www.donotcall.gov or by calling 1-888-382-1222 (TTY 1-866-290-4236).

Heard mixed results on this. They said on the phone in 3 months no solicitors will call. We'll see. If you want to sign up it only takes a second but you have to be at the number you don't want any calls at. The FTC is behind it so it may have some teeth behind it.

Now if that was General calling to borrow money they can't do anything about that Dante.

Actually she said something about it being 3 months away from being enforced. After that write down who calls and their phone number and you can report them.

I signed up also;
Last week 2 calls: One (a recording) telling me I was preapproved for something. Hung up

Next one--Live call Some fellow representing the Nation Firefighters Assn. Hung up (These of course will NEVER stop--plus all the different police associations with every type of name , etc.

A total joke!

It's a complete joke. The number of exemptions (most annoyingly, for political ads) and the loopholes involved just set it up as an expensive waste of time.

If you are bothered by telemarketers, why not just take steps to eliminate your phone number from their directories? Stop giving out your phone number with every form you file to sign up to win a free car wash or $ 10.00 phone card, stop spreading it, and you won't get calls. I get maybe 2-3 telemarketers calling per month, if that.

That donotcall list was ruled unconsitutional in a Federal court (free speech). I think it is not in effect right now as a result of that.

No it's in effect. It'll take 3 months from the time you sign up for it to work. And It will work.

It was only a jurisdictional matter ... wrong agency taking responsibility for it, which has since been changed.
