If the bill passes to stifle offshore books, then expect most states to legalize sports betting.

Would be a bonanza for many cash-strapped states.

nothing is going to happen... way too much money out there to be made.

1 of 2 things will happen...

1. large payoffs are made to the higher ups in WASH DC.

or

2. the U.S. takes control of the industry.

i would rather see things stay as is.

People going to bet no matter what the outcome,so I think the goverment should get involved and get all the tax money they are missing out on.

Would love to see a legal bookie shop in all states

No way this would ever happen.

I don't think you have a feel for how conservative most states are now. Gambling ranks right up there with drugs and prostitution in many peoples minds. Evils that must of course be stamped out once enough bible thumpers are elected into power.

Also, the sports leagues are against this, obviously would lead to game fixing.

Makes me want to puke, but that is the way things are heading.

You could say the same thing about marijuana. People are going to buy no matter what, it is not that harmful, so why not legalize it, tax it and fill the national coffers. It is not going to happen, not in my lifetime.

If Atlantic City can't get sports gambling and they already have gambling, what chance does any other state have of getting it? At least in New Jersey, there's a tremendous chance that the mob is squashing sports gambling.

50 years ago the mob ran the numbers business. Now the government does so and will maybe move into sports in another 50 years.

never happen, vegas won't allow it - as long as you have to go there or stay off shore they are happy - they have the money and influence to control the infamous uncle - always have even before they owned vegas

just a theory ---- WHAT IF

for example the Masterminds in vegas are actualy pushing Uncle Sam to threaten control because this 12 billion dollar industry is encroaching on their profits - then they step in and purchase the major operations offering the Uncle a pitiful percentage while continuing and expanding the monopoly - the government has solved the legality issue (by doing the usual nothing) and leaving the only exception in nevada - Vegas is happy - We are happy because our passion will be smoother and unthreatened under the umbrella of the original masters of gambling

No, it can't happen, because, I'll say it again, if gambling was to become regulated(can't happen in your country), the big winner won't be offshore bookies. It will be Betfair. So Casinos won't gain anything by purchasing offshores if they have to face Betfair's competition.

betfair competes in a different market place - U.S regulation won't effect them (maybe 15%) only american citizens and central american based books who rely on american sports an american casino and poker business. That is the money that Vegas and our Uncle want to retain and get back. not the european market.
