Every year there are tons of accusations that the NBA is fixed. I am a believer that a handfull of officials help assist outcomes of games ATS. I do not think officials or anyone cares who wins SU, but do have a say in the ATS results on sides and totals.

Do you think that the NBA has a slew of games that are pre-determined as the season plays out?

Thanks

mark cuban was quoted about a year ago on PTI saying he was "told by another owner that occasionaly games are 'pre determined' by stern and co."

I do not think any NFL is fixed incidenitally. i do think strike zones can occasionaly be biased in the MLB, it isnt always enough to get such and such a team a win,

Good post Rob. I can see how easy it would be. A whistle can control tempo, sit a player, allow points via FT's.

I cannot present any facts, but assume I am a victim of conspiracy theory syndrome.

the opportunity to change the game or award points to a team exists every possesion and almost every play compounded by the fact they work in multiples of 1, 2 & 3. its easy for a ref to pick his spots and have it go unoticed quite often, but yet drastically alter several factors in a game namely the ones in relation to the total and the spread. the best officiating always seems to get done in close games when the spread and o/u are no longer in question. then all the contact stuff often seems fair for both sides.

this doesnt exist in any other sport except maybe with the exception of the pass interference call in football or offsides (& or false start) when its 3rd down late in a football contest. its funny how neither can be challenged or reviewed, yet they often make the biggest impacts in games.

I would think logically it would be much easier to fix a total than a side in an NBA game. Free throws alone could be worth an extra 20-30 points, depending on how tightly the games are called.

Naturally, being a former college basketball referee, I am of the opinion that with instant replays and all the media scrutiny, a ref would have to be nuts to try and fix an NBA game. Especially with the amount of money he makes EACH season!

for the right amount of money ..someone can buy an official..no questions asked.

it happens alot more often than we think...especially when the game has already been determined..blowouts and such...

Mango man - Wasn't talking about college officials (although you would be surprised what a Big Ten official makes). I was talking about an NBA official.
