MSU mking the final will cost Michigan money

Think about it. Most people that went there are from this state. If Louiville would have won they would have just came up I75 for a few days. They would have to spend money to eat and a hotel room to sleep. Now with Spaty in the final 4 that won't happen.

Don't get me wrong Michiganders are very happy that they have made it this far.

Our economy for 1. When this was awarded to Detroit it was assumed that 4 teams would be coming to Detroit, now it is only 3 teams. So in the end that will cost the Michigan economy millions.

But if they made the Final Four any other year, the team and fans traveling would mean their money would be going into another state's economy. So if the school is going to go to a Final Four, doing so this year saves the state the most money

Michigan needs to make money, not save it. MSU fans will not be renting hotels or cars, or playing at the casinos three days straight. Louisville fans travel very well.

I think youre being a little bit short sighted here TRS.

1st off, with MSU going to the Final 4, MSU will get a bigger cut of the cash since they moving from the NCAA.

2nd off, state residents will now be spending money instead of hoarding it because of the economic conditions.

3rd, you know MSU alums are more likely to come off that cash since the bball team is doing well

4th, IMO, the states effect of losing money is negligible versus the impact of the locality (Detroit) making money is huge.

Yeah but you have to admit that of all of the remaining Final 4 teams left, it would be harder for the average resident of Michigan versus the other 3 teams resident to make that trip to lets say a San Antonio on a >1 week flight price and a 3 day hotel stay especially with the top employers in Michigan on the verge of bankruptcy.

But MSU fans flying into another stae and using what little money they have on hotel rooms and restaurants and rental cars and $6 bottles of water in those states (and then having far less money to spend at home) would be far worse

And really, like everyone else Michigan residents do need to be saving money. Not being in debt and having enough in a bank account to cover needs when things go bad is the best way to keep the economy running. Even low income people need food and clothes and shelter and electricity and a way to get to work. When wastefullness catched up with them and they start to struggle to even pay for those things is when the economy shuts down
