You're right...he drank all that alcohol voluntarily.

But when he was in trouble, face down and unresponsive, his buddies tried to hide the fact he was dying and didn't help him.
He should have gotten drunk and had a hangover, not die.

College kids drinking too much and getting in accidents that cost their lives does happen all over the U.S. on/near college campuses. In the town I live in right now, a college kid was drunk and fell off a bypass and died two weekends ago.

You're acting like a kid dying as a result of alcohol stupidity is some great revelation. It's not.

It happens daily across the U.S. Most of the time, the other people there are drunk too and just think their buddy is drunk and leave him be. This time, the kid died.
