't put him in your lineup until you actually see him play in a game.

Raja Bell - G/F - Bobcats

Bobcats shooting guard Raja Bell might miss Tuesday's game against the Bulls due to a strained right shoulder that has troubled him a couple of games.
Bell injured the shoulder sometime on the West Coast trip, didn't scrimmage on Monday and left shootaround early on Tuesday. He then told the Observer he wasn't sure whether he'd be well enough to play. Mar. 3 - 12:20 p.m. ET

Westbrook triple-doubles Kidd
There were only five games last night, while the injury news continues to keep rolling in. Read all about last night's game news and injury updates for Nate Robinson, Monta Ellis, Greg Oden, Kevin Durant, as well as why Corey Maggette won't be in uniform on Tuesday night.

Monday's Game News

The Thunder waxed the Mavericks last night, despite not having Kevin Durant or Jeff Green available. Russell Westbrook had his first career triple-double (17-10-10) and Nenad Krstic scored 26 points in the win. Kyle Weaver added 18 points and Thabo Sefolosha had 15 points and seven boards.

Josh Howard left in the first half after twisting his left ankle. This is a huge concern, as the same injury kept him out for several games earlier in the season.

Marvin Williams caught fire and hit 11-of-15 shots and four threes on his way to 28 points as the Hawks easily handled the Wizards last night. Mike Bibby hit just 3-of-11 shots as he continues to recover from the flu, but I think he'll be solid the rest of the week. Josh Smith had just 13 points and five boards, as his season of disappointment rolls on.

Caron Butler was a surprise DNP for the Wiz with a hamstring injury, and now owners have to hope it doesn't linger the rest of the week. Andray Blatche started in his place, while JaVale McGee came off the bench for 14 points, nine boards and three blocks. Dominic McGuire, a popular pickup and play this week, handed out seven assists in the first quarter and finished with a career-high nine dimes to go along with six points, six rebounds, two steals and a block for a decent all-around line.

The Hornets beat the Sixers behind big lines from Chris Paul and David West, but Peja Stojakovic tweaked his back, was not on the bench at the end of the game and in obvious pain in the locker room. Consider him day-to-day and congratulations if you played Rasual Butler this week.

Samuel Dalembert played just 13 minutes last night and has seen his playing time take a big hit recently. He was not playing good defense, which is his primary reason for existing in the Sixers' rotation.

Dwyane Wade and LeBron James squared off last night with the Cavs getting the better of the Heat. LeBron had 42 points, while Wade had a 5x5 game, except that it included eight turnovers.

The Spurs routed the Clippers, who were missing Eric Gordon (shoulder), Zach Randolph (personal), Ricky Davis (knee), Mardy Collins (foot) and Chris Kaman (foot). Marcus Camby, Al Thornton and Baron Davis actually played, although the six primary producers for the Clips scored between just 10 and 14 points as the team shot 37 percent. Gordon is hoping to return from his shoulder injury on Wednesday, but Randolph is in Indy visiting his ill father and we have yet to receive a status update on when we might see him again. Luckily, we posted that he was in Indy on Monday so you were hopefully able to get him out of your lineup.

Tony Parker and Tim Duncan both double-doubled for the Spurs.

News and Notes

Corey Maggette to sit out Tuesday - Corey Maggette and Ronny Turiaf are not expected to play for Don Nelson tonight at Minnesota. I could blast Nellie for the 57th time but there's not much left to say. Andris Biedrins is expected to be benched on Friday, but no word if there are plans to sit anyone on Wednesday. If you can, put Anthony Randolph or Kelenna Azubuike in your lineup tonight.

Carmelo Anthony suspended – Melo was already slated to miss tonight's game for personal reasons, but was then later suspended for an "in-game transgression" by the team. Either way, he won't play tonight, but is expected back on Thursday and should play in three games this week.

Allen Iverson out Tuesday - Allen Iverson will miss tonight's game with a back injury and is in D.C. getting his back checked out. It sounds like he thinks the problem might be serious, but there are also rumors that it could be directly related to his benching. We'll see. Rip Hamilton looks like a great play this week if you made that call.

Greg Oden out another 7-10 days - Oden's been ruled out for an additional 7-10 days with his knee injury, and even though they keep telling us it's not serious, he has been more trouble than he's worth this year. Who knows what his status will be two weeks from now?
<!--RW-->
Mike Dunleavy will probably have knee surgery - It sounds like Dunleavy will have knee surgery soon and his season is officially over. The surgery he's having is somewhat unprecedented and will likely leave his career in some jeopardy. In addition, it sounds like he'll have a hellish rehab scenario in front of him. Marquis Daniels, Jarrett Jack and Brandon Rush are all guys who will benefit from the loss of Dunleavy.

Kevin Durant hopes to play this weekend - Durant was not on crutches last night and it sounds like there is a chance he could play on Saturday or Sunday. However, the Thunder don't want to take any chances with him and it's important to remember he hasn't even run on it yet to test the injury. This is a very similar one to the sprain Deron Williams had to start the season and he missed 13 of his first 15 games, and was ineffective in the two he tried to play in. I'm not saying Durant will be out for that long, or that he won't play this weekend, but he does sound a bit overly optimistic to me.

Nate Robinson has left ankle sprain - Robinson missed yesterday's practice, but Frank Isola of the Daily News says he's likely to play on Wednesday against the Hawks. He was a little out of control on Saturday, chucking up bad shots and letting his emotions run wild, but that's just part of the package with Nate. Hopefully he plays tomorrow.

Monta Ellis' return date still unknown - Monta's still in Mississippi with his family but should rejoin the team sometime this week. We just don't know when he'll start playing again on his bum ankle. If I were running the show for the Warriors, he'd be done for the season. But then again, Stephen Jackson, Jamal Crawford, Corey Maggette and Andris Biedrins wouldn't be sitting out random games, either.

Vince Carter's elbow still not 100 percent - Vince Carter, who has struggled with his shot for close to a month, says his right elbow still isn't right and he's having trouble extending it on his shot. The good news is that he's playing through it.

Donte' Greene to get more run - The Kings plan on playing Donte' Greene more at power forward so he could have a little value in deeper leagues going forward. Just something to keep an eye on.

Raja Bell iffy with shoulder injury - Raja Bell might miss tonight's game against the Bulls due to a strained right shoulder that has been bothering him. Bell injured the shoulder sometime on the West Coast trip, didn't scrimmage at practice Monday and left shootaround early on Tuesday. Consider him a game-time decision, but my guess is he doesn't play tonight.

There was no mention of Emeka Okafor's ankle injury today, so it sounds like he should play.

Danny Granger out Tuesday, could play Wednesday - Danny Granger (foot) will not play tonight against the Kings, but could go tomorrow at Portland.

Luol Deng would like to play tonight - Luol Deng would like to play through his tibia injury tonight, but it sounds like John Salmons will start in his place. Tim Thomas is also iffy with a leg injury, although neither player has yet been ruled out. In addition, the Bulls plan on playing Derrick Rose the rest of the way and using him late in games, which is good news if you own him. And why John Paxson had to instruct Vinny Del Negro to implement this game plan is beyond me.

Shaq talking trash - Shaquille O'Neal's amazing play this season has him chirping more than ever. He called Chris Bosh the "Rupaul of big men" after Friday's game and he has been taking shots at Dwight Howard for some time. Shaq and Howard will go head to head tonight, which should be interesting, if nothing else. Here's one of Shaq's quotes about Howard and the "Superman" imitation.

"Doesn't bother me," Shaq said. "I can't be impressed by something I invented in '92. I mean, you look at what he is doing, I've been there and done that," O'Neal said. "Every street he is driving down in Orlando, I have been on that street. Every nightclub, every restaurant...I have been there and done that. Until he wins three, four championships, then we can talk about him. But right now, he is just like every other big guy. 'You can run and jump, but you haven't won yet."'

Kidd leads league in triple-doubles allowed - Jason Kidd, who was scorched by rookie Russell Westbrook last night, has also allowed huge triple-doubles to Rajon Rondo and Chris Paul, and opposing point guards have gone 30-10 against the Mavericks four times this season. In addition to Paul, Deron Williams, Tony Parker and Devin Harris have also hit 30-10 vs. Kidd. If you have a young gun playing against Kidd, make sure he's in your lineup.

Caron Butler - G/F - Wizards

Caron Butler (hamstring) didn't practice on Tuesday, but will travel to Oklahoma City with the Wizards and is expected to be reevaluated prior to Wednesday night's game.
The fact that he's traveling is probably a good sign, but it's still not guaranteed he'll play. We should have more information on Butler's status sometime Wednesday afternoon. Mar. 3
