(if this is the wrong forum for this I apologize in advance)
My son is an excellent athlete .....at 15 he is 6' 205lbs ..he is working towards being the first freshman at his school to letter in two sports in almost 15 years....my question is this....He is currently getting offers from a few high profile high schools in our area to transfer...he is at a 6A public high school now....At the school he is currently at he will get to start at QB in football and SS in baseball...at this public school he will be a featured player....from discussion with the coaches of the other schools it seems apparent he will start off at least in a lesser role and see less playing time....he's asked me if he should consider leaving or remain on the less talented team and get more "press"....I know I probably sound like an over-valuing douche bag dad but at 15 he has already received 2 letters offering formal visits to their D1 schools ( crazy IMHO to look at a kid who is a freshman.....that's another topic all together)
as a concerned parent I'm not sure what to tell him.....thoughts would be greatly appreciated

hes a freshman which makes him a 2000 and what? in baseball theres already dozens of 2019 graduating players with their ncaa commit..
its not too early at all.. if anything late baseball wise if you intend on him playing for major sec . or acc down south .. it is the norm if you are elite to
commit after freshman year... my advice is to push the envelope as much as you can, as it relates to baseball high school way less important than his national travel team. if he is elite and wants to make it need to be on one of the country elite travel teams. i will tell you what doesn't mean dick-squat, the status of him being a freshman lettering, stats , blah blah blah.. its all about training, competing on a national level if you want to be elite.

he is in an elite travel team....played in 12 Perfect Game tourneys last year....first person who has said we aren't moving too fast.....funny....I've been telling my wife that the travel team seems more important to me...after all...it was there playing for that team that the D1 schools saw him.....thankful for your response...

If he wants to accomplish something athletically, then you have to embrace competition. You have to accept challenges and succeed. Nothing is given to you in life, you have to work to achieve success

That's my advice

keep him where he is now. if he is top shelf, the NFL spots will find him no matter where he plays.

It is much easier these days for exposure, but having him at the best school definitely helps. Plus with a better school comes better training and education. Thinking about the next stage in life - having him receive the best education comes with being at a better school. Overall he will receive more. But I say talk it over with him and see what he thinks. Good luck to your son :103631605

okay let me put it to you this way... recruiters don't give two shits about what ya high school team did or what your stats were.. college and pro scouts only care about who you're playing for in the summer.. your decision athletically should be based on one thing above all and that is training.. which place is gonna allow or provide the best training possible , the time u spend in games is nothing compared too the time you will spend training.. which place provides the best atmosphere and resources for training.. i doubt that its public school.. and when you get advice from someone take note of where theyre from , in georgia and florida there are some amazing public school opportunities athletically,, totally different than up north where u are

an example of best atmosphere for training might be , lets say the kid has a former pro qb that does weekly individual instruction and training and his high school coach allows pretty much green light to use their facilities as needed, further he has a strength and sapped trainer seperate from school that you prefer.. private school likely will not be as accommodating.. these are just examples.

but maybe you donot have those type of resources and are relying on the school to provide.. private school gonna have way better resources than relying on your high school coach

Stick with baseball if he can, longer career and not as many injuries

keep him at public school, imo

Damn, that's one big boy for a 15 year old. How tall are you and his mom? Is he leaning more towards football or baseball in college?

I guess one thing to consider is if he really likes his current school, friends, coaches, etc. If he's happy where he's at I doubt anything is going to keep him getting a scholarship if he has the ability. I'd think if D1 coaches are already contacting him at 15 years old then getting a free college education is highly likely barring some unforeseen injury.

meaning go to the school where there's more competition and they're going to push him

I use to watch the electric company and sesame Street growing up, lol and as I got older, I would say to my friends and parents.. why do the kids on their all look ugly and half retarded? Lol. My parents would laugh... I continued to bring it up, and started making fun of them for being so ugly. My grandfather finally said to me.. "son, the reason those ugly bastards are on tv, is because they are the kids of the producers, and directors... so they don't have to be handsome or good at acting. " basically they won the sperm lotto.

As I grew up in N. Ga. Playing hoops, I was killing the seniors in my school.. I was 16 and could dunk, and a decent mid range shot.. anytime we went to Atlanta. To play games, (because I was 16 and my coach was a dik) I only got 2-6 mins of playing time. Lol but I averaged 5-8 points and a 2ish rebounds a game.
Never, not 1 time was I or anyone on our team approached for shit from any college..

I moved up to Topeka KS (at 16) to live with my mom, and start my Jr. Year at Topeka high.. I tried out for the bb team.. I introduced myself to the coach over the summer, and asked what I could work on to position myself for his team... I practiced, and prepared.. tryouts were 5 days then Monday morning they released roster... I handled the ball great, shot decent.. dunked on a starter.. lol..

I felt as if I cemented my spot..

The list was out.. the starting 5 were listed at top of page... (I was not) then the benchers, all seniors and juniors that didn't have the chops. Lol. I schooled them all hard. Then me. Lolol.. hahahaha... I remember laughing about it all day..
That evening, I did not go to practice... the next day that was the Big drama in the school.. this New white boy won a spot on the team (mostly black) and didn't show up for first day of practice!!! Lol

So one of the asst. Coaches found me and pulled me out of class and asked why I didn't come to practice..

I told him, I respected the coach to introduce myself, and work on things for the team, I schooled the existing players 5 days straight.. and he lists me as an alternate/bencher on his team?
That's when I decided I was done with basketball, and just didn't want to deal with politics of it. And I wanted to be a Student, and have a life..
Up until then I had played sports 365 days a year 5 years straight. And school.. I was done.

Forgive me for going on a huge rant, my point is to point out 2 things...

It's ALWAYS ABOUT WHO YOU KNOW AND WHO KNOWS YOU, as to the level of respect/disrespect you will receive.

I never had an advocate, and I was tired of fighting it all by myself, whatever you choose for your kid. Make it Fun.. and Network your balls off, and get him in front of the RIGHT people..

sports and growing up should be about fun, I absolutely concur and that's my typical message. along with getting an education

but in the context he asked the question, I think he was looking for the best path to take advantage of his son's athleticism, hence I answered accordingly
