I left the Garden St. a few years back, but unless there's been a dramatic change, don't even THINK about living in Newark. It's relatively safe by day, but you can't be hanging around after sundown. Plenty of good spots in the area though. I suggest commuting by train. BTW, Newark is Shaq's birthplace.

Newark da bricks. I was born and raised in neighboring chilltown jersey city. Newark just like all urban cities got its plus's and minus's . Its the #1 car jacking city in the nation. Alot of the best parties happen in newark. Email me owenky@hotmail.com when you drop in. If you got the $$ I suggest living in downtown jersey city. bout 5 minutes by train into nyc and 15 minutes by train into newark. good luck
All I can say is don't.Working there is one thing,but why the hell you gonna live there?Live in Hoboken,or Cliffside and commute.

in jersey city run over 2k/mo. want to live somewhere nice..but don't want to pay more than
1500/mo. will be there for 3 years and then moving back to CA. will need to get a new car also...will just do a 3 yr lease..guess i shouldn't get something real nice..as it could get stolen....

Re,both nice areas.Hoboken was in the process of gentrification so may from some deals there.Cliffside nice area and near the ferry to NYC.
Hoboken can be as expensive as manhattan
in parts.better to look at jersey city,
or maybe try Union city/weehawken which is
right next to hoboken.
Better off getting an inexpensive car
as parking/insurance can be a nightmare.
why do you need a two bedroom apartment?
Union city is probably a square mile
in area and has a large cuban ex-pat
population.
If you can live a little bit farther
from new york city,you can try renting
a place in suburban middle class towns
like union or westfield,which are close
to newark.they would be cheaper options
along with more privacy,space if you
have a family issues..Perhaps its even possible
to rent a house.

Weehawken is pretty nice.
Okay, then your best looking at the suburbs
west of newark then,I wouldn't bother
with hoboken/jersey city.
also look at west orange,more upper middle
class suburb.One more that might interest
you is montclair.Montclair has a section with
absolutely massive Victorian homes
I believe there may be one's where you can
rent out a floor,which would be enough for
your needs i believe.
You might want to include springfield as well.
If your curious about any particularly town,
let me know.i may have an idea how if it
will suit you.

Montclair is a beautiful town but may be a little pricey.
Put it this way if you plan on living in Newark you better be packing some serious heat!

Newark is no place to be at night or during the day for that matter.If your going to work there.Look into getting a place in monmouth co.It's a great place to live,hardly any crime-the ocean[considered the north jersey shore]
