Roxygirl,

You started a very important thread and from what you described your Mother as, it appears to me that she passed on many of those same qualities to you...

I am very fortunate to still have my Mom alive. Without a doubt, she is the Apple of my Eye and the Rock who holds my World together when it sometimes feels like everything is about to shatter.

She is by far and away the STRONGEST woman I have ever met, as she survived the HOLOCAUST after being hid in an attack for 2 years and escaping to this country on a boat at Age 9. Her Daddy was not so fortunate as he was shot in the head three times by Nazis and killed while trying to escape from Hungary as my Mom had done...

She has given me the Courage that only a SPECIAL woman can instill in a man.

And as an only Son, I cherish every day remaining that I will be able to spend with her on this Earth...

Thanks again for bringing this topic to light,

thank YOU for sharing this with all of us shrink. theres deep impacting world history inside your family history that makes this very unique. this has always been the worst week to get thru for me but this and the rx has made it so much more tolerable. mothers day is so commercialised now theres no escaping it. my mom gave me gifts i keep discovering in myself all the time.a great woman with qualitys i hope ive inherited. a far more beautifull woman inside and out than i could ever hope to be.~RG

I happen to have the best mom of all time and I was just remembering a little story about her.

When I was 10 or 11, I was very close to my mom. But I remember one day she pulled me aside to tell me that soon I was going to be a teenager and I probably wasn't going to like her or want anything to do with her. She wanted me to know she would understand completely and I shouldn't feel bad about it.

At the time I didn't believe that was going to happen but I did become a teenager - and a troubled one at that - and of course her prediction that I would turn on her was 100% true. Despite my general bad attitude at the time, I'm sure I always felt some underlying guilt for how I was treating my mom, but I never forgot what she said and it was always (to this day) meaningful. She wanted me to always know I was loved no matter what. It was like she had thrown an emotional comfort blanket over me.

My mom, by the way, has always been a literal maker of blankets. My apartment is full of the afghans she has made for me, some of which are works of art - not that I treat them that way. Even my little cat has a little blanket that my mom made just for her. If I had to pick one symbol to represent my mom, it would be the warm, beautiful blanket.

Anyway I just wanted to say: here's to my mom!

Your stories are all inspiring and heart wretching at the same time. I am truly fortunate to still have my mother and almost did not get the opportunity to know her. I have over 10 years between my brother and 2 sisters and since it was not a planned pregnancy many around her suggested she have an abortion especially since she was already overwhelmed with 3 kids and a handicapped husband. Ultimately her faith and dedication to her family was a clincher. I know it was must have been very difficult for her to raise another child at that time of her life. I thank my mother for being a strong person who had to care for 4 kids and a handicapped husband (my father lost his sight in 1959).
She is truly a remarkable individual who has given much of her time and love to her family and community. I thank her for teaching me ethics and values which has help me become a good person who is loyal, trustworthy, can communicate and motivate while having respect for others. She loves to bring up old stories of events past to embarass me in the presence of friends and family, ultimately we all have a good chuckle at my expense. She calls me her teddybear and I am fortunate and thankful that I will get the opportunity on Sunday to call her to say her teddybear loves her very much.

I would have to say sticking to her uterus. Once fertilized I hung on for dear life hoping to grab some lining. Alas my father being the premature ejaculator he was pulled out early, almost ripping me from her womb. My mother legs spread with no pleasure in site took matters into her own hands. An early 70's dildo pushed me back in and I stuck to her wall like sh1t to a diaper.

Wow that brings me back! :hump:

Wow! I didn't know you had ancestry from Hungary! My mother was in the big square in '56 when the communists randomly fired into the crowd. One bullet missed her by about 6 inches and killed the guy next to her instantly. She emigrated to Canada shortly thereafter.

I guess our families were on opposite sides of the conflict but we both can appreciate the narrow escapes required for us to be born and that really helps put life in perspective!

>>>I do believe Hitler has been the most mischaracterized leader in the history of the world, and it is largely due to the unbelievable success of the Jews in controlling the world's media. My hat goes off to such an incredibly intelligent, creative and cohesive group (cohesive by instinct, not by conspiracy).
........
Hitler would have been happy to just oust the Soviets (and the territories they controlled) and ally himself with the Americans and the British. He respected American power and didn't want a confrontation with them. He only attacked weaker opponents whose barbaric ways were getting out of hand and he wanted evolution to continue as it has up to now, with the more intelligent and forward thinking types being successful, while crowding out the barbaric types and letting them reach an evolutionary dead end -- one that he (and I) feel is deserving.<<<

A nice quote from Darryl Parsons. Glad to hear that Shrink made it and didn't reach an evolutionary dead end. tulsa

My Mother Was A Drug Addict Her Entire Life. She Died Last Thanksgiving Of An Overdose. She Had No Life Insurance, No House, No Savings. Just The Clothes On Her Back. I Got Caught For 6 Dimes For The Funeral, Burial Etc. So Those Of You That Have Mothers Be Thankful And Show Them How Much You Love Them!

Unfortunately

No, I was not drunk nor do I believe that. Darryl Parsons responded to a very sincere post by The Shrink. The post I made, though I know innappropriate for this thread was a quote from Darryl Parsons in a thread I shared with him several weeks ago. I am disappointed that any would think for a moment it was my quote. Unfortunately, I am disappointed that it is from anyone and particularly Darryl Parsons. However, he replied to The Shrinks' touching post with a kind word that did not in the least jibe with his stated beliefs from the other thread. I am apalled. I am saddened. I cannot describe my angst. Please read the following thread from beginning to end to understand how disappointed I am. Then read your thread's post by Darryl, who is well spoken and articulate and with whom I am very disappointed.

Tulsa,

I stand by everything I said in the politics thread and in this one.

The evolutionary dead end I was referring to was the Soviets -- those barbaric animals who ordered the random shootings into the crowds that almost killed my mother.

I would never refer to the Jews as barbaric because they are anything but, nor did I ever say I agreed with what Hitler did to the Jews because I don't.

It just so happened that the Nazis and the Soviets were the two opposing sides for a while and I think it's only natural to root for the side that's not trying to kill you. Don't you agree?
