I agree Doberman. Just curious, why did you rank Jason White #6? He has the same stats as last year.

He was overrated last year, and Peterson takes away some of his thunder. They will split votes, because it's hard to consider voting them 1-2.

He had his glory last year, and is more a product of his team's success than individually talented like Peterson is. He reminds me of Josh Heupel, if you can remember him.

I also strongly considered JaMario Thomas for what he has done for his team, stepping in after an injury and leading the country in rushing playing two less games than his competition. Strength of schedule is the only thing holding him back, but I think he'd be productive even if he was playing on a team without the North before it.

Thanks GD for your response. I think what will hurt White even though it should be irrelevant is the way he laid an egg in last years BCS Championship game. Not too many people know this but 1/3 of last years heisman votes were cast before the Big 12 Championship game. A game in which White played poorly and was also hurt in the game. This leads me to believe White will not get his 2nd heisman.

Chuck,

FWIW Leinart is basically even money at WSEX right now, and I can imagine that will be even shorter odds after his numbers from the ND game are considered.

Gotti,

precedent is there with Desmond Howard (and Tim Brown). However, both were return specialists that emphasized their spectacular runbacks during their Heisman run.
I'd think Edwards (or anyone for that matter) would have a VERY hard time winning strictly as a pass catcher because of the inherent QB/RB bias.

Leinart is your Heisman Winner

Any books offering odds on who will place 2nd in the heisman voting?

Hope everyone that thinks Matt Leinhart will win the Heisman Trophy is correct as I am currently holding a ticket from Oly at +500 that I made before the season began. Believe that Carroll kept Leinhart in late in the game against Notre Dame and used that late fake punt to give him a shot at throwing his 5th TD pass of the day the very next play also putting him over 400 yards on the day to impress the Heisman voters not the BCS voters. A lot of discussion down in Southern California about trying to assist Leinhart to win the trophy. Expect similiar approach this week against pass deficient UCLA. Not sure if the Trojans cover or not, but would surely bet that Leinhart puts up more good numbers. Meanwhile expect J. White and A. Peterson to be trying to do the same against Colorado. Think the main threat is White as just can't see the votes going to a freshman. Too far out of character for the old guard.

Very true in regard to giving the award to a freshman, dating all the way back to when Herschel Walker could have won the award, the old guard made Herschel wait....Good Luck Ted, it looks very good

IMO Herschel was the greatest college player of all time, easily could have won 3 in a row...
