Wimbledon Betting Preview: “Men to Watch”
By Winafy Tennis

Novak Djokovic, last year’s Wimbledon champ, is the favorite here once again and deservedly so. The Serb ace is in blistering form and looks to capture his third title in five years at the All England Club.

Expert, Winafy Tennis, breaks down the men’s side by taking a look at the favorite, an underdog to watch and a live longshot for the 2015 Championships.
Note: Preview was written prior to the draw, which takes place Friday, June 26.

‘Favorite': Novak Djokovic (+150)
Djokovic has won two of the last four Wimbledon’s and the odds are he does it again here.
Despite his French Open final loss, Djokovic is in the midst of an amazing year (43-4 year to date) and if anything that loss should provide added motivation.

Wimbledon is obviously a place in which he thrives, and there aren’t many true threats. Federer is not what he was when he beat Novak here in 2012, or pushed Nole to five sets in last year’s final. Nadal is in a depleted state, Wawrinka is not his best on grass. Cilic isn’t in his best form either, and other up and comers don’t appear ready for the challenge of beating Djokovic in a best of five match at a Grand Slam.

There are a few others worth considering, but at the end of the day Djokovic is a deserved favorite and he most likely gets it done.

‘Underdog to watch': Andy Murray (+264)
This is a fairly obvious choice for underdog pick. We do wish the price was better though. Still we have high hopes for Murray at this year’s tournament. He’s been amassing some very strong form, as was evidenced during the Clay court season, his best yet.
Murray is 47-7 this year, and of course loves the grass. Like most players, his h2h with Djokovic is ugly, but as Murray’s Wimbledon championship run proved, anything is possible.

The draw will be key here. An easy, low mileage trip to the latter stages of the tournament would surely be a big help.

‘Longshot to watch': Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (+7435)
We believe this price represents some value on Tsonga. He obviously had a great French, and perhaps that’s a blip, but our aspiration is that his strong form continues.

It’s also important to note that Tsonga is a very solid grass court player, and probably doesn’t get the proper credit for that. He is 59-18 lifetime on the surface, and has had solid showings in past Wimbledon appearances. He lost last year to Djokovic in R16, to Murray in four in the 2012 semifinal when Andy won it all, and in the semis in 2011 to Djokovic in four close sets.

Tsonga has pushed Djokovic in more than a few Grand Slam encounters, and has good big match presence, mental fortitude. If he can gather momentum early in the draw, we could certainly see Tsonga going deep, making this a good ticket to hold, and possibly trade.

Wimbledon Betting Preview: “Women to Watch”

Expert Winafy Tennis take a look at the favorite, an underdog to watch and a pair of live long shots as the ladies of the lawn prepare to battle it out for the Ladies’ Singles championship.

Note: Preview was written prior to the draw, which takes place Friday, June 26.

‘Favorite': Serena Williams (+166)
Serena seems the presumptive favorite at every Grand Slam these days, and with good reason given her career exploits and continued solid form. And for perspective, Serena is 61-8 lifetime on grass which is quite amazing.
Still, she has been knocked out in the R32 and R16 the last two years, last winning in 2012. We agree she is the favorite, but for value, we simply have to look elsewhere.

‘Underdog to watch': Petra Kvitova (+576)
If not Serena, one might think to look to Sharapova, but we agree with oddsmakers that it’s defending champ Kvitova who is next most likely to lift the trophy.

Sharapova doesn’t appear to be in her best form, and remember, she is simply helpless vs Serena, who she may well need to defeat to win it all. We simply can’t get behind that concept.

On the other hand, Kvitova is in fine form, 39-11 in her last 50 matches (with a 14% ROI), off her best showing ever at the French. She is 37-12 all-time on grass and of course is the defending champion and has won Wimbledon twice.
She has lost both meetings vs Serena at Wimbledon, and the h2h is ugly (5-1 Serena), but Kvitova won most recently on the faster clay of Madrid.

Kvitova’s game is simply made for grass and indoor hard environments, and her solid form bodes well for this tournament.

‘Live Long-shots': Caroline Wozniacki (+3621), Karolina Pliskova (+3023)
When you think grass, you don’t think Wozniacki, but she has actually proven quite good on this surface, with a 33-15 all-time record, and she has reached the R16 four times at Wimbledon.

Wozniacki has never won a grand slam of course, but she’s seen her fair share of big matches including last year’s US Open final where she fell to Serena 6-3 6-3.

Wozniacki’s improved serve and rising form make us think she represents just a bit of long-shot value, especially if her draw is favorable.

Our second one to watch is Pliskova. She has quietly worked her way up the rankings, accumulating a 60-26 record over the last 12 months (19.5% ROI).

She has never made it past the second round at Wimbledon, but her game is well suited for grass, especially if her serve is on song.

With a favorable draw, we could definitely see Pliskova making a run. She could just as easily go out early, but if she gains some momentum, watch out.

MLB roundup: Dodgers' Greinke finally gets a win
By THE SPORTS XCHANGE

MIAMI -- Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Zack Greinke, who had gone 10 straight starts without a win even though he is leading the majors in ERA, beat the Miami Marlins 2-0 on Sunday at Marlins Park

Greinke (6-2), who had been 0-2 with eight no-decisions during his winless streak, has a 1.58 ERA after getting his first win since May 5.

On Sunday, he allowed four hits, one walk and no runs. Greinke left the game after 7 2/3 innings and 101 pitches despite having no one on base. Still, he allowed the minimum three batters in four of his seven complete innings, and he never allowed a Miami base-runner to get past second.

Los Angeles (43-34) took two out of three games in the series. The Dodgers got three hits and one RBI from first baseman Adrian Gonzalez and two hits and one RBI from second baseman Howie Kendrick.

Miami (31-46) dropped to a season-worst 15 games under .500.

Orioles 4, Indians 0 (Game 1)

BALTIMORE -- Jimmy Paredes and Manny Machado homered, Ubaldo Jimenez scattered four hits over a season-high eight innings and the Orioles beat the Cleveland in the first game of a split doubleheader.

The Orioles earned their 5,000th regular-season win since moving to Baltimore in 1954.

Jimenez dominated his former team, finishing with seven strikeouts. It was also the third time in 15 starts Jimenez (7-3) did not allow a walk.

Machado extended his hitting streak to nine games and got his career-high 15th home run for the Orioles, who have won nine of their past 12 games.

Blue Jays 3, Rangers 2

TORONTO -- Third baseman Josh Donaldson homered and right-hander Drew Hutchison struck out eight in 5 2/3 innings to lead Toronto.

Hutchison (8-1) allowed four hits, three walks and one unearned run to win his fifth consecutive decision as the Blue Jays took the rubber match of the three-game series.

Texas right-hander Chi Chi Gonzalez (2-3) allowed four hits, four walks and three runs in six innings. He struck out three in losing his third straight decision.

Astros 3, Yankees 1

HOUSTON -- Right-hander Collin McHugh pitched eight strong innings while rookie shortstop Carlos Correa doubled and scored twice as Houston salvaged a split of this four-game weekend series.

McHugh (9-3) won a third consecutive start by limiting the Yankees (41-35) to one run on two hits and two walks with eight strikeouts.

Correa was able to round the bases on a double and an error in the fourth. In the seventh, Correa doubled and scored on designated hitter Evan Gattis' triple.

Michael Pineda tossed a complete game but lost.

Mets 2, Reds 1; Mets 7, Reds 2

NEW YORK -- Steven Matz had a major league debut to remember Sunday afternoon, when the New York Mets left-hander threw 7 2/3 strong innings and tied franchise records for pitchers with three hits and four RBIs at the plate as he led his team to a 7-2 win over the Cincinnati Reds.

The Mets completed a sweep of the three-game series. Earlier Sunday, New York pulled out a 2-1, 13-inning win in the completion of a game suspended by rain Saturday.

Braves 2, Pirates 1

PITTSBURGH -- Atlanta's Alex Wood pitched 7 1/3 shutout innings and the Braves avoided a sweep.

Pittsburgh lost for the first time at home against a team from the National League East this season. The Pirates are now 11-1 in such games.

Right-hander Jason Grilli gave up a run in the ninth but still earned his 21st save.

Second baseman Jace Peterson hit a home run in the seventh for the Braves' second run.

Nationals 3, Phillies 2; Phillies 8, Nationals 5

PHILADELPHIA -- Philadelphia's bats opened up like they haven't too often this season, salvaging a split of a doubleheader with an win over Washington.

In the opening game of the afternoon, Washington got seven strong innings from starting pitcher Stephen Strasburg to hold on for a 3-2 win.

The Nationals couldn't get that same effort from Tanner Roark in the series finale.

Cesar Hernandez went 4-for-4 with a stolen base after going 2-for-4 with two steals in the first game; center fielder Odubel Herrera, who watched the opener from the bench, went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI. Maikel Franco, Darin Ruf and Cody Asche all had two hits apiece.

Tigers 5, White Sox 4

DETROIT -- James McCann drove an 0-2 pitch from Chicago reliever Zach Putnam over the left-field wall for his third home run of the year and second walk-off winner to give Detroit the victory.

The home run rewarded Detroit right-handed reliever Joakim Soria (3-0), who pitched a scoreless top of the ninth.

Putnam (1-3) had come in during the eighth to shut off a Tigers' four-run rally and got the first out of the ninth before McCann hit his game-winner. Designated hitter Victor Martinez tied the score with a three-run double in the eighth.

Red Sox 5, Rays 3

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- The Red Sox got to Tampa Bay ace Chris Archer, tagging him for three home runs.

The Red Sox (34-43) got solo home runs from third baseman Pablo Sandoval and left fielder Alejandro De Aza, then a two-run shot from designated hitter David Ortiz, helping them take two of three in the divisional series.

Archer (9-5) had allowed a total of seven earned runs in his previous six starts, giving him the AL's lowest ERA at 2.01 entering the game.

Diamondbacks 6, Padres 4

SAN DIEGO -- Homers by Welington Castillo, David Peralta and Jake Lamb powered Arizona to a win over San Diego at Petco Park.

Derek Norris hit two homers for the Padres, who got a game-opening blast from right fielder Matt Kemp.

All 10 runs scored on home runs.

Angels 3, Mariners 2 (10 innings)

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Kole Calhoun scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the 10th inning to give the Los Angeles Angels a win over Seattle at Angel Stadium.

Right-hander Trevor Gott received his first major league victory after pitching a perfect 10th inning.

Hector Santiago retired the first 10 Mariners he faced while Felix Hernandez retired the first seven Angels he faced and finished with eight strikeouts in six innings while permitting just one hit and three walks.

Giants 6, Rockies 3

SAN FRANCISCO -- Madison Bumgarner pitched 7 2/3 strong innings, and he helped his cause with a home run, powering San Francisco over Colorado.

Matt Duffy had a double, a triple and a home run, and Buster Posey drove in three runs with a pair of singles as the Giants won their second in a row to take the three-game series after the Rockies won the opener Friday night.

Brandon Crawford also homered for the Giants, who scored 38 runs over the final five games of the homestand after beginning the week averaging just three runs at home, the lowest figure in the majors.

Royals 5, Athletics 3

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Jeremy Guthrie pitched seven strong innings, Salvador Perez hit a two-run homer and Kansas City rallied for a victory against Oakland, sweeping the three-game series at the O.co Coliseum.

The series sweep was Kansas City's first against Oakland since Sept. 2-4, 2008, at Kauffman Stadium and first at the Coliseum since July 28-30, 2008.

Guthrie allowed two runs on seven hits, walked one and struck out a season-high seven. He struck out the side in the second and sixth innings.

Brewers 5, Twins 3

MILWAUKEE -- Ryan Braun and Adam Lind each hit two-run home runs in the eighth inning to lead Milwaukee past Minnesota at Miller Park.

Brewers starter Mike Fiers went seven innings and allowed only one run on four hits while walking three and striking out four.

MLB notebook: Mariners' Cano back in lineup
By THE SPORTS XCHANGE

Seattle Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano returned to the lineup Sunday after leaving Saturday night's game in the seventh inning with dizziness.

Cano was hit in the forehead by an errant throw during the Los Angeles Angels' infield warmups prior to the seventh inning of Seattle's 4-2 loss on Saturday night. The warmup throw from Angels shortstop Taylor Featherston to first baseman Albert Pujols struck Cano.

The five-time All-Star passed Major League Baseball's concussion protocol

"I've been hit in the head before, but I've never had anything happen like this," Cano said Saturday night. "He's a young guy (Featherston), but I don't think there's a reason for him to throw that hard between innings. I didn't hear anything. It hurts more when you don't expect it. Hopefully, everything goes well through the night and I feel good enough to play."

---Miami Marlins right fielder Giancarlo Stanton had surgery on his left wrist.

Stanton, who leads the major leagues in home runs and RBIs, fractured hamate bone in his left wrist and will miss four to six weeks.

Stanton, 25, was hurt on a swing-and-miss in the sixth inning of Friday night's 7-1 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. He stayed in the game and said his final swing, in the ninth inning, was extremely painful.

---Washington Nationals right fielder Bryce Harper, who has been dealing with hamstring soreness, was back in the lineup for Game 1 of Sunday's doubleheader at Philadelphia.

Harper missed the last three games because of the leg issue suffered while running out a double in the 11th inning last Wednesday.

---The New York Yankees optioned infielder Gregorio Petit to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Petit is hitting .184 with five RBIs in 18 games this season.

The Yankees also selected right-handed relief pitcher Esmil Rogers to the 25-man roster from Triple-A. He has a 6.27 ERA over 33 innings in 18 games this season with the Yankees..

In addition, the team transferred outfielder Slade Heathcott to the 60-day disabled list. He has been out since May 27 with a quad strain.

---Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Jose Tabata, who ruined Max Scherzer's perfect-game bid by getting hit with a pitch a week ago, was designated for assignment.

With two outs in the ninth inning against the Washington Nationals and Scherzer, Tabata was hit by pitch. Scherzer competed his no-hitter, but lost his chance for a perfect game.

Tabata, 26, hit .289 with four RBIs for the Pirates this season. He was once a top prospect in the New York Yankees organization, but has yet to fulfill expectations.

Pirates pitcher Chris Volstad was also designated for assignment. He pitched two innings for the Pirates this season, giving up no runs and two hits.

---Outfielder Grady Sizemore, a three-time All-Star who has bounced back and forth from the majors and minors in recent years, is back in the major leagues after the Tampa Bay Rays purchased his contract from Class A Charlotte.

Sizemore batted second as Tampa Bay's designated hitter against the Boston Red Sox on Sunday.

Sizemore, 32, was released by the Philadelphia Phillies on June 1, and signed with the Rays two weeks later.

---The Houston Astros recalled right-hander Michael Feliz from Double-A Corpus Christi.

Feliz made one appearance with the team earlier this season, allowing one hit while recording one strikeout in one inning of work against the White Sox on May 31. He replaced left-hander Brett Oberholtzer, who was optioned to Triple-A Fresno on Saturday night.

---The Atlanta Braves recalled right-hander Ryan Kelly from Triple-A Gwinnett and optioned right-hander Sugar Ray Marimon to the minors.

---Detroit Tigers right-hander Justin Verlander is scheduled to return to the rotation Tuesday against visiting the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Rays promote OF Sizemore
By THE SPORTS XCHANGE

Outfielder Grady Sizemore, a three-time All-Star who has bounced back and forth from the majors and minors in recent years, is back in the major leagues after the Tampa Bay Rays purchased his contract from Class A Charlotte on Sunday.

Sizemore batted second as Tampa Bay's designated hitter against the Boston Red Sox on Sunday.

Sizemore, 32, was released by the Philadelphia Phillies on June 1, and signed with the Rays two weeks later.

He played for Charlotte after being signed by Tampa Bay, and was 6-for-23 with no homers in that short stint in the minors.

Sizemore was an All-Star in 2006, 2007 and 2008, but his career was derailed by injuries.

He hit .245 in 39 games for the Phillies this season before being released.

In related roster moves, Rays outfielder Desmond Jennings was moved to the 60-day disabled list and pitcher Matt Andriese was optioned to the Triple-A Durham Bulls.

KEY STAT: Peru scored one goal or none in eight of their last ten matches

EXPERT VERDICT: Chile will be keen to make sure their all-action style dominates against Peru. Although La Roja are a bit shaky at the back, they should overwhelm the Incas without too much difficulty in what looks set to be a lively semi-final in the hosts' national stadium in Santiago.

RECOMMENDATION: Chile 3-1

KEY STAT: Sweden’s late equaliser against Portugal is the only goal the favourites have conceded in this tournament

EXPERT VERDICT: Portugal’s thumping 5-0 win over Germany has not caused the prices to shift as much as punters might expect and it is hard to find too much fault with the Esperancas' rock-solid performances during this tournament. They should edge to victory in the final against Sweden, who held them to a group-stage draw.

RECOMMENDATION: Portugal

KEY STAT: Lionel Messi has averaged 5.5 shots per game

EXPERT VERDICT: Paraguay sucked the life out of Brazil before beating them on penalties but they are unlikely to do the same to Argentina in this semi-final. Lionel Messi has not been at his prolific best during the Copa America but he has had significantly more shots than any other player and looks value to open the scoring.

RECOMMENDATION: L Messi to score first

Book shows Scots are more behind Murray than English
Andrew Avery

Online shop Paddy Power dug into the betting numbers for Wimbledon hopeful Andy Murray to see if he is "Britain's Andy Murray" or "Scotland's Andy Murray". Well, when it comes to the betting community, Scotland is firmly behind him.

According to Paddy Power's poll, 52 percent of money in Scotland is backing Murray, while just 21 percent of money in England is on him.

Furthermore, Paddy Power singles out Southampton specifically as just 13 percent of bettors from that city are on Murray at Wimbledon.

As of Friday evening, Murray was 5/1 while Novak Djokovic is the 11/8 fave.

CFL Betting Recap - Week 1
By Joe Williams

League Betting Notes

-- Underdogs went 3-1 straight up in Week 1
-- Underdogs went 4-0 ATS in Week 1
-- Home/road teams posted a 2-2 SU record in Week 1
-- Road teams posted a 3-1 ATS record in Week 1
-- The 'Under' went 3-1 in Week 1

Team Betting Notes

-- Things picked up right where they left off in the CFL. There was plenty of defense in the first week of action, as the under went 3-1 in the first four games. The under finished 11-5 in the final 16 games of the 2014 CFL regular season.

-- Ottawa (1-0) kicked off the surprises in Week 1 with a straight-up win at Montreal (0-1) despite being an eight-point underdog. The RedBlacks cashed +310 on the moneyline. It was Ottawa's first-ever win over Montreal after going 0-3 SU/1-2 ATS last season. In each of the four all-time meetings the 'under' has come through.

-- Toronto (1-0) also surprised a big favorite, as Edmonton (0-1) was rolled 26-11 in their opener on the road despite being a 7.5-point favorite. The Argonauts helped bettors at the window with a +300 payday on the moneyline.

-- The only 'over' of the weekend was in the Winnipeg (1-0) win over Saskatchewan (0-1), as the Blue Bombers scored a 30-26 road victory. The Bombers also paid a very healthy +240 on the moneyline in a weekend of 'dogs. The two teams meet again in a home-and-home series Sept. 6 and 12.

-- The only favorite to win straight-up was Calgary (1-0), who eeked out a 24-23 win with a game-winning field goal as regulation expired against a stunned Hamilton (0-1). The TiCats are now 5-2 ATS in their past seven meetings with the Stampeders, including last season's Grey Cup loss. The team sides will meet again in Hamilton Oct. 2.

Saskatchewan losses QB for remainder of season
Andrew Caley

The Saskatchewan Roughriders starting quarterback Darian Durant suffered a ruptured left Achilles in Saturday's 30-26 loss to Winnipeg and will miss the remainder of the CFL season.

Durant, who led the Roughriders to the CFL's Grey Cup title back in 2013, will be replaced by veteran backup Kevin Glenn.

Saskatchewan hosts the Toronto Argonauts next Sunday. The line is currently off the board.

Why you must pay attention to CFL action
Andrew Caley

If you don't follow the CFL closely, you probably won't have much an idea of what is going on, but if you do, there is definitely some money to be made for the average sports bettor.

For example, underdogs went an incredible 4-0 against the spread and 3-1 straight up in Week 1 of CFL action. Ottawa, Winnipeg and Toronto all won SU and ATS. The lone favorite to win was Calgary and they did so by just one point, 24-23 over Hamilton.
