Donovan is a football-playing hero.He is the one that I would like next to me in the foxhole.Remember, Donovan played with a broken leg at the end of last year. He is still recovering from playing with a broken leg. Thus he joins the pantheon of players who have played with a broken bone, a club so exclusive and courageous that you can count the members on the fingers of one hand.We all remember Jack Youngblood of the Rams, who almost led his team to victory in the Super Bowl but fell a little short.Maybe you can recall some others. To play in the NFL with a broken leg is beyond heroic, and I have not heard anybody bring this up in the Limbaugh-Mcnabb controversy. Mcnabb is a hero, Rush is a big,fat idiot,as Al Franken pointed out.

This is very easy.

Mcnabb is a great quarterback who simply hasnt won the superbowl. Ask all NFL teams if they could pick him up if they could and 95% would say yes.

The comment, though not the worst ever heard, was undeserved, and considering the source, its probably good that hes gone.

slim,

Show me a team that won a Super Bowl with a scrambling quarterback like McNabb or Vick. I'll save you the time. You can't find one.

49ers with Steve Young.

Also Brett Farvre and John Elway could get out of the pocket and improvise.

McNabb is one of the most overrated QB's in the NFL. Just because a QB is black doesn't mean we have to praise the guy. On the other hand just because a guy is black and can run is no reason to bash him. McNair is one of the better QB's in the league and Carter has impressed me at times. That being said Rush used poor judgement in bringing up racial issues 1 hour prior to the game. He should of said McNabb's overrated and left the race argument alone. Saturday and Sunday isn't the time to argue race issues.

That didnt take long did it?

Thank you mudbone.

Big Lou, the question you pose is rather unfair as you and I both well know that this QB scrambling deal has sprung in the last 10 years. Years ago, coaches would actually discourage this kind of initiative so you dont see it often. Nonetheless the game is changing and having a mobile QB nowadays is a big commodity.

Mudbone,

Those quarterbacks did not win a Super Bowl until they stopped scrambling and became passing quarterbacks.

slim,

I base everything on fact, not opinion. Scrambling quarterbacks do not win Super Bowls.

Brad Johnson
Tom Brady
Trent Dilfer
Kurt Warner
John Elway
John Elway
Brett Favre
Troy Aikman
Steve Young

Jeff Hostetler

Doug Williams
Phil Simms
Jim McMahon

Jim Plunkett

How many of those guys ran for over 300 yards during the regular season like McNair, Vick & McNabb did in 2002? Or Stewart & McNabb in 2001? Gannon & Culpepper in 2000? Should I keep going?

I agree

What went down was a double standard like always...Once a white person goes on the attack on a black person, everybody has to call the cops and government officials.. But if a black person does it, it is gone the next day.

Remember dusty baker and his comments about he would rather play black people in the heat than white people cause they "produce better".. LOL
oh please..

Double Standard- Always has been, Always will be whether millions agree or not...Certain things you just cant say to stay "Politicaly Correct"...

Everyday gambler, you are right! Remember when Isiah Thomas made those remarks about Larry Bird and how if he were black, he would not get any run? All this was swept under the table, and Isiah went on to become a head coach.

lOU, Elway was a scrambling QB. Hostetler was a scrambling QB. I see nothing which should correlate NOT winning a SB with a scrambling QB.

My take, some people are not as good after a huge payday. I think the broken boe point is relavent, but I know if they gave me those ungodly millions I'd relax a bit.

Uncle,

Elway ran for 218 yards in '97 and 98 yards in '98. Compare that to guys like Vick, who led his team in rushing last year with 663 yards, and McNair & McNabb, who rushed for 440 yards & 460 yards last year respectively. Super Bowls are won by quarterbacks who make big throws, not big runs.

I agree with this double standard. It is sad but it sorta has to be that way because. Because whites have always held the higher positions, the higher offices from the start. Do you think white people want to give them up just to be politically correct. This type of double standard that was said above needs to happen to avoid bringing out the real problems with race, politics, and control. The top people need for these things to exist to hold their ground.

McNabb won't win a superbowl until he has a supporting cast on offense. Bring in a good RB and a few decent receivers and see what happens. The starting receivers for the Birds would be 3rd and 4th guys on any other team.

Good athlete who will never lead a team to the superbowl, so may as well dump him and start with a new QB.

One would need to define scrambling qb...

Elways, Favre, McMahon always scrambled!!!!! but they scrambled to help them throw...

Vick, Young, McNabb scramble and then go run most of the time. They have natural instincts like a running back ...Favre and Elway didn't.

But Steve Young is the only scrambling Qb in my opinion that has won a superbowl who actually ran alot.

That being said a scrambling QB isn't so much a positive thing these days. You still have to make decisions and be able to know when to run because you don't have a play, when to throw it away, and when to run to give more time for your receivers to get open. To me, it hinders an offense.

McNabb lacks in decision making. He hasn't won a superbowl because of his ability to run.

Elway always ran for the big 3rd and 4th downs...but he almost never ran on 1st and 2nd down..he tried to stay and make a play behind the line somehow.

THE TITANS WERE IN THE SUPERBOWL AND ONE FOOT AWAY FROM WINNING IT WITH A SCRAMBLING QB.......AND ALTHOUGH THEY WOULDNT HAVE LED THEIR TEAM IN RUSHING, I WOULD SAY THAT PLUNKETT, ELWAY, MONTANA, AND STEVE YOUNG WOULD BE CONSIDERED "SCRAMBLERS" BECAUSE OF THEIR ALLUSIVENESS, AND ABILITY TO TUCK AND SCRAMBLE WHEN NEEDED....MAYBE NOT SO MUCH DESIGNED PLAYS, BUT THE "UNDESIGNED" ONES.....

Black QBs dont have what it takes to play in the NFL!

they are better runners than passers.

The fact is they are NOT inetelligent enough to play QB in the NFL!

I agree..alot of them were scramblers but rather make a play with their arm and used their legs to do that.
