Your Bonus Play for Monday, July 18, 2016 is in the baseball contest between the Texas Rangers and the Angels out West. Texas brings a top 10 offense into Anaheim, a good offensive park. The Over is 9-4-2 when the Rangers play Game 1 of a series, plus the team is on a 7-3-1 run over the total. Starter A.J. Griffin is off a 15-5 loss to Minnesota while LA starter Nick Tropeano has allowed 97 base runners in 66 innings. The Over is 6-2 in the Angels last 8 home games vs. a team with a winning road record.

Play Texas/LA Angels Over the total.

White Sox vs Mariners

5* MLB Free Pick Chicago White Sox

Two teams struggling to score runs since the All Star break will do battle at Safeco Field Monday night. The Chicago White Sox mustered just one run while getting swept by the Halos over the weekend while the Seattle Mariners totaled five while dropping two of three against Houston. I like the White Sox in this contest with their ace Chris Sale on the mound.

Sale (14-3 , 3.38 ERA) is coming off a pair of rough outings surrendering a total of 13 runs (12 earned) through 12 innings of work, but he has never lost to the Mariners in his career going 4-0 with a 2.66 ERA in seven games (five starts). Current Mariners are batting .218 over 87 at bats against the southpaw and Seattle is 1-5 in its last six when facing a left-handed starter.

Wade LeBlanc (1-0, 3.52 ERA) takes the ball for Seattle as he makes his fourth start of the year. He was roughed up for five runs (four earned) on six hits through 3 1/3 innings at Houston his last time out. White Sox are 4-1 in their last five games vs. a left-handed starter.

The White Sox are 5-2 in their last seven road games vs. a team with a winning home record and Chris Sale is a fantastic 7-1 with a 2.33 ERA in nine road starts this season while holding opponents to a .208 batting average. With two teams struggling at the plate, going with the stronger pitcher is the obvious move IMO.

Twins vs Tigers

Play - Detroit w/Boyd vs Nolasco

Edges - Tigers: Matt Boyd 3.86 ERA home as opposed to 8.50 ERA away this season. Twins: Ricky Nolasco 0-2 with 5.98 ERA last two team starts versus Detroit; and 1-7 team starts versus A.L. Central foes this season. With the Tigers having won the last six games in a row in this series, look for more of the same this evening. We recommend a 1* play on Detroit. Thank you and good luck as always.

5-Day Forecast
GAME: Baltimore Orioles (53-37) at New York Yankees (45-46)
DATE/TIME: Monday, July 18 - 7:05 PM EST
WHERE: Yankee Stadium, Bronx, New York
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The American League East-leading Baltimore Orioles look to bounce back from their first loss in five contests when they begin a four-game series against the host New York Yankees on Monday. Baltimore had won four in a row and six of seven before dropping a 5-2 decision Sunday at Tampa Bay to remain only two games ahead of Boston in the division.

J.J. Hardy is riding a 10-game hitting streak after registering his fifth two-hit performance during that stretch Sunday while Mark Trumbo, who leads the major leagues with 28 home runs, went 0-for-4 in the series finale against the Rays to end his hitting streak at 10 contests. New York salvaged the finale of its three-game weekend set against the Red Sox, posting a 3-1 triumph Sunday night as Starlin Castro and Austin Romine each drove in and scored a run during a three-run fourth inning. The Yankees are 1-2 on their 10-game homestand after winning three of four at AL Central-leading Cleveland to wrap up a 5-5 road trip prior to the All-Star break. Carlos Beltran was one of five Yankees with two hits Sunday as he improved to 9-for-27 over his last six games.

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, MASN (Baltimore), YES (New York)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Orioles RH Kevin Gausman (1-6, 4.15 ERA) vs. Yankees RH Ivan Nova (6-5, 5.18)

Gausman remains in search of his first road victory of the season after going 0-5 with a 5.25 ERA in his first nine starts away from home. The 25-year-old Colorado native allowed seven runs and 16 hits over 11 innings in the two outings — both on the road — since recording his lone win of the year on June 25 versus Tampa Bay. Gausman was moved back a day in the rotation in order to face New York, against which he is 3-2 with one complete game and a 2.22 ERA in 13 career meetings (seven starts).

Nova halted his four-start winless streak at Cleveland on July 7 despite yielding four runs and five hits — two homers — in 5 1/3 innings. The 29-year-old Dominican allowed just one run in each of his first three starts of the season but has struggled since, surrendering four or more runs in seven of his last nine turns. Nova has made 16 career appearances (15 starts) against Baltimore, going 7-4 with two complete games, one shutout and a 5.22 ERA.

WALK-OFFS

1. Orioles OF Hyun Soo Kim, who has not played since July 10 due to a strained right hamstring, may avoid a trip to the disabled list as he is expected to make the trip to New York.

2. New York 1B Mark Teixeira, whose season has been plagued by injury and poor hitting, received some good news as the CT scan taken on his left foot — off which he fouled a ball on Saturday — came back negative.

3. Baltimore leads the AL with 148 runs scored after the sixth inning.

Preview: Mets at Cubs

Weather information is currently unavailable. 5-Day Forecast
GAME: New York Mets (49-42) at Chicago Cubs (55-36)
DATE/TIME: Monday, July 18 - 7:05 PM EST
WHERE: Wrigley Field, Chicago, Illinois
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The New York Mets look to make another loud statement against the Chicago Cubs when the clubs open a three-game series at Wrigley Field on Monday. New York swept Chicago in last fall's National League Championship Series and again on June 30-July 3, erupting for 12 homers to outscore the opposition by a staggering 32-11 total in the most recent set.

Asdrubal Cabrera went deep on two occasions in the Mets' 10-2 romp over the Cubs on July 1 and also homered on Sunday as New York secured a series victory over Philadelphia with a 5-0 rout. James Loney also went deep on July 1 and had six hits, four RBIs and scored two runs in the series. While the Mets are coming off a dominating pitching performance by Jacob deGrom, the Cubs were on the wrong end of one as Cole Hamels helped Texas salvage the finale of their interleague series with a 4-1 victory on Sunday. Junior Baez had an RBI double to account for his fourth RBI during his last five games in which he's recorded a plate appearance.

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, ESPN, SNY (New York), WPWR (Chicago)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Mets LH Steven Matz (7-5, 3.38 ERA) vs. Cubs LH Jon Lester (9-4, 3.01)

Matz fell to 0-4 in his last eight starts despite yielding three runs on six hits in seven innings of a 3-2 setback to Washington on July 10. The 25-year-old was taken deep for the sixth time in five outings, with two coming at the hands of Chicago in a no-decision on June 30. Matz permitted three runs but also issued three walks in 5 1/3 innings against the Cubs.

Lester has answered a five-game winning streak by going 0-1 in his last four - with a horrific display against New York on July 3 serving as quite the black eye. The 32-year-old allowed a season-high eight runs on nine hits - including three homers - in a career-worst 1 1/3 innings of a 14-3 shellacking. Lester, however, enjoyed success against the Mets in his previous three outings, posting a 2-0 mark with a 2.50 ERA.

WALK-OFFS

1. Cubs 3B Kris Bryant struck out six times in the last two games against the Rangers and on five occasions in the previous series versus the Mets.

2. Chicago won all seven straight regular-season contests in 2015 before seeing the bottom fall out in the last eight encounters with New York.

3. The Mets recalled OF Michael Conforto from Triple-A Las Vegas shortly after Sunday's victory over Philadelphia.

DATE/TIME: Monday, July 18 - 7:05 PM EST
WHERE: Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Jose Fernandez has shown his All-Star form throughout a blistering stretch heading into the Midsummer Classic. The 23-year-old ace looks to continue his impressive display on Monday as the Miami Marlins open a four-game series at the Philadelphia Phillies, who were held to just one hit in their last outing.

Fernandez owns an 8-2 mark with a 1.71 ERA in his last 11 starts, and that includes a clunker when he was blitzed for nine runs (six earned) in 5 2/3 innings against Atlanta on July 2. Home Run Derby champion Giancarlo Stanton has gone deep on one occasion versus Philadelphia this season, but it's his only hit to go along with 12 strikeouts in 18 at-bats. While the Marlins won two of three versus St. Louis over the weekend to improve to 5-1 in their last six, the Phillies barely made a dent against New York Mets right-hander Jacob deGrom in a 5-0 setback on Sunday. All-Star Odubel Herrera went 1-for-12 in the series versus the Mets, but is 8-for-22 versus Miami this season.

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, FSN Florida (Miami), CSN Philadelphia

PITCHING MATCHUP: Marlins RH Jose Fernandez (11-4, 2.52 ERA) vs. Phillies RH Aaron Nola (5-8, 4.69)

Fernandez answered his rare clunker with a strong seven-inning outing versus Cincinnati on July 8, although his All-Star Game performance left a bit to be desired. The Cuban is striking out batters at an alarming rate with 107 coming in his last 11 starts (73 2/3 innings). Fernandez has split a pair of career decisions versus Philadelphia, but did not face the Phillies when the teams tangled in a pair of three-game series in May.

While Fernandez entered the All-Star break on a tear, Nola limped into it with a gaudy 0-4 mark and 13.50 ERA in his last five starts. The 23-year-old saw his most-recent scheduled start skipped in favor of getting his mind back on track after allowing 27 earned runs in his last 18 innings. "My body's healthy, I don't really think it's a mental break," Nola told the Philadelphia Inquirer. "Mentally, I feel fine. I just felt like the past month, I struggled."

WALK-OFFS

1. Miami LF Christian Yelich is 7-for-16 with four RBIs and two runs scored in his last four contests.

2. Phillies SS Freddy Galvis is just 1-for-11 in his last three contests after recording five straight multi-hit performances heading into the All-Star break.

3. Marlins OF Ichiro Suzuki resides six hits shy of 3,000 for his major-league career after a 3-for-4 effort on Sunday.

GAME: Minnesota Twins (33-58) at Detroit Tigers (48-44)
DATE/TIME: Monday, July 18 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Comerica Park, Detroit, Michigan
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The American League-worst Minnesota Twins have fared surprisingly well against some of the league's best teams this season, but the same cannot be said about their ability to win inside their own division. The Twins continue their quest for their first victory over the Tigers this year on Monday, when the AL Central rivals reconvene in Detroit for the opener of their three-game series.

Minnesota is a combined 10-11 against AL division leaders Baltimore (0-5), Cleveland (5-4) and Texas (5-2) but a dreadful 7-23 in the Central, including 2-19 versus Kansas City, Detroit and the Chicago White Sox. The Twins also have shown little ability to win on the road (AL-worst 13-29), which was illustrated when they last visited Detroit from May 16-18 and were outscored 23-13 during a three-game sweep. The Tigers also took out the brooms in their first set of meetings from April 29-May 1 in Minnesota as Victor Martinez went 9-for-13 with a homer, three RBIs and six runs scored. Despite their overall struggles, the Twins have won eight of 12 - including three of four on the road versus the Rangers leading into the All-Star break - while Detroit has won four of its last five at home.
TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, FSN North (Minnesota), FSN Detroit

PITCHING MATCHUP: Twins RH Ricky Nolasco (4-7, 5.22 ERA) vs. Tigers LH Matt Boyd (0-2, 5.77)
Nolasco stopped a three-start losing streak and posted his first victory since June 13 with a win in Texas on July 9 despite giving up four runs - three earned - and nine hits in six innings. The 33-year-old journeyman paced the Twins in starts (18) and innings (108 2/3) over the first half of the season and is riding a nine-game streak of working at least 5 2/3 frames. Nolasco surrendered five runs over 5 2/3 innings versus the Tigers in a no-decision on May 1 and is 2-2 with a 4.23 ERA in seven career starts against them.
Boyd is winless since notching his only big-league victory last August, but he bounced back from a pair of rocky starts in June to yield only one run and four hits while striking out six over five innings in a no-decision at Toronto on July 9. The former Blue Jays prospect, who is filling in for the injured Daniel Norris, had allowed 13 runs and 15 hits over eight frames prior to his last outing. Boyd did not factor in the decision in his only other start versus the Twins, giving up four runs - two earned - over six innings in September.

WALK-OFFS
1. Detroit CF Cameron Maybin is batting .429 at Comerica Park this season.
2. Minnesota rookie RF Max Kepler leads the majors with six home runs and 19 RBIs this month.
3. Tigers RF Mike Aviles, who is batting .210 with one home run and six RBIs in 119 at-bats this year, is 8-for-14 with a blast and four RBIs against Nolasco.

DATE/TIME: Monday, July 18 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Great American Ball Park, Cincinnati, Ohio
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Jay Bruce begins what could be his final week in a Cincinnati uniform when the Reds host the Atlanta Braves on Monday to open a three-game series. Bruce is one of the top targets as the Aug. 1 trade deadline approaches, and considering Cincinnati resides at the bottom of the National League Central, it is quite possible the right fielder’s 18 homers and 64 RBIs will be heading to a contender.

Even if Bruce is dealt, the Reds still will feature one of baseball’s top power-producing outfielders in left fielder Adam Duvall, who is tied for second in the NL with 23 homers. While the Reds earned a 1-0 victory over Milwaukee on Sunday when Billy Hamilton scored on a passed ball, Atlanta beat Colorado 1-0 on Chase d’Arnaud’s third hit of the game – a walkoff single in the bottom of the ninth. Braves third baseman Adonis Garcia collected two hits Tuesday and is hitting .382 in his past nine games after snapping a 2-for-27 skid. Atlanta center fielder Ender Inciarte is batting .363 during his current six-game hitting streak.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, FSN Southeast (Atlanta), FSN Ohio (Cincinnati)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Braves RH Matt Wisler (4-8, 4.47 ERA) vs. Reds LH Brandon Finnegan (4-7, 4.71)

Wisler has made strides in his first full season in Atlanta’s rotation, striking out almost a hitter more than a year ago (6.92 per nine innings vs. 5.94 in 2015) while showing more confidence in his slider and change-up. The 23-year-old beat the White Sox on July 8 despite allowing six runs on eight hits in five innings, but only gave up 10 earned runs with nine walks and 21 strikeouts in his previous four outings. That stretch started with a victory over the Reds on June 16, in which Wisler allowed two runs on eight hits with five strikeouts in 6 2/3 frames.

Finnegan has struggled with his control, averaging 4.7 walks per nine innings while posting a career-low strikeouts-to-walks ratio (1.38). He made one of his best starts of the season June 14 in Atlanta, holding the Braves to one run on four hits in six innings for the victory. Finnegan lost his next three outings, getting bombed for eight runs on five hits in only 2 1/3 innings against Washington on June 30, and benefited from ample run support to beat the Chicago Cubs on July 5 despite allowing five runs and four walks in five innings.

WALK-OFFS

1. Atlanta pitchers have uncorked a major-league high 52 wild pitches after finishing with 53 last season.

2. Cincinnati relievers have posted a 1.32 ERA in the past eight games, giving up four earned runs in 27 1/3 innings.

3. Braves 1B Freddie Freeman finished the series against Colorado 0-for-11 and struck out four times Sunday.

GAME: San Diego Padres (41-51) at St. Louis Cardinals (47-44)
DATE/TIME: Monday, July 18 - 8:15 PM EST
WHERE: Busch Stadium, St. Louis, Missouri
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

St. Louis Cardinals rookie Aledmys Diaz made quite the introduction to the San Diego Padres in April, going 9-for-11 with one home run and three RBIs to help his team take two of three at Petco Park. Diaz, who has reached base safely in 21 straight contests, will look for more of the same on Monday as the Cardinals continue their 10-game homestand by playing the opener of a four-game series against San Diego.

St. Louis' struggles at Busch Stadium have been prevalent throughout the season, as the club dropped two of three against Miami to fall to 20-28 at home. Matt Holliday batted cleanup for the first time in 2016 and homered among his three hits in Sunday's 6-3 setback, but he was just 1-for-5 with three strikeouts against San Diego earlier in the season. The Padres are coming off the high of their first sweep of the campaign following Sunday's 5-3 victory over San Francisco. Matt Kemp homered for the second straight contest but is just 3-for-15 lifetime versus Monday starter Mike Leake, who grew up in San Diego County.

TV: 8:15 p.m. ET, FSN San Diego, FSN Midwest (St. Louis)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Padres LH Christian Friedrich (4-5, 4.50 ERA) vs. Cardinals RH Mike Leake (6-7, 4.14)

Friedrich fell to 0-3 with a bloated 7.20 ERA in his last three starts after allowing three runs and seven hits in five innings of a 3-1 setback to the Los Angeles Dodgers on July 10. The 29-year-old, who has been taken deep six times in his last five outings, has been roughed up in five career appearances versus St. Louis. Friedrich has permitted eight runs and nine hits with five walks over seven frames in five career games against the Cardinals, with his lone start in those meetings coming with Colorado in 2012.

Leake snapped a three-game losing streak with a dominant outing on July 10, striking out a season-high 10 batters in seven innings of a 5-1 triumph at Milwaukee. The 28-year-old did not walk a batter for the second straight turn and fifth time in seven contests. Leake, who own a 1-2 career record versus San Diego, was fortunate to walk away with a no-decision against the Padres on April 24 after yielding five runs in as many frames.

WALK-OFFS

1. San Diego C Christian Bethancourt homered on Sunday and also went deep versus Leake on April 24.

2. St. Louis has recorded at least one homer in each of its last eight contests, but has only a 4-4 mark to show for it.

3. Padres 3B Yangervis Solarte has hit safely in three straight and 17 of his last 19 games.

Current Conditions - Kansas City

SUNNY 82 °F

GAME: Cleveland Indians (54-37) at Kansas City Royals (46-45)
DATE/TIME: Monday, July 18 - 8:15 PM EST
WHERE: Kauffman Stadium, Kansas City, Missouri
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Cleveland Indians have enjoyed a great deal of success inside the American League Central this season, although their stranglehold on the division took quite a hit the last time they met the Kansas City Royals. The Indians seek their first win in Kansas City in 2016 on Monday, when they continue a nine-game road trip with the first of three against the Royals.

Cleveland, which is 28-12 inside the Central, won six of the first seven meetings between the clubs - including a four-game sweep at home during a six-game winning streak to begin June - before Kansas City countered by sweeping a three-game set to wrap a nine-game home winning streak less than two weeks later. The Indians' demise in Kauffman Stadium briefly allowed the Royals to move into a tie atop the division, but a 14-game winning streak from June 17-July 1 enabled Cleveland to stretch its lead to as much as 7 1/2 games. Kansas City sits in third place - eight games behind the Indians - and likely is targeting this nine-game run at "The K" as a way to get back into the race. Kansas City owns the second-best home record in the majors at 29-13 but did itself no favors by losing two of three over the weekend in Detroit to begin the second half.
TV: 8:15 p.m. ET, SportsTime Ohio (Cleveland), FSN Kansas City

PITCHING MATCHUP: Indians RH Corey Kluber (9-8, 3.61 ERA) vs. Royals RH Edinson Volquez (8-8, 4.85)
Prior to making his first All-Star Game appearance, Kluber was masterful in his final pre-break start, allowing one run and five hits while striking out eight over as many innings to win for the fifth time in his last seven tries. The outing marked the third time in the former Cy Young Award winner's last four trips to the mound he worked at least eight frames and struck out at least seven. Kluber was tagged for eight runs - five earned - in a loss to the Royals on June 15, falling to 6-6 with a 3.45 ERA in 16 career starts against them.
Volquez posted his first win in four tries in a 5-3 victory on July 9 against Seattle, yielding three runs and six hits over six innings. The outing was a strong rebound for the 33-year-old, who was pounded for a career-high 12 runs - 11 earned - while recording only three outs against Houston in his previous home outing on June 24. Volquez is 1-2 with a 5.09 ERA in three starts versus the Indians this season, picking up the win after firing seven scoreless innings on June 13 in his only home turn against them.

WALK-OFFS
1. Cleveland's 3.42 road ERA is the best in the AL.
2. Kansas City is 14-2 at home against division rivals.
3. The Indians are only 5-7 since their 14-game winning streak but have won 10 of their last 13 away from Progressive Field.
