Disagree. I love Maia but Nate has very good defensive bjj & good wrestling to go along much better than average striking while Maia is amazing on the mat he has only proven than he can sub a bunch of cans that are prone to be submitted anyways. Nate just has too many skills & has the smarts & ground game to foil the sub attempts of Maia. Maia will be a great fighter but is record is a bit hollow right now & he's too one dimensional
Disagree.....jumped on Marquardt at the early line. Maia has performed well submitting B/C level talent in the UFC....many of which are guys susceptible to submissions. Nate is an elite level MW and will present a big step up for Maia.
You point out Marquardt's win record but have to realize, his days in Pancrase were under rules that skewed fights to more submission finishes. In the UFC, Nate has been continuously adding to his striking game and has looked very good standing of late. The only instinct Nate will have in this fight is to keep it standing, where he will have a huge advantage over Maia. Nate only goes to the ground willingly if he has stunned Maia.
