Bobby Cox in my mind is the best regular season manager in the history of baseball, but that is not what this thread is about. With that being said, I am sick and tired of Cox sending Reitsma out time after time after time just to blow a hard earned win.

He is killing us!!!!!!! Nothing more demoralizing to a team than to constantly have the thought in the back of there mind that no matter how the first 8 go we always have to worry about the 9th inning.

BOBBY COX, if you are reading this, lol. Its not only time for you to pull Reitsma from the closers role, its time for him to go period!!!!!!!!

Dont send him to the minors. Cut him. He is not even worthy of pitching in Richmond. I have been a Braves fan my whole life. Reitsma has cost the Braves more games than any other player in my lifetime.

Time to cut ties Bobby, your running out of time.

By the way, I know everyone is going to say but the Braves won tonight and he got the save.

He got very lucky hanging 2 pitches. Even when he does get the job done its a fluke.

I am almost pulling for him to blow it everytime out so it will force Cox to make the move.

Well I have never liked Bobby Cox anyway, but i had a chance to play in a charity golf tournament in his group. I know that you are expecting me to say that "he was down to earth great guy," but really this guy was a real asshole!!

Maybe he was having a bad week, but he didnt want to discuss baseball or sports at all!! He was one of the WORST "celebrity players that I have ever seen or met in golf tournament!! Not real good at golf either!!

On another front, I would NEVER support a guy who had beaten his wife in the past! I mean this guy was close to being arrested on numerous occassions because of domestic abuse!! Not a stand up guy WHATSOEVER!! But then again, he doesnt have to be popular, he just has to win games!

Bobby Cox = Joe Torre

Great talent and big payrolls in weak divisions for years but those days are over for both managers.

This is unbelieveable I don't know if people don't like the Braves or what but I can't believe I just saw the words Bobby Cox and overrated. Braves have won the division what 11 times in a row. That is UNHEARD of in any other sport, especially with Free Agency. Braves payroll has been declining for the last 4-5 seasons once Ted Turner sold the ball club, yet they still keep winning the division with big spending teams like Philadelphia and the New York Mets in the division. Once again Atlanta lost Farnsworth in the offseason to the Yanks and Atlanta slashed payroll once again so the Cox is left with little alternative yet the Braves are only few games back of first place now. Bobby Cox is the elite Manager in baseball, yes we all hate Reitsma but until Atlanta trades for someone else they really have no other talent out there right now. The young kid they drafted to be the future closer Devine hasn't pitched up to expectations so far. Until Cox actually loses a division title I think it's absolutely absurd to even refer to this guy as overrated.

Winning a division title means nothing

Your just the best of your division and if your division sucks hard core then who cares.

Bobby Cox is the biggest choke manager ever with his horrible in game playoff decisions year after year. I just hope ATL somehow gets the WC so the Mets have a chance to play them because when you go against ATL in the playoffs its money time.

You make it sound like he has a plethora of options to use in the bullpen. Throwing Ray out in the 7th of a 5-1 game, and him giving up 2 runs, and later have Reitsma blow it doesn't make it ok to stop using Reitsma and bring in Ray to close, for example. Lastly, Cox can't "cut ties" with his closer, because he doesnt' have another one at the moment. Remlinger going to close games now? Cox going to become GM? It's on the GM to acquire the talent to win, it's on the manager to utilize the talent given accordingly to win.

I'm not a Braves fan and I don't really care except for the times I play them, but I agree with you. Had the Braves vs. Az the other night, the game the Braves took lead in top of ninth and Reitsma blew the game in bottom of 9th. I've seen BP pitchers with better stuff and much better control. This guy is a joke. On the other hand I now know that whenever I bet against the Braves I'v ealways got hope.

Bobby Cox = Tony LaRussa

Both are great managers in the regular season. But once they get into post season, well their records speak for themselfs.

When Gagne comes back and if he pitches well I am sure the Dodgers will be more than willing to give you that bum Baez.

who would you have close for the braves instead?

John Smotlz. He is much more valuable as the closer rather than a starter.

Not quite. There is no scenario where a top of the line starter is less valuable than a top of the line closer, unless you have a rotation as good as the the White Sox, and the Braves aren't in that neighborhood.

This is bullshit, and you couldn't find one person in MLB that agrees with it, except maybe George Steinbrenner. It's obviously not as good as winning a bunch of titles, but it's still pretty damn impressive. Not that Cox necessarily deserves all of the credit for that run, I would argue that Schuerholz and good fortune deserve more. On the other hand Johnny GM is completely responsible for the crappy closer situation, going back to the Danny Kolb debacle.

We disagree on this. However my opinion comes from many dollars lost on teams that have blown saves so your opinion is probably more fair and accurate. To me, Smoltz would be worth more to the Braves as the closer.

If you've had no criticism of "Booby Hatch" Cox for 16 years, then you must not watch the postseason. He is a stone cold lock for the Hall of Fame, but, as you alluded to, that's for the regular season. He is an AWFUL postseason manager, combining stupidity with stubborness. There are several reasons that the Braves have only one world championship on his watch-and in a strike shortened season at that-and Cox is DEFINITELY one of those reasons.

That's cool, I know it's been a frustrating year for alot of folks with all the 9th inning collapses.

The Braves beat the Mets in the playoffs a few years back didn't they? I guess you lost your ass. Chop said it best, the best regular season manager ever. How can you argue with 14 straight titles? Besides that, the Braves can't play the Mutts in the World Series. They are in the same division>
