Speaking of Don Nelson brings to mind game 7 of the 69 NBA Finals.

With the aging Boston Celtics and rejuvinated by the addition of Wilt Chamberlain LA Lakers engaged in a fierce battle and tied at 3 games each game seven played in LA came down to the final minutes, when with a little more than a minute left, Jerry West knocked the ball loose on defense. Nelson picked it up at the Laker's free-throw line and threw it up. It hit the rim, rose up about 6 feet straight up, and dropped back through the hoop. After that the Lakers missed twice, then the Celtics committed an offensive foul and after a few meaningless free throws and a garbage layup by the Lakers at the buzzer it was over. The Celtics had hung on to win their 11th championship, 108-106. The difference was the freak shot by Nelson.

The series featured hall of famers Bill Russell and John Havlicek from Boston and Jerry West, Wilt Chamberlain and Elgin Baylor from the Lakers.

However it was the sneaky good and almost unable to jump Don Nelson that won the series for the Celts. The Lakers missed 19 free throws in the game which is really what did them in.

Bill Russell retired a few months later after leading the Celtics to their 11th. NBA Title in 13 years. The Bill Russell led Celtic dynasty was over. Don Nelson is #19.

wil.

Anyone who wants to see the Nelson Shot - click on link the play starts around 3:15 mark and gave the Celts a 105-102 lead.

My one friend (Who's a Knick fan) use to say this about Starks.....

That is also THE single most over rated dunk. Nice dunk, yes, but it isn't like he went over anyone. He went buy both of them and Jordan wasn't even close. Far inferior to the dunks that Jordan and Pippen had on Ewing.

Way to ruin my weekend Jake. I don't know what I hated worse, Starks on the Knicks or Starks on the Bulls (his time there is similar to Ben Wallace now).

Jeff Malone was a better player at his position and more underrated than Starks.

Connie Hawkins may be the most underrated player of all time.
