I read today that fatness is fast approaching and will soon take over from tobacco as the #1 killer in the USA and that does not even include those who die from diebetes, which is largely caused by overeating and a sedentary lifestyle.

I need to lose some weight. I'm 258 lbs. I am 6"4 though, so I'm tall and that weight is not a ridiculous amount for me. But I want to get to 238 and maintain a weight around 235-240. I could go a little lower eventually, but for starters, 238 sounds good. I remember when I used to weigh that and I can hold 238 easily with my height and I am not fat then.

I've mostly kicked the pepsi habit ( 150 calories per can) and I'll give it up entirely now. I'll make the time to jog and try to eat right- as best I can do.

I'm thinking, if its OK, I'll update this thread twice a week until I hit the 238 goal. I really think that posting my current weight will motivate me to behave and excercise. I'll post honest numbers so the idea of having to post a higher number than the last update would be embarrassing. I think that posting here will really help motivate me.

Oh yeah, I'll also have to cut out or at least way down the beer intake

except during my upcoming trip to las vegas in a month. I will be drinking plenty then and theres no way around that. so if I can get to 238, gain a few pounds during my vegas trips ( drinking, sausage & eggs in the morning & buffets= + a few pounds) then lose it back when I get home, I can maintain a good weight for me from now on.

wish me luck

current weight=258

yup. . .no doubt. . .cut the soda with the sugar and get some type of excerise for 30-60 minutes like 3-4 times a week and just eat reasonable and you will be amazed. trust me. you dont have to go crazy cutting carbs either, you will need them to jog

Good luck Mr. Smith.

Did anyone see the Discovery Health Channel Diet Police show last night? This guy was like 370lbs., had a 60inch waist, smoked, and was in horrible shape. In 12 weeks, with their diet and exercise help, he had dropped 8 inches off his waist. The guy was still large, but he made a big improvement by just watching his diet and exercising.

i heard if you eat an early dinner (before 6:00) and eat nothing afterwards...this makes a huge difference. obviously portion size (total calories) is very important. but, for some reason eating late at night is a bigtime no-no.

I think its a big positive to write down your goals and keep daily updates...I think its a great way to motivate...just do a small % each day and do a little more everyday, it will add up....Good Luck

blue: usually after six in the evening your body supposedly slows down and metabolizes less.
quote:
loose 40pounds by having 5hours of sex daily

Newbie666 that is very funny but not entirely nonsense. having sex does burn a lot of calories.

Good luck Mr. Smith and I hope you acheive your goal. Only you can take charge of your life.

blue is right about night eating

eat your carbs at breakfast and lunch time

it gives you the whole day to burn those carbs

at 6pm eat mainly protein for dinner and very low carbs

if your hungry at night time at 9-10pm eat a little steak/chicken breast but no big carbs after luchtime 2pm

no sodas/too much bread as carbs

It's odd that you posted this today because three weeks ago I weighed in at 225 Lbs and I said i had to start losing weight. So instead of stuffing food into my hole at lunch I decided I was going to walk 4-4.5 miles a day. I walk about 45 minutes outside at work during lunch then during the 7 o'clock ESPN basketball game I pound out another 30 minutes on the treadmill. I eat very lite during the day, a can of tuna and some no fat cottage cheese and then as much as I want for dinner. I weighed in this morning at 209. I can't believe what walking can do for you. I am full of energy during the entire day and sleep like a baby at night. My lower back problems have all but dissapeared. My goal is 185. It can be done, I am proof.

good luck MR Smith...but I was also reading this today**** "I read today that fatness is fast approaching and will soon take over from tobacco as the #1 killer in the USA and that does not even include those who die from diebetes, which is largely caused by overeating and a sedentary lifestyle."***

they are saying that obese people are more at risk then previously thought for a heart attack...get out and exercise , eat things in moderation...is the way to go

I eat small meals so I eat kind of often. I need a snack around 10-11 PM so I think cutting out carbs then would be helpful to me.

I'm eating a nice dinner now of a big glass of water and a can of progresso beef & vegetable soup

And I do need to cut wight to guard against hart attack later on my moms dad was tall like me and he dropped dead of a heart attack at 45. He was not fat, but high cholesterol runs in that side of the family, which is a genetic killer.

I have it too. need to get started on lipitor again soon. I am not in danger yet, only 33 yrs old. I had some heart tests done a year ago and a stress test, everything is OK so far. losing weight would be the one thing I need to accomplish. I don't smoke.

I was at 252 lbs last January.. I am now sitting at a solid 192 lbs. The reason I say solid is because I have turned all my old fat to muscle. It's tough now to squeeze any fat on me. I am at the gym 7 days a week. I run on the treadmill for 1 hr per day, 4 days a week, which is equivalent to 20-25 miles per week. I do a lot of weights, which burns a lot of fat. I went from benching 152 lbs max just 2 months ago, to 292 lbs max now on the bench (no joke) because of the kind of foods I am eating (only healthy stuff) Because of the exercise, I am now in the best shape of my life, including when I was 24. I eat a very lot, but I eat the right things, and I still lose weight. Here is what I eat and what I avoid. BTW, I tried the Atkins diet and lost a lot, but I got so sick of it and I was always gaining the weight back immediately. Plus, I was weak because of the lack of carbs and lack of balanced diet. Now I eat from everything. And the reason why I eat a lot and still lose is because of the 22 miles a week on the treadmill that I run. It really allows you to be able to eat whatever you want and not gain any weight because the metabolism is very fast, so if you exercise a lot and not eat as much as I, you will really really lose the weight fast. I am only maintaining now.

I eat cereals everyday (1% milk only) I've cut the fat almost completely off my diet. This is very key. I eat low fat yogurt, I try to avoid sugar, pop, chips, fast foods, and red meat. I only eat lean meats, whole wheat bread, pasta, and I find I have so much energy at the gym now and have built up some strength and feel no longer tired from the running and heavy lifting, unlike before when I was on the Atkins. The Atkins is full of shit and dangerous. Stick to eating a healthy diet, because you do need your protein and your carbs. I have dropped a lot of weight this way, I sleep better and feel more energetic when I exercise. I used to have NO energy when on Atkins. Now I am so full of energy, that when I go up the stairs, I am taking the steps 3 at a time instead of 1. Also, don't eat 4 hrs before you sleep. Exercise is very key. If you exercise often and stay away from bad foods you will lose a ton. Also, don't ever eat till you are stuffed, this is very bad and slows the metabolism and you don't lose weight. Eat till you are comfortable. And try to eat 7 small meals a day, rather than 3 big heavy ones. If you do this, guaranteed you lose the weight. Your metabolism will be flying if you eat lots of small meals instead of 3 big ones. Try it and good luck Mr Smith..

Chest has always been my strong point. I cannot curl, as I have weak arms.. I cannot do legs, as my legs are not strong. BUT.... for some reason, bench is something I have loved and dominated all my life. I swear to GOD, in just 1.5 months, I went up from 152 lb max, to 292 lbs now. But I just do it once.. Bench is just something I have always loved doing. I am only 5'9.. But the reason I think that I went up so much is because I do 1400 push ups a week (200 a day) and I NEVER miss a day. Maybe it's the push ups that have helped me, I don't know. Could it be? I have NEVER taken any roids, creatine or any powder in my life. I just love that bench so much.. What about you bobby, do you train with weights?
