I've watched "The Real World" since Season 1 (yes, call me a f@g, but I love the drama), but this season they have taken it to a new low. There's not only the gratuitous gay guy and bi-chick, but here's a new one....a transexual he-she. WTF? :ohno: Trust me, their target demographic is not loser soon-to-be 40 year olds like me. It is teens, tweens, and early 20's. They are trying to desensitize them to this crap. It worked w/homosexuality, why not transexuality. If my soon to arrive daughter comes home in 18 years and tells me she is going to turn her uterus into a c0ck, I will put a bullet into my head, honest to G*d.:puppy:

I have an in-law who has a brother (now sister) that went the route of the transexual chop & tuck. The main problem is that the dude also had 2 kids and a (ex)wife. Now those kids are going to be beyond f'cked up for the rest of their lives. Talk about self-centered and selfish.

MTV makes this sh!t out to seem normal. Although there are people in the world like this, it does not make it normal human behavior. I'm not advocating taking their rights from them, but putting transexuals on a reality TV show to make it seem mainstream is wrong. It doesn't matter that if inside a dude is emotionally or psychologically a woman or vice versa, leave the jewels and hamhole as is.

Sorry for the intolerance, but I draw the line somewhere.

I agree. I have watched Real World for many years. I get teased a lot for being a 40 year old watching programming targeted to a much younger audience.

I agree to a tee. I also am above target demographic age RW fan...or was in past years, but MTV's attempt to increase ratings thru more over the top roommates and scenarios has left me shaking my head. It's not just the RW though...some of their shows like NEXT and others attempt to make some human behaviors that are NOT normal, appear to be mainstream. More girls are now "bisexual" just because it's cool from what they watch on tv, not because they have a genetic predisposition that way. And this is not done to address social issues, it is done to titillate and shock...having two girls (or guys) or sometimes 3 simultaneously making out -makes for good ratings. But now it has little shock value to many because they have made it appear as normal as any heterosexual couple. I AM IN NO WAY PREJUDICE against gay couples. I just think exploiting homosexual behavior and other devient behavior for the purpose of ratings desensitizes us all to things, and we become a less moral society overall. I would feel the same way if they were pushing the envelope showing a girl giving a bj on MTV. I'm not a prude by any means, but there are way more 14 and 15 year old girls openly making out with each other than there were in my day...and I doubt it has anything to do with higher percentage of gays in 2009 than there were in 1989. Even though I do admit to watching some of those shows, if I had kids, there is no way I would be letting any of my children watch almost anything on MTV. The only decent show may be Run's House.

I haven't seen any of this seasons's epidsodes but I have heard about them. I guess that scenario would depend on how it was presented. If they are doing it from an after school special type of perspective, perhaps I could see some value....but when things are glorified and slanted to be "cool," who knows...we might see a spike in gender change operations because a lot of young kids think that becoming a tranny is cool cuz they saw it on MTV. I remember when they played music videos.

I agree with both of you! Glad to hear the thought of normal people :103631605

Agree completely. My wife and I are expecting a daugter in April. I can guarantee you that MTV and certain other channels will be locked on our TV sets. Not to mention I will monitor her internet usage, giving her a little bit of room for trust to see if she crosses the line (plus I wouldn't want her signing up for the Rx and chatting w/her old man).

Congratulations! And good decision on the tv lock and computer monitoring..too many parents don't realize the effect the media has on their child's development of moral character.......yeah, definitely don't want her stumbling on the RR! It's bad enough for people my age! But I wasn't even able to watch the LOVE BOAT when I was growing up and think how tame that was by today's standards....

I would congratulate you but really are we supposed to congratulate people for doing what they are supposed to do?

Don't blame TV, blame the parents who don't care enough about their child's upbringing to lock out negative influences.

More parents should care, the way they are supposed to...

In order to bring in the New Age, they must destroy everything that is Old and familiar, like heterosexual relationships, monogamy, and marriage, which formed the backbone of our society...Dehumanize the public till they get to the point where they no longer recognize each other or themselves...and thus will no longer stand up for one another...

"Survivor"
"Big Brother"

Is it then mere coincidence that Women's Lib, long known to be sponsored by the CIA, was introduced around the same time, that television was introduced to the public? This weapon of mass destruction gave them the ability to speak down directly to your children without any interference from the Mother, who provided Wisdom and the Father who provided guidance...The Media of course originating from the word Medium....Alluding to the Middleman between the Elite and the Peasantry.....The Parents were to pay for the child, but would no longer have a say in raising it...

Destroy the family and society will collapse, as the family is the last vestige of the tribe....Then re-shape it in the form you wish....

There is No Country For Old Men...you see....None.

Well said.

And as a side note, do people wonder how 12% of the US population is setting the standard for pop culture? You being a black man Loren im sure see this as well. Maybe its different in Canada but here in the states, this is the case. The face of the entertainment industry is disproportionately black. Thus you have so many suburban whites kids idolizing a culture that not only isnt their own. Its also one that is broken and not sustainable on various levels at the current rate. And maybe im off the reservation here, but the black community was one that was pro family and strong up until the civil rights era and then we began to see much social engineering going on and that includes cointelpro amongst other various interventions all the way to the introduction of narcotics. So you have a people take them apart, screw them up, rebuild them with a false sense of achievement and success (only to be obtained for a small small minority of said minority) and then get the rest of the populous to admire and idolize them. Thus the entire population is being manipulated and put into easily maintained marketing segments.

You're a f@g

I believe that within the context of this here thread only, it's hard to argue with the above post

guys guys guys, i think you are overreacting a bit on stuff. yes tv might seem bad, but didnt you all grow up on it too? im only 18 and iv done a lot of stuff like i would say above 30-40% of highschoolers do (drinking, smoking pot, sex) but im still a fine in my opinion. im gonna be graduating high school with a 3.5 gpa and gonna go to a university. i am just a regular kid and kids who are gonna grow up f'd up are gonna do it with or without tv in their lives.

personally though what i've seen is, girls especially, if they come from a strict family and everything they always try to go too far, and are not street smart at all because they've been sheltered their whole life. not saying let your kid do anything but,
there has to be a balance i think.
