Don't miss out on this freebie!

Took a few days off betting, used the cash from my $5000 winning wagers and used it wisely on some baby stuff and couldn't be happier to announce that my second child was born on Tuesday, May 19 and she is amazing. I had the horror of watching my Jays get swept by the Red Sox while in the hospital and now that I am finally out they better get their shit together heading into this inter-league play because both the Yankees and Red Sox are right on their asses. My record on 5k wagers is 7-2 and I am up some big money since I started playing 1-2 games per day and making all my wagers of the large variety like this one.

So inter-league play has arrived and that changes a lot in baseball. This is when teams either sink (like my Blue Jays are on the verge of doing with all this pressure) or they shine. American League teams playing at NL stadiums are all going to be minus one hitter which can affect a lot more teams than others. That also somehow helps teams with starting pitching because they virtually get a free out. I had to watch the Boston Red Sox demolish my Toronto Blue Jays the last three nights and let me tell you I was not happy about it. I don't think it was the youth movement for the Jays that was the problem it was more that the offense didn't show up for the game and if you don't show up against the Sox, they are almost always going to beat you. Believe me it makes a difference when Kevin Youkilis is in the lineup for Boston. The Sox are now 3-0 since his return (all three against the Jays) and they sure as heck need him tonight. Based on Dice-K giving us at least 5-6 innings tonight and based on his recent re-hab stint, things are going too well for me to pass on:

Boston Red Sox ML -104

How can you argue with this? The Mets come into this series struggling big time having lost four straight games and having lost some of them in brutal fashion. I would be the first one to say that the best way to bust out of a bad streak would be to throw your ace out on the mound but it did not work for the Giants with Lincecum last night, it does not always work with Santana who has lost some games this season and it probably won't work against a Red Sox team that is all of a sudden catching fire and smelling blood in the AL East Race (we aren't even in June right now). So seeing how the Mets have lost four straight they would be the obvious choice in this virtual pk of a line for the game but that's not the case for me. Everyone seems to be concerned with the way Dice K is going to pitch tonight since being on the DL for than a month but I am not concerned at all because a) he has been good in Inter-League play and b) he was very good in on the "AAA" Pawtucket team in three rehab starts. Don't believe me:

Dice K 3 Rehab Starts in 'AAA': 0-1, 11.2 IP's, 1.54 ERA, 1.20 WHIP

That's more than good enough for me to have all the reason in the world to believe that he is ready to start tonight against a Mets offense that is batting .229 versus righties in their last 5 games. Speaking of bad batting, Dice K has been on fire in Inter-League play the last two season and apart from one bad start, he is a sample of some of the games he has started at home against teams from the National League:

May 17, 2008: 5-3 win over Milwaukee, 6.2 IP's, 0 ER's
Jun 16, 2007: 1-0 win over San Francisco, 7.0 IP's, 0 ER's
May 19, 2007: 13-3 win over Atlanta, 8.0 IP's, 3 ER's

The only team to knock him around was St. Louis and that was the last time he started at home against an NL team so believe me when I say that he is going to remember that game and he is going to want to have a strong outing tonight no matter what. This is a huge game for both teams because the Mets are looking to bust out of a slump while the Red Sox are looking to catch the AL East leading Toronto Blue Jays as they sit only half a game back of the Division lead. What also needs to be pointed out in this game is the fact that the Mets are just not the same against right-handed starters and I would never back them unless they were facing a lefty. Carlos Beltran and David Wright are good against just about anyone they face including righties but the same cannot be said for the rest of the New York Mets starters who have been built to knock around lefties.

Jose Reyes bats only .248 versus righties
Daniel Murphy bats only .255 versus righties
Luis Castillo bats only .269 versus righties
Ramon Castro bats only .269 versus righties
Omir Santos bats only .229 versus righties
Gary Sheffield bats only .159 versus righties
Brian Schneider bats only .176 versus righties

By now you get the point that the Mets are not made out to knock around righties and with one of the best in the game going up on the mound for the Red Sox tonight, I just don't see how this team is going to snap out of this hitting slump they are in against righties and against everyone in general. Getting guys on base has not been the issue but scoring runs and cashing in those runners has been a disaster for the Mets in their recent slide that could hit five games tonight. The only reason anyone would be betting on the Mets tonight would be because of Johan Santana. Well do some fuckin research please because the last time I checked Santana had not pitched all that well in Inter-League play, any batter who has been batting in the AL for more than two years has seen Santana more than enough times and Santana has never pitched well in this ballpark and I just don't see why that would change tonight.

Johan Santana's career record at Fenway Park

3 career starts
1-3 career record
15.2 innings pitched
6.89 ERA
1.85 WHIP
.328 Red Sox batting average

Also consider that Boston is hitting .309 versus left handed pitchers their last 10 games while they are hitting only .237 against right handed pitchers in those very same games. Dustin Pedroia bats .400 career versus Santana, Jason Bay bats .400 career versus Santana and Jason Varitek bats .444 career versus Santana. Guys like Youkilis, Ortiz, JD Drew and Jason Bay all have bad career numbers versus the Mets ace but that doesnt concern me because I think with the way the Mets are batting right now, it won't take much for the Red Sox to win this game and shut the door. I had heavily criticized the Red Sox bullpen earlier this season because they did get jobbed a few times here and there but they now have one of the best bullpens in Major League Baseball and that could be all they need once the starters are gone tonight. What you also need to know about betting on Boston tonight is:

  • The Red Sox bullpen has an ERA of 1.00 in their last 10 games

  • Jose Reyes, Carlos Delgago, Alex Cora and Brian Schneider are all out for the Mets tonight.

  • Boston is a whopping 26-5 in their last 31 games versus NL East opponents.

  • Boston is 9-2 in their last 11 games versus left-handed starters.

  • Boston has won 43 of their last 55 inter-league home games.

  • Boston is 7-0 the last seven times Dice K starts on a Friday

  • Boston is 5-1 in Dice K's last six inter-league starts

  • Boston has won 24 of Dice K's last 33 home starts

Okay I'm done for now because there could not be a better wager than the Red Sox in tonight's game. We all know this is going to be a low-scoring game but I don't want to touch the UNDER just in case all hell breaks lose and because I know it could be close. Whenever games look like they are going to be this low-scoring, something goes down and we always get screwed. The way Boston has momentum coming into this game however is one of the big reason I am on them tonight. Don't hesitate here guys because the Mets lineup is hurting, they suck against right handed pitchers, Santana will not have the support he needs to beat one of the best teams in baseball and the Red Sox are picking up serious steam tonight and losing is not an option. Dice K is more than ready to make his return and win his first game of the season after getting rocked in his two starts in 2009 and the oddsmakers in Vegas just gave us another present.

Drop a bomb!

Congrats on the newborn. Just had our first last month.

May ride the Red Sox with you.

Mets have one batter in tonight's lineup with more than three taters.
No Reyes, no Del Gado, a second baseman who can't hit, ditto for the catcher, Mets are in a disarray, to say the least.

Santana better male pretend he's Bob Gibson for just one night, because he's going to need one of those 1968 vintage Gibson 1-0 jobbers.

Sox is the play.

BILLHILL correctly notes above...Joey Reyes is out for a month or more and that's what gets the NYM lineup going.

I confess I'm IN with ya on this one....Going to parlay with JACKAL's PHI/NYY Over 11

Best to us all for a good night at the ballparks

BTW, MISTAFLAVA I am pretty sure that legally you have the right to change your daughter's name for a week after she's born.

So if all goes well tonight, could be a good omen for you to rename her DiceKatie

Sure, your wife would probably object.

But just tell her, "Honey, you can name the next one. And btw, here's five grand. Go buy yourself something purty"

That last bit works extra good if you use the SlingBlade voice.
