It was my last night in CR, and i was excited to enjoy a few cocktails with some of the most prominent bookmakers in the industry including Hollywood, Rio, All world, and several others. We sat down to a couple bottles of wine and then I ordered the goat cheese salad. I ate a few bites, and I really enjoyed it. I even shared it with my boyfriend telling him how good it was. I went to cut one more bite for myself and what did I see...A live spider the size of a golf ball that scared us more than the Texas Chainsaw massacre. I am not bullshitting when I say this sent me into panic. What ensued really shocked me even more. All of the waiters saw the cadillac sized spider, and when the check came, they comped nothing. Zero. Nada. If I owned a restaurant, I would have comped the whole meal. They comped the 1/3 eaten salad, and that´s it. I went to a lot of great dinners here, but this is one place i will never go to again. Great view, but I will pass on the spiders. The really sick thing is that when I saw the spider, he wasn´t moving well. I am pretty sure that I ate at least 2 or 3 of his legs. This was absolutely horrific. Anyone who thinks i may be embellishing, feel free to ask anyone from any of the books i mentioned above. This was the worst experience of my life. I hope this never happens to anyone else. My advice...pass on the view and avoid the insects.

It has been reported that the average human being has consumed 11 spiders during sleep by the time they are sixty.

I would not let it bother you.

Spiders are some of the finest creatures to grace this planet.

I needed you guys at the table to help me with my panic. You obviously have a good attitude. Sorry I am not used to the Fear Factor lifestyle.

Fish: I seem to recall about 8 a year is average, something like that. Remember a spider can be very small.

Eliva, that whole country is a nightmare. Costa Rica is basically shut down by a nationwide strike for the third day as I post this. Nice spider story, btw. That sounds really creapy. That's the quality you can expect down there.

Elvira,

I would like to start off by saying how sorry I am that you had to deal with the nightmare of finding a spider in your salad when you were eating dinner out at one of the most romantic restaurants that Costa Rica has to offer...

However, knowing all the bookmakers who you were eating with very well, I can honestly say that I have also dined with each and everyone of them that you did.

It would not surprise me in the least if ONE or MORE of the BOOKMAKERS plotted together and put that spider there for 2 reasons:

1- IN ORDER TO SCARE THE CRAP OUT OF YOU!!!
2- IN ORDER TO GET THE DINNER COMPED!!!!

I am shocked that you could not figure this out by yourself, but I am 99% sure, that this was their intentions...

Mental note. If ever appearing on Fear Factor or Amazing Race, do every thing humanly possible to avoid Elvira and Scarlet as partners.

Seriously, Elvira, you have lived a truly charmed life if what you described is a "nightmare".

Scarlett,

As much as I would love to tell you we were joking, I cannot lie young lady. Those are facts.

I don't care to think about it either.

I feel your pain Elvira. I have also had a questionable experience there myself. While eating soup there I pulled out something that resembled a finger nail clipping. Although I couldn't be 100% sure that it was a piece of plastic I dismissed the whole incident. I will say that I have eaten there a few times since and have never had a problem. Now with you saying you found a spider it makes me think that it definitely was a finger nail. I will probably still eat there though unlike Cerruti's where I have never went back to after finding a piece of glass in my Salmon.

You are right though, the restaurants down here do not comp anything regardless of what you show them.

another thing to now about resturants is if you send back your food because they screwed up your order lot of times the chef will spit in your food. And if its busy they drop the food on the floor they will still serve it to you. Nothing like eating at home.

My mom always said exactly that. She was always apprehensive to eat at restaurants because a lot of them are extremely unsanitary. I have to believe the standards are even lower in 3rd world countries.
