The thing that made Rose so good was all those years of getting 200+ hits and his desire to do anything and play anywhere

Jman,

You made this thread, gave the General and myself the floor, and now you're butting in? Please refrain till the debate is over.

Thanks

General,

As far as the 'others' thing goes, no doubt about it. There are a few real assholes in the HOF. But they were voted in already. Cobb being one that comes directly to mind. But he didn't break the rules of the HOF or BB, as far as I know ( and I'm damn sure not an expert on Cobb )

How many names do we remember as hall of fame members anyway. If Rose is never reinstated, he will still be remembered way more so than alot of the less recalled names that are in there now who we forget about.

Rose will forever be remembered the best hitter in bases & that should lead to the hall of fame irregardless of his accused betting.

In actuality, not being voted in will probably make him even more famous. As far as I'm concerned he and Shoeless Joe Jackson are the two most deserving players not in the HOF... and both are being kept out by the stigma of gambling. I'm a firm believer in a person being held accountable for his actions. To not hold Rose accountable would be a slap in the face the HOF'ers that lived and played the game the right way. And don't get me wrong, I believe in human fraility. He had and still has a gambling problem. That should be obvious to anyone familiar with his history. But to continue to act like he's done nothing wrong is wrong in itself. Like I said earlier, if he would admit what others have said is true, then I could see a chance of him getting in. But to be perfectly honest, until he does that I don't think the voters will elect him in. I really don't.

Rose signed his agreement with Giamatti thinking he would be admitted to the Hall of Fame in a few years. When Giamatti died his successor Fay Vincent changed the rules so that Rose's eligibility would not be considered.

Break time. Got some things to tidy up. Good stuff Max.

General,

I've got run myself... enjoyed it and maybe we can continue it later.

Jman,

Open it up to the crowd. I'll be back later to answer all those questions of why I'm being such an asshole.

Johnny Cochran won it, using his infamous Wookie Defense.

"If Chewbaca doesn't make sense, then you must acquit. Why would an eight foot wookie live in Endor, surrounded by three foot tall ewoks. It does NOT make sense! If Chewbacca doesn't make sense to you, hen the defendant is innocent."

...
...

I admit to being stumped.

Pete should go in the hall of fame along with Shoeless Joe Jackson.

Hell, so should Charlie Brown as the least fearsome pitcher in history.

Pete was a man like many of us. He was a gambler. He was into things that he prob shouldnt have been in. Alot of us can relate. He is a good ol boy with a passion for the game though, like we do not see often these days. We need guys like him in the game of baseball.

He is common folk, which most of us can relate.

Sometimes it seems murderers get less of a sentence. This is 2004. What is not forgiveable?

The Hall of Fame is hurting for this and every fan that walks in the door, a very high percentage know it's missing something. Pete Rose

I mean times have changed. Things are more so forgiven in this day and age, almost 2004. No one can say this man has not served his time already. It's time for parole and reinstatement.

In the mock trial on ESPN, 8-4 was the verdict that he should be eligible and even 11 jurors felt he did wager on baseball, but still should be in the hall of fame.

MLB was considering allowing hime back on opening day 2003. It fell through, but they know the time is coming.
