<TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width="90%" border=0><TBODY><TR><TD width="100%"><SMALL>Washington, DC (Sports Network) - The Washington Nationals activated second baseman Jose Vidro from the 15-day disabled list prior to their contest with the New York Mets on Tuesday.</SMALL></TD></TR><TR><TD width="100%"> </TD></TR><TR><TD width="100%"><SMALL>The 30-year-old Vidro had been sidelined since injuring his left ankle while sliding into home plate in a May 4 contest against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

At the time of the injury, Vidro was hitting .290 with four homers and 15 RBI in 28 games.

A three-time All-Star, Vidro ranks among the franchise's all-time leaders in batting (second at .304), hits (sixth at 1,090), doubles (fifth at 263), home runs (seventh with 105), RBI (sixth with 486) and walks (seventh with 338).

In a related move, Washington optioned infielder Rick Short to Triple-A New Orleans of the Pacific Coast League. After spending the last 11-plus seasons in the minors, Short had a hit in two at-bats in three games for the Nationals.</SMALL>
