I'll be moving there in November and I'm looking at plenty of reasonably-priced apartments in which to live. As far as traffic goes, it can't be worse than the Bay Area, CA.

The whole point of this and most of my articles is simply be realistic if moving into Vegas. So many people move for the wrong reasons. I was 100% convinced my next move was out of Nevada, but a bunch of things happened at work and next thing you know I am heading back in. But at least I know exactly what I am getting into. But of course traffic is worse in other places and so is the cost. All relative to a degree, but just remember in many cases you get what you pay for. The housing increases are real and you can see it for yourself as the county website tells you every transaction that happened since 1999. Want to see Mike Tyson or Andre Agassi's houses, complete with prices paid, satellite pictures, and scanned copies of filed paperwork? Check it out online. The site told me I am paying 80% more than the guy I am buying the house from and he has held it for about 2 years.

Belch, be very aware about one thing with apartments. Every economist in town says apartment prices are about to go through the roof. Almost no new units are being built, while a good number of units are being taken off the market to be condo conversions. The net add of units could be near zero for a town with lots of new residents and a number of people priced out of the purchasing side of the equation. Of course Vegas is no threat to match Bay Area housing or rent prices, but what you see now won't be what you see in a mere 2 years from now. The town's real estate market is seriously messed up thanks to the federal government and a ton of speculation. That is why even with the crazy runup, I am taking my chances buying back in so at least I know my payment won't change over time.

For those that are in town or were in town, admit that there are a list of things that annoyed you that you never foresaw before moving. Not that it made it a net bad place to live, but that made it less than it could be. Of course every big city has some of those, but in my extensive living experiences all over the West, I think the town just has more than its share of annoyances.
