My Review of my 1st time at TOT

Wed night my buddies and I dropped by ToT to catch the Van-Stl game and here is my review:

PROS:
- The hockey game was on
- They offer K&S beers
- Prices seemed on par with other Santa Ana/Escazu bars
- Menu looked like it had some tasty-sounding items on it

CONS:
- There was no sound for the game. I understand since they have multiple tvs beside each other, but I wish there was a solution.
- The service was "typical tico" - in other words, awful!

OTHER:
- We didn't try any food as we had already eaten earlier, so can't comment on it yet.

To get into more detail on the service:

Let me start by saying the place wasn't busy at all as we came rather late (about 10pm), so that's no excuse for poor/slow service.

We sat down, waited about 5-10 minutes before finally the waitress came over. We ordered our drinks, a pitcher of Dunkel to start and a juice for my non-drinking friend. The drinks came fairly quick, no complaints yet. We finished off the pitcher and the waitress was then no where to be seen for a good 15 minutes. Finally she appeared, grabbed our empty pitcher and glass and walked away quickly. Didn't ask if we wanted anything else or even pause for a second for us to ask her for more. We tried to wave her back over but she looked at us, walked by and then re-appeared with a bag and in different clothes. I guess getting ready to go home was more important than serving thirsty customers. We decided to just ask for the bill then and even that took another solid 15-20 minutes to get her attention and then ultimately the bill.

I hate to think what service would be like with that particular girl when it's busy times.

In reality this is nothing new. Outside of the gringos that work/own the place, the rest of the staff is far from spectacular. The long-haired fellow is quick to refill your drink and light your smoke if you sit at the bar, but the waitstaff is very slow. If you sit by the bathrooms and are out of their site you usually have to walk to the bar to get good service.

Just my honest opinion - this is nothing new for any joint in CR though. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY has service that is commendable.

Good point, I have been in that blind corner myself but I dont mind getting up to grab a beer or make an order since that is pretty much par for the course in CR, my only complaint was with the curly haired girl(which I am secretly in love with by the way), she gave me a little bit of attitude when I asked her to change the salad she served me with my sandwich for a potato salad because that is what my wife asked for. I can understand the confusion since they always ask "papas fritas o ensalada de papa", my girl said "ensalada" which of course she meant the potato salad since a salad was never given as an option. The mistake was fine, I dont really think it was anybody's fault per se, but dont fight with me about fixing the error please.

Also another thing that TOT should consider, as should all bar/restaurants in Escazu is putting that alchohol hand wash in the bathroom when the water goes out as it frequently does in that part of town.
