A few more reasons why I like this total.
Cinncinatt crushed the Mids last week. Probably their worst game since CPJ took over in 2002. What was strange however is that Cinncinati lined up in a defense that Navy almost always destroys. I’m not sure what’s going on with this team, but their still Navy and the easiest part of their day is still football practice.
Last year, UCF had a better team and it was tied after Navy’s first possession in the 3rd quarter. UCF’s defense is objectively worse this year and has the 93rd ranked defense in the nation.
Navy has had quarterback problems this year and had Malcolm Kelly start the year at QB. He is awesome, and he’s too small, and he can’t throw. In order for Navy to be successful, their QB has to be big or he has to be able to throw, he can’t not do both. A lot of people don’t remember that Zach Abey was the MVP of their bowl game last year and has been the go to call for a score inside the 2 yard line. When it became obvious that Kelly wasn’t the answer at QB, Abey was hurt so they gave Garrett Lewis a try and he was OK but the losses have been piling up.
We thought it would turn around last week with Abey being given the start, and honestly not many people who follow this team know wtf happened against Cinncy. I’m not sure I’ve seen a Navy team as bad as this one on the defensive side when it comes to fundamentals, and UCF is probably not the team that you want to face when you’re having these problems.
UCF deserves to be ranked, but they’re not as good as Notre Dame and Navy covered 22 in South Bend. All three of these lines moving in my favor since open.
