By just offering the sport, they could draw many customers to their book that would otherwise never play with them.

Offering cricket could quite possibly be more lucrative to a sportsbook then some current promos that they offer.

I am confused???

Why would books catering to the US market want to offer cricket??

They would have no expertise in the sport, may need a special linesmaker and would have no current customers who would bet the sport (except when they offered a stale or off line).

If they wanted to recruit bettors from a different market I could see their reasoning. However the offshore books are set-up to cater to the US market and offering cricket can only be a loss maker IMO.

The Asian, for one, is a market that is very lucrative to some books.

Especially if your a book that offers a casino.

Yes but it would be very difficult to make an impact in these markets. Obviously you need to do far more than simply post some lines to get decent action.

Given that (as The General's article pointed out) most of these punters have access to Betfair and juice free wagering lines I wouldn't expect the market penetration to be very high at all.

Factor in money moving, language problems and currency issues and the problems multiply.

One of the crucial factors in setting sharp lines for cricket is getting accurate information on the current state of the pitch and how the pitch is likely to develop as the match progresses. Also accurate weather forecasting is required.

I think most American Sports catering offshore books would be better off sticking to what they know (and what they are good at).

Yeah, possibly.

Makes for good discussion anyways.

Thanks for your thoughts.

No disrespect, but offering Cricket to the US Market is a bad idea aso most Yanks dont have any idea about the game, it would create more problems that it would be worth!!
