Calamari is one of my favorite apps ever! Especially in Alaska. I'd say potato skins or onion rings/blossoms.

Calamari is great if it is cooked right. Love the tentacles not the rings. It's also great on the bbq.

I love wings so they get a pass.

I agree with Raoul Duke above about calamari.
It can be very good, or not that great, depending on the place.
I also think calamari is the only seafood that makes sense as an appetizer and others are more fitting in meals only.

Other appetizers I've never really been big on understanding are loaded fries, because so many people are already getting fries or a baked potato with their meal.
Also mozzarella sticks...

Fruit and cheese plates. I can do that at home. Most restaurant don't make their own cheese. At least with mozzarella sticks they have to throw them in a frier.
