He has since been mostly forgiven by Red Sox fans, but at the height of Boston's hatred for him, his name couldn't be said in the city without various four-letter adjectives being used in the conversation.

If a team's fans feel like the team is wasting money on you and you don't seem like you're doing anything to improve, you're not going to be very popular.

Perhaps more than anything else, Bonds just never came off as a likable guy.

He might be one of the best fielding catchers of all time, but modern fans outside of St. Louis can't stand him.

Most fans can recognize what a great talent he was, but those same fans hate his guts.

Even though he was one of the most dominant relievers in his prime, his career quickly fell apart after his controversial comments regarding the ethnic and diverse population of New York City. If a team's fans feel like the team is wasting money on you and you don't seem like you're doing anything to improve, you're not going to be very popular.
