I grew up watching Alabama football so my three picks come from the Tide.

1. Lee Roy Jordan (linebacker) All American and All Pro with Dallas Cowboys.
2. John Hannah (guard) All American and All Pro with New England Patriots.
3. Terry Davis (quarterback) when Bama switched to the wishbone...Davis was the key to the start of
a "hell of a run" for Alabama football in the 70's. Not All American and didn't play in pros.

Of course as a kid playing QB in HS...loved Namath, Stabler...........

Clover. Really? There is not ONE 'Bama player that would land in the Top 30, much less 3. My favorites were O.J, Roger Stauback of the Navy, and Illinois Dick Butkus. To be honest, I saw a lot more football all over the country than most people did.

Might help if you read the topic of thread. Not one funcken word about top 30, best ever, greatest, etc...

Will repeat "YOUR (MY) FORUM's "FAVORITE" college players. Most people never heard of Terry Davis...but he lead the
Tide to an ass whipping of Southern Cal when Bear went to the wishbone during the first game of the season at USC.

I would add: Herschel Walker, Reggie Bush, John Elway, Howard Twilley, and Bo Jackson - many to choose from

Flutie was fun to watch....saw him play against Alabama and he was amazing.

Russ good one with Howard Twilley....bet you "most" people here don't have a clue who he was.

Throw it and that dude would catch it....

There's "favorite" and "best". My favorite's are like CL's, from my team. I grew up in Jacksonville, and graduated from UF, so my favorite players (that I actually saw):

- Emmitt Smith
- Wilbur Marshall
- Tim Tebow

(Honorable Mention: Danny Wuerffel, Shane Matthews, Lomas Brown, Ricky Nattiel, Cris Collinsworth)

The "Best" I've seen in person (all in Gainesville or in Jacksonville):

- Hershel Walker
- Bo Jackson
- Charlie Ward
- Marvin Jones

RT, help me out........who is Joe Olsavsky?

Mack, thought I went back a few years for my favorites....but you got me beat with Alan Ameche.

8ate, Herschel Walker had the best freshman year of any player I had the privilege of watching.

Clover: I was a freshman/sophomore at Wisconsin when Ameche was a Junior/Senior....He was a "pile-driving" full-back that ended up with the Baltimore Colts during the Johnny Unitas era.....I saw all his home-games played in Madison. He was a true All-American and a class-act. He died quite young....(55).

FYI: I was a fan of Lee Roy Jordan.....one of the best ever.

Marcus Dupree was a fantastic freshman that dominated the game. If he had stuck around long enough he would have probably been an all time favorite for me. But he was a quitter...

Agree GS about Dupree. The kid was a freak of nature with his size and speed.

Unfortunately, Dupree was a head case...very immature.

Needed a "check up from the neck up."

undersized pitt ILB from late 80's ... had 3 straight 100 tackle seasons and was all american. played in nfl with steelers as a backup and is now their LB coach.

never seen a kid so skinny (might have been 200 lb max in college) dominate that position since lambert did it but lambert was much taller. found a pic of him from his pitt days....
