Gasol played through the injury, shooting 9-of-12 from the field, so we're not overly concerned. It's worth keeping an eye on, obviously -- the Lakers next game is vs. the Warriors on Thursday.

Injuries are piling up for Boston, but with any luck we won't have to keep Allen on our extensive 'injury watch'. We should have an update following the team's shootaround, so check back soon.

Fantasy Related But Great Info.....

Nellie & Crawf Crushing Owners
There is so much injury news out there on Wednesday morning that I really don't even know where to start. Do I start with LeBron James' massive line from Tuesday, the fact the Sixers won at the Lakers thanks to a buzzer-beating 3-pointer by Andre Iguodala, Jamal Crawford's two-game benching "just because," or with the sudden emergence of Arron Afflalo with Rip Hamilton's groin injury set to linger? I guess the best place to start is with the injury report, followed by a few of last night's headlines. Hopefully one of your main cogs is not listed below, but chances are your team was bitten by injuries or strange coaching decisions last night.

Last Call For Brackets

Fill out your NCAA brackets if you haven't yet. Thursday's deadline is looming, but you can just click on the It's Madness link to complete your picks.

Doops – A Correction

I wanted to point out that Keyon Dooling actually played 35 minutes on Monday night, and not the 18 minutes that some websites still have listed for him in the box score. With there being no timetable for Devin Harris' return from a shoulder injury, Dooling should be owned in nearly all leagues, and starting for the time being.

Warriors' Report

Jamal Crawford was held out of last night's win against the Clippers and will also miss Thursday's TNT game against the Lakers, just because Don Nelson said so. Hopefully Crawford will play in the team's other two games this week, but who really knows at this point? I am so disgusted with Nellie that I don't even know what to say. Especially since Crawford is in one of my weekly lineups with a ton riding on this week. Maybe all the Crawford owners in the world can unite and bring some sort of lawsuit against Nellie for ruining their playoff dreams. Crawford was cut in that league and I excitedly picked him up and played him, despite knowing there was some risk involved. I just didn't think Nellie would really bench him for two games this week.

It now sounds like Andris Biedrins is out until April with his ankle injury. That means you probably have to cut him depending on your situation, but it's quite possible that his season is over. Even though no one has apparently told Nellie or Monta Ellis, the Warriors have officially been eliminated from the playoffs, in case you didn't know. Ronny Turiaf should be solid the rest of the way, but who knows if he'll get the minutes or not.

Ellis had 29 points last night, Kelenna Azubuike flirted with a triple-double (which will happen when Stephen Jackson (suspended) and Crawford are sitting in street clothes), and Anthony Morrow added 20 points. Ellis is starting to look fantastic and I like the way he's playing, yet I don't understand why he's even in there. Who knows if he'll still be getting run next week, but Ellis looks pretty darn good at the moment.

Duncan't

Tim Duncan was a surprise DNP last night as Gregg Popovich decided to rest his knees again. Hopefully it was a just a one-game thing and he'll be ready to go after getting both Tuesday and Wednesday night off, as the Spurs are idle tonight.

Pau's Pinkie

Pau Gasol suffered a right pinkie finger injury last night, but played through it to finish with 25 points, eight rebounds, six assists and three blocks. It was serious enough that X-rays were taken, but it sounds like he's OK. Pau is officially listed as day-to-day, but it would be surprising to see him miss time with the injury.

Murphy's Law, Granger To Start

Troy Murphy had done a fantastic job of avoiding injuries this season, but finally appears to be going down. He's dealing with a left calf injury and is listed as doubtful for tonight's game. He's only missed six games this season and owners are in for a rude awakening when they find out how difficult it may be to win if he's in street clothes. Hopefully he misses only one game with the problem. Danny Granger will start tonight against the Trailblazers, so get him in your lineup.

Yao Misses Practice, Teammate Shot

Yao Ming missed practice on Tuesday with the same flu that kept him out of Monday's game. He's hoping to play tonight, but that will obviously depend on how he feels this afternoon. Dikembe Mutombo started in his place on Monday. Carl Landry was shot in the leg after Monday's game and could miss the rest of the season, although they're saying he'll be back in a few weeks. Thankfully he wasn't seriously injured in what is being reported as a blown robbery attempt.

KG, Rondo, Allen, Powe, Davis All Beat Up

Kevin Garnett would like to play in Boston's final two games of the week with his gimpy knee, but Doc Rivers is showing very few signs that it will happen. In addition, Rajon Rondo (who had 26-5-10 last night) hurt his right ankle during the game and is now iffy against the Heat, and Ray Allen hyper-extended his right elbow in the fourth quarter as well. There's plenty of mystery surrounding the C's lineup tonight, but there is usually solid info coming out of Boston throughout the day, so I fully expect we'll have some early updates on these guys. In addition to the already smarting Glen Davis, Leon Powe left last night's game fairly early with a right knee injury, and he's also going to be day-to-day going forward. If you started Kendrick Perkins or Paul Pierce this week, it looks like the move could really pay off. Glen Davis could play tonight through his ankle injury, although he's still listed as 'doubtful.'

Rip's Groin Injury, Sheed Still Down

Rip Hamilton is now doubtful for tonight's game after missing Tuesday with a groin injury. He says he's in a lot of pain and that it's getting worse, so guess what that means at this time of the year? He could play over the weekend and be fine, but my guess is he's going to get some rest between now and the playoffs. Arron Afflalo started in his place last night and had 16 points, six boards, a steal and four 3-pointers, and could be a sweet pick up if Rip is going to miss some time.

Rasheed Wallace missed Tuesday's game and isn't expected to play tonight either, due to his lingering calf injury. I don't know when he'll return, but my guess is that he'll play by the end of the week. Jason Maxiell started again for Sheed last night, but wasn't all that great.
<!--RW-->
Snapdraft

With 11 NBA games tonight is there a better time to check out Snapdraft and try to win a little cash?

All That Jazz

Deron Williams (calf) and Mehmet Okur (ankle) started for the Jazz despite their injuries last night, but neither was spectacular. Williams had 12 points, eight assists and eight turnovers, while Memo had 13 points and six rebounds. Ronnie Brewer was benched for the entire first quarter after being tardy to shootaround, but still managed to finish with 13 points, five boards and two steals. Make sure he's not still available in your league with a five-game week on the horizon.

Butler Out?

Caron Butler has not ruled himself out for the rest of the week, but if you can think of any reason he would play through his hamstring injury against the Clippers tonight, please let me know.

Wally's Knee

Wally Szczerbiak left last night's game with a left knee injury and did not return. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Cook Aggravates Injury

Daequan Cook took a shot in the face at Tuesday's practice, which aggravated the dental surgery he recently had. He will be very risky the rest of the week, so look for other options.

K-Mart To Close After Lunch?

Kenyon Martin will apparently only play in the first half of games until further notice. His back has been tightening up during the break, so George Karl and K-Mart have agreed that starting and playing the first half is the way to go. We'll see how long that plan lasts, as it's just not something you see happen very often in the NBA. In fact, I never recall it happening, but it will all depend on how his back feels from day-to-day. His main beneficiary from the injury is Renaldo Balkman, but he's also injured with a sore groin. Balkman says he wants to play tonight, which would be great since he's in so many fantasy lineups this week. If neither can go, Chris Andersen could be in line for a big night.

Knick Knacks

Danilo Gallinari's season is very likely over. He's headed to Italy and may be ready to have surgery on his back. Chris Duhon is expected back tonight, although it's still unclear whether or not he's starting. Maybe the days off will give him a boost and he'll put up some big numbers tonight, but I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you. Just keep a close eye on him if he was dropped in your league. Al Harrington is dealing with a right ankle injury suffered in Tuesday's practice and is questionable for tonight's game against the Nets. He played well in his last one and appeared to be on his way out of the doghouse.

Oden Appearance Coming?

Greg Oden has been upgraded to questionable for Wednesday's game at Indy with a bone chip in his knee. Even though it's possible he may play tonight, or before the end of the week, I'm not expecting big minutes or production. At least not right away.

Surgery Coming For Josh

Josh Howard is going to need surgery on his left ankle at some point, but he's hoping to play through the injury before opting for the procedure. He is out at least another week though, and may or may not be back to finish the season. I've received a lot of testimonials from folks who say that cutting Howard has cleansed their soul, so to speak, so take that for what it's worth.

Collison Hurts Hand Again

Nick Collison broke a bone in his right hand but is expected to play tonight. He hasn't exactly been tearing it up, but if you have another option, you may want to use it tonight.

Darko, Arthur GTD's

Darko Milicic (back) and Darrell Arthur (knee) are listed as game-time decisions for Wednesday. If they can't go, Hakim Warrick should be a decent play.

Tuesday's Game Headlines

King Does It Again

LeBron James racked up 43 points, 12 boards, eight assists, four steals, a block and four 3-pointers in a win over the Magic. While Kobe Bryant could easily win it, I'm thinking the MVP award is probably going to LeBron this year.

Rashard In A Funk, Skip Breaks Out Of His

Rashard Lewis was terrible last night, hitting just 3-of-15 shots for six points and is now just 3-of-26 from downtown over his last four games. If you were innovative and put him on your bench in a weekly league, so far, so good.

Rafer Alston had five steals and a nice all-around game after being cut by many owners recently. We'll see if he can keep it going.

Z-Back

Zach Randolph returned from missing a couple games and had 20 points and 11 rebounds. He should be good to go, while Baron Davis chipped in with 29 points and seven assists, and Al Thornton added 25 points in a loss to the Warriors.

Iguodala Beats Kobe

Kobe Bryant scored just 11 points and watched helplessly as Andre Iguodala answered Kobe's long jumper with a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to beat the Lakers in L.A. Iguodala finished with 25 points in the win. Iguodala and Andre Miller were both iffy for this one with minor injuries, but played through them. For the Lakers, Trevor Ariza had another nice line, finishing with 16 points, eight boards and three 3-pointers. He's played well in his last two games and deserves serious consideration as long as he's starting and playing well.

Pierce's 37 Not Enough For Bulls

Paul Pierce scored 37 points but the Celtics fell to the Bulls, dropping their record to 6-6 without Kevin Garnett recently. Brad Miller had 21 & 14 off the bench, John Salmons threw in 38 points and three 3-pointers (but had just three boards and zero assists), and Tyrus Thomas played well with 18 points, five boards and two blocks.

Dampier Steps Up As Kidd Steps Down

Erick Dampier somehow double-doubled last night with 16 & 13, but Jason Kidd was awful, finishing with just two points, three boards, six assists and a steal. As it has been all season, it's either feast or famine with Kidd.

K-Love's Big Night Not Enough

Kevin Love had 17 points and 19 boards in a loss to the Spurs, who were led by Tony Parker's 24 points and six dimes.

Bibby Is Back

Mike Bibby had 18 points, five rebounds, seven assists and three 3-pointers and is finally a must-start again, as the Hawks beat the Kings for their sixth win in a row. Josh Smith double-doubled again for the fourth time in his last six games, and looks much better. Al Horford was big again, finishing with 23 points, 12 boards and six assists on 9-of-13 shooting. The Kings got eight points, four boards and six assists from Beno Udrih's return to the starting lineup, but he hit just 3-of-12 shots. Kevin Martin led the team with 31 points, but regardless of how many points he scores, his team continues to lose games.

Peja Stojakovic - G/F - Hornets

Peja Stojakovic is likely to miss another game on Wednesday, his eighth in a row, because of lingering back problems.
"My gut tells me he will play in this homestand, I'm not sure if it'll be Friday, Sunday or Wednesday," said Hornets coach Byron Scott. As long as Peja remains out, Scott may insert Morris Peterson into the starting lineup instead of Julian Wright, giving New Orleans another perimeter threat. Mar. 18

As quickly as he emerged in the MVP race, Wade acknowledged he could just as rapidly exit the debate that also features LeBron James and Kobe Bryant. "I've got a bigger burden on my hands than the other two to stay in that race," he said. "Those guys are 50-plus wins. We're still trying to fight for a position in the playoffs. I've got a little bit more to go to stay in that race."
#

At the very moment coach Erik Spoelstra said he was hopeful of guard Daequan Cook returning after missing two games following oral surgery, Cook took a blow to the left side of his face at the end of Tuesday's practice from forward James Jones that again put his availability in question. Cook ended the session with an ice pack wrapped about his left cheek.
#

Spoelstra explained Tuesday that the reason Jones did not play Sunday in Philadelphia was a preference of utilizing Yakhouba Diawara's defense against Andre Iguodala, after Diawara had excelled in the matchup in the previous meeting against the 76ers. Spoelstra said Jones would play against the Celtics.
#

Despite yielding only 85 points to the 76ers in Sunday's eight-point loss, Tuesday's focus was on defense. "Our defense has dropped, and that's a concern of mine," Spoelstra said. "We know you have to be able to defend to grind out games."

Miami Heat at Boston Celtics

  1. The Heat's victory last Wednesday in Miami ended a six game losing streak to the Celtics.
  2. Miami has won five of its last seven games overall, but dropped seven of its last nine played on the road.
  3. The Celtics have lost four of their last five games overall and three straight on the road. Boston is 9-9 since its 12-game winning streak from January 11-February 3.
  4. Dwyane Wade was held to just 18 points against Philadelphia on Sunday, after averaging 43.3 points in his previous three games.
  5. Paul Pierce is averaging just 11.8 points in his last four meetings with Miami.
  6. Jermaine O'Neal has scored at least 20 points in each of his last two games (24.0 ppg) and has recorded at least one block in 19 consecutive games.

Heat-Celtics Preview
By DAN PIERINGER,
STATS Writer
(AP) -- After carrying the Miami Heat to three straight victories, Dwyane Wade was understandably exhausted as the streak came to an end in the team's last game.
Two nights off before a meeting with the struggling and injury-plagued Boston Celtics should help the league's leading scorer bounce back.
Wade and the Heat go for their second win over the Celtics in a week when the clubs square off Wednesday night in Boston.
Wade averaged 43.3 points on 53.8 percent shooting and also had 6.7 rebounds, 9.3 assists and 4.0 steals to lead Miami (36-30) during last week's winning streak. Despite that, Wade failed to repeat as the league's Eastern Conference player of the week, losing out to LeBron James.
The All-Star guard also averaged more than 47.0 minutes per game in that stretch, because the Heat needed double-overtime to beat Chicago 130-127 on March 9 and triple-overtime to get past Utah 140-129 on Saturday.
After playing a career-high 52-plus minutes against the Jazz, a weary Wade was held to 18 points on 8-for-21 shooting in an 85-77 loss at Philadelphia on Sunday.
"I didn't have the energy," said Wade, who still played 34-plus minutes.
The same was true for his teammates. Miami was held to nine points in the fourth quarter and combined to shoot 2-for-17 from the field in the final 10 minutes.
"We were probably fatigued," Miami coach Erik Spoelstra said. "There are games where you can't close them out."
The Heat were idle Monday and Tuesday, giving Wade rest that could come in handy against the Celtics, who haven't looked very fresh lately either. Boston (50-17) has lost four of five to fall to 9-9 since its 12-game winning streak from Jan. 11-Feb. 3.
The Celtics looked particularly sluggish defensively in a 127-121 loss at Chicago on Tuesday. It was the highest point total allowed by Boston since the team acquired Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett before last season, setting it up for its 17th NBA championship.
Part of the problem Tuesday was the continued absence of Garnett. The league's reigning defensive player of the year missed his 12th consecutive game with a knee injury. He's expected to return soon, but won't play Wednesday.
Allen could join him on the sideline after hyperextending his right elbow against the Bulls.
"It's all predicated on how I feel (Wednesday)," Allen said.
Leon Powe, filling in for Garnett in the starting lineup, was also injured Tuesday. He bruised his right knee when he ran into Chicago's Ben Gordon while trying to set a screen and will be re-evaluated Wednesday.
The depleted Celtics could have a hard time keeping up with the Heat, who had six players score in double figures in their 107-99 home win over Boston last Wednesday. Wade led Miami with 32 points and sealed the victory with a 3-pointer with 34 seconds left.
Allen had 27 points and Powe added 23 with 13 rebounds in that game. Paul Pierce, the only fully healthy member of Boston's "Big Three," added 16 points on 5-for-10 shooting.
The Celtics, who won their first meeting with the Heat on Jan. 21, are just one half-game ahead of Orlando for second place in the Eastern Conference. Miami is fifth, three games back of Atlanta for home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs.

About the Pacers: Indiana has lost three in a row, the latest a 110-87 no-show in Toronto on Sunday that players called "embarrassing" and their coach described as being "pounded." ... In a good news-bad news scenario, the Pacers welcomed the return of leading scorer Danny Granger, who missed 11 games with a torn tendon in his right foot, but lost forward Troy Murphy to a calf injury. Murphy, who is listed as doubtful, is third in the NBA in rebounding (11.9 per game) and tied for sixth in three-point percentage (44.6 percent). Granger came off the bench and scored 10 points on 3 of 11 shooting in 18 minutes against the Raptors Sunday. "I thought I played 32," Granger quipped. "It takes a while to get back into rhythm." ... Indiana is in 13th place in the Eastern Conference, three games behind Chicago for the eighth and final playoff spot. ... The Pacers are the only team in the NBA that has beaten the teams with the four best records: L.A. Lakers, Cleveland, Boston and Orlando. Against teams below .500, the Pacers have a 15-18 record.

Following the Trail Blazers
What: Portland at Indiana
When: Wednesday, 4 p.m.
Where: Conseco Fieldhouse
On the air: TV on CSN (Comcast 37); radio on KXTG (95.5)

Oden upgraded: The Blazers on Tuesday upgraded center Greg Oden from out to questionable after the team went through a light workout in Indianapolis. Coach Nate McMillan said Oden will be a game-time decision. "He says he is feeling better and that he is not experiencing any discomfort," McMillan said. On Tuesday, Oden ran through offensive plays for more than 30 minutes and continued to run up and down the court as he has for the past two days. Indianapolis is Oden's hometown, and if he returns tonight McMillan said he will come off the bench. Oden has missed 15 games with a chipped left knee cap, suffered when he banged knees with Golden State's Corey Maggette on Feb.12. "We will have to bring him along slowly because of his conditioning," McMillan said. "And we will have to monitor his playing time." The Blazers are 14-7 this season without Oden.

Blazers by the numbers: Brandon Roy has scored 20 or more points in nine consecutive games, which is a career-high and the third longest current streak in the NBA behind the Lakers' Kobe Bryant (13) and Dallas' Dirk Nowitzki (10). New Orleans guard Chris Paul is fourth with seven consecutive games of 20 or more. Miami's Dwyane Wade recently had a string of 21 games snapped. ... Roy is tied for seventh in the NBA in scoring with Minnesota's Al Jefferson at 23.1. With 15 games remaining, Roy is trying to become the first Blazers player to finish in the NBA's top 10 scoring leaders since Clyde Drexler finished fourth in 1991-1992 at 25.0 a game. ... Steve Blake ranks fourth in the NBA in assists-to-turnover ratio (3.29), behind leaders Jose Calderon (4.13), Chris Paul (3.65), Jason Kidd (3.65) and Derek Fisher (3.48). ... Joel Przybilla is tied with Suns center Shaquille O'Neal for 16th in the league in rebounding (8.5).
Series history: This is the last of two meetings this season. The Blazers on March4 ended a nine-game losing streak to the Pacers with a 107-105 win at the Rose Garden. Indiana led by 14 in the third quarter and 10 in the fourth before the Blazers came back. The Blazers have lost four in a row at Conseco. All-time, the Blazers lead 41-29. In Indiana, the Pacers are 19-15.

Injuries: Pacers forward Mike Dunleavy (right knee) is out and forward Murphy (bruised left calf) is doubtful. Blazers center Oden (left knee) is questionable and forward Martell Webster (left foot) is out.

No excuse
Posted by Mike Wells

TORONTO - Some of you probably look at the standings and think the Pacers still have a chance at making the playoffs because they're only 2 1/2 games out of the last playoff spot.

Don't kid yourself.

Grab the nearest white towel in your house, ball it up and throw it in the middle of the floor as a sign of giving up.

The Pacers are done (sorry Keauhou).

There's no excuse to go up to Toronto and get embarrassed by a Raptors team that was on a seven-game losing streak.

A loss like that would be understandable if they were playing Cleveland, Boston, the Lakers or Orlando. We're talking about Toronto, though.

You would have thought the Raptors were the ones trying to get the eighth seed the way they smacked the Pacers around both ends of the court.

The Pacers played like they were already on summer vacation.

"They just pounded us," coach Jim O'Brien said. "When they get it going, they're really good. There's not many times that we've been out of games that we lost by this type of margin. It's one of those games that happens in the NBA."

Who is Pops Mensah-Bonsu?

The Pacers gave him so much confidence that he was trying to dunk every time he got the ball.

Embarrassing.

"We'll see on Wednesday (against Portland) if guys on this team are going to step up and show they have some (guts) and if we want to continue this season in the playoffs or not," center Jeff Foster said. "The last two games, it's been a sign of how bad our defense is. All the mistakes we're making defensively, it's causing us to struggle offensively as well. Teams are outplaying us and taking it to us. We have to man up and see how we respond."

--This was the second straight game where the starting backcourt of T.J. Ford and Jarrett Jack took the majority of the shots. The two are a combined 28-of-70 from the field in the past two games.

That's too many shots for them.

--It was good to see Danny Granger back in action.

He definitely looked rusty, which was expected since he had missed the previous 11 games with a partially torn tendon.

"I'm glad I got that out the way," he said. "I played 18 minutes, but I thought I played 32. That's how it feels. It'll come around. It takes awhile to get back in rhythm."

Granger was involved in a play that should definitely make ESPN's Sportscenter.

Granger was posterized when the Matrix went over him for a one-handed dunk in the third quarter.

Granger said he probably should have tried to block the dunk instead of attempting to draw the charge.

Too late now.

The things people say
Posted by Mike Wells

ATLANTA - I wanted to share an email I received from a fan recently about All-Star forward Danny Granger.

"Please don't join the chorus of fans who think the Pacers are better with Granger. He is a spoiled hot head who thinks only of himself. He only plays when he has the ball. He could not guard his Grandmother unless given a pay raise. He should be traded now before he hijacks the Pacers management with another ludicrous long term contract that has crippled this team for years."

I guess I'm joining in because I DO think the Pacers are a better team with Granger. The scoring has definitely been spread around since Granger, who has missed 11 straight games, went down last month. What they don't have, though, is player on the roster that opposing teams say they have to shut down other than Granger.

Granger's the last player I think would try to hijack Pacers management. That's an absurd comment.

Granger's defense has declined some this season. He focuses too much on the offensive end of the court. That's the word I've heard from a number of scouts this season. His best defense this season has been his ability to block shots.

I remember when he took pride in stopping the opposing team's best perimeter player.

That's not the case anymore.

He'll do it every now and then, but he needs to do it on a regular basis.

Granger's not going to be known as a complete player until he defends at a high level and also contributes offensively at the same time.

It can't be one or the other. It has to be both.

Don't get me wrong, Granger definitely deserved to be an All Star because of his offensive explosiveness this season.

Granger said his goal is to be in the lineup for Sunday's game at Toronto.

--Backup point guard Travis Diener played only six minutes against the Hawks after injuring his toe in the second quarter.
"He said he was willing to give it a go second half, but guys banged up I prefer not to ask them to limp out there," coach Jim O'Brien said.

Nets suspend Williams for two games
March 18, 2009

The Nets acted swiftly in issuing a punishment to Sean Williams, who was arrested on Monday in Colorado. They announced about an hour ago that the second-year forward has been suspended for two games for conduct detrimental to the team.

The suspension begins tonight, when the Nets will play the Knicks, and includes Friday's game against the Heat.
