Problem with confiscating funds is where do they keep them.... would they be able to force a UK bank to turn them over? A costa rican bank?

I think protocol is to put a freeze on the funds of the alleged criminal organization and if they are found guilty in US Federal Court the international banking system will comply and turn over the "proceeds of crime" to the US Federal Government. Looks like shareholders are screwed.

IF that is the case, the UK will be forced to fight the United States.

Countries like England can not have the US telling them what companies based there can and can not do. This will not fly.

Well, if Shrink, Wil, Roberto, ect can't get these players paid, maybe the DOJ can for now on

zee - "Woody, if the guys are bad guys and it's proven, let them do their time. If it's about gambling tho, your country is way out of line."

To state the obvious, in case it's really necessary -

I am a USA citizen. I was born in the USA, to parents born in the USA.
I live in the USA.
But this is NOT my country.

There is a good reason why most of the world looks upon the USA as the world's largest primitive penal colony.
And a good reason why much of the world considers the USA the world's prime terrorist country.

It's an old saying that ...the more your stir something , the more it stinks. Yet we (yours truly included here, believe in free speech and For you that may not not know..... Ya can't yell fire in a crowded theater if there is none.) Ok. That's what my generation was taught. Today, I guess teachers are probably afraid to teach anything unlss it's on the book in front of them AND the school board or other ruling authority has given approval).
I have my own hang ups and they are as unique to me as yours are to you. We all live and let live in the USA and that's why we basically stay here last time I could figure it all out. But I grew up on a farm --poor and God Fearing and so forth. Today's definations don't fit much of anything where I come from. But I haven't been there in awhile. Maybe fear keeps me away. They don't like "outsiders", less they spend lots of money in their direction, which I suspect is the case with some areas of online gaming. What do I know. America is a Land of gamblers ---I think they prefer the (please excuse my spelling) entrenauprenaures. I think we all need to understand where the other fella is coming from --so we CAN ALL "just get along". This will never happen in a RICH nation like the US!! The poor were ignored throughout civilation. But you know as well as I do that the ROMAN EMPIRE fell and those in the US that ignore your freedoms know it as well. The difference is..they would rather you give your money to THEM. Don't let this happen!
Goodnight andGod Bless.

Misuse of the Internet to violate the law can ultimately only serve to harm legitimate businesses.

What kind of BS is this? How can a legitimate business be affected by internet gambling? They're grasping at straws here.

Wonder if Blair and "W" will discus this at the G-8? They probably have already and knew it was set up! What pricks!

Doubtful. Anti-internet gambling activity right now is more for domestic political reasons (read: "value votes") than it is about legitimate cross-border legal concerns. That Carruthers was arrested on US soil, rather than charged and extradited, says much about the degree of cooperation the US expected from the Brits on this.

Not to get on your case zee as everyone is over-reacting but, look at the title again. The charges are Racketeering, Conspiracy and Fraud.

They are being brought down by their criminal behaviour of theft and fraud and not online gambling.

Now I'm sure DOJ is only to happy to say “Illegal commercial gambling across state and international borders is a crime,” but that is not the core of the charges.

The core charge is the same as always, the RICO act.
