well a few years back while in college I applied to work at walmart in its electronic department, but was turned down for a job do to a background check in which i had plead no contest to stealing an empty gas can out of a pickup truck when i was drunk after a tailgate.

apparently a group of people got together and sued walmart for their background and discrimination acts from information received through these background checks.

well 2+ years later today I received a check in the mail for my settlement of a whooping $25.50. I think I shall go to walmart and buy a dvd or 2.

Go steal a DVD and if you get caught, tell everyone you were drunk...again. :toast:

that defense is not as good as one might hope, i got 2 days in jail with 28 days suspended, 1 year probation, $350 in fines, and I had to go to an alcohol/drug class.

Don't put the money back into the evil empire. Buy the DVDs somewhere else, and you'll be satisfied to know that they footed the bill.

i hate walmart, yet do find myself going there sometimes. Generally it's if i need something and it's really late and the other stores around me are closed.

Their hiring practices have always puzzled me, cause i applied there years ago for a 3rd shift stock position and i thought i was trying to get a high level government job. I twas just amazing the shit they wanted to know on the app and i had like 3 separate interviews and still didn't get the crappy job.
Yet whenever i'm at walmart i'm amazed at the quality of people that work there.

I agree, I deliver to walmart and they have some strange characters working there.

going to walmart here is like visiting a 3rd world country

It really is. I once saw a woman trying to return a perfectly good Snickers bar (along with about 20 other $5 or less items while I'm waiting in line).

Nonsense. A company can choose to not hire for most any reason they wish as long as it's not directly related to race, age, gender or creed.

However you managed to qualify as part of that class action, you definitely got over by snagging the $25 payoff.

Props

Now I'd suggest you buy a couple of good gas cans because you never know when some drunk jerk might rip off the ones you already own.

So The Children's Place can't choose not to hire a convicted child molester because of a previous conviction? Nonsense Barman.

Perhaps I worded it poorly in previous post.

Should have read, "A company is not limited to rejecting job applications for 'only felonies'" as was implied in Kidman's earlier quick post. They can pretty much reject a job application for any reason they wish, save for it specifically being due to race, gender, age or creed.

As for the convicted child molestor, I'm pretty sure he would be constrained from even applying for such a job in most U.S. jurisdictions.
