NHL Grand Salami - February

The Grand Salami in pro hockey is decided by adding up all the goals scored in every game scheduled for that particular day. You can wager on 'over' or 'under' the Grand Salami total. The total is set by adding up all listed 'over/under' odds for each game on that particular day.

Note: The Grand Salami will have no action if any game is suspended or cancelled before the regulation time of three twenty minute periods. Also, regardless of the number of goals scored during the shoot out portion of the overtime, the final scored recorded for the game will give the winning team on more goal than its opponent based on the score at the end of regulation time.

*The majority of sportsbooks do not put out a total on the Grand Salami when there is only one game on the card. For tracking purposes, we will continue to show the 'over/under' for goals and combined goals scored on days with just one game.

NHL Preview: Jets (26-17) at Flames (27-20)

Date: February 02, 2015 9:00 PM EDT

As the Calgary Flames continue to thrive in the third period, penalty kill problems have plagued the Winnipeg Jets throughout their current rough stretch.

In a matchup between Western Conference wild-card leaders, the Flames look to hand the visiting Jets a fourth consecutive defeat Monday night.

Calgary (27-20-3) overcame a 2-0 deficit by doing all its scoring in the third period of Saturday's 4-2 win over Edmonton. Lance Bouma scored twice for the Flames, whose nine wins when trailing after two periods and 63 third-period goals are both league highs.

'We've done it a lot this year,' said Bouma, who has a career-high eight goals in his fourth season. "We definitely have the belief in here going into the third period, whether we're down by three or down by two, that we can come back in the game.'

A winner in six of eight, Calgary has recorded seven goals in the third period of those last two victories.

"I think the biggest thing is just confidence," Bouma said. "That's huge for us. Every game from here on in is going to be huge."

Looking for their first playoff appearance since 2008-09, the Flames are three points behind wild-card-leading Winnipeg (26-17-8).

One of Calgary's four goals Saturday came on the power-play, where it's 2 for 9 in three games after going 4 for 57 in the previous 17 contests.

Winnipeg's last three opponents are 7 for 13 on the power play after Dallas converted half of its eight chances while handing the Jets a 5-2 loss Saturday. The Jets killed 19 of 20 penalties while winning the previous five in a row.

"We've lost three in a row so you have to deal with that," said coach Paul Maurice, whose team has allowed five goals in each of the last three. "We're slow on our (penalty) kill right now and that's a confidence thing."

Winnipeg, which dropped a season-high four in a row from Oct. 11-19, drew 35 minutes in penalties Saturday - its third-highest total of the season.

'It's something that we need to get better at,' said captain Andrew Ladd, who had a goal with an assist. 'At times, you try to wind yourself up as much as possible emotionally, trying to finish your check and (be) involved in the game.

'Sometimes, we've been taking it too far, so it's something where we have to get better at walking that line and being more disciplined.'

Calgary scored once in the third period and went 1 for 3 with the man advantage in a 4-1 win at Winnipeg on Oct. 19. The Flames' Mason Raymond recorded three of his 10 points on the season and Jonas Hiller made 34 saves.

Hiller, who missed some time last month because of the flu, has a 1.35 goals-against average while winning two of his last three starts.

Winnipeg's Michael Hutchinson, who made 27 saves Saturday, has allowed nine goals while losing two straight since shutting out Columbus for his fourth straight victory.

Teammate Ondrej Pavelec has a 3.36 GAA during a 2-3-2 stretch, and is 1-3-0 with a 3.55 GAA against the Flames.

The Jets franchise has won two straight at Calgary since losing its first six trips.

Jets at Flames: What bettors need to know

Winnipeg Jets at Calgary Flames (-120, 5)

After facing little resistance during a five-game winning streak, the Winnipeg Jets have seen their defense spring a leak to the tune of allowing five goals in each contest during their current three-game slide. The Jets look to fly right when they open a two-game road trip against the Calgary Flames on Monday. Both clubs occupy fourth place in their respective divisions and are clinging to the wild-card slots in the Western Conference playoff picture.

Calgary, which is three points behind Winnipeg in the standings, authored its league-best ninth victory when trailing after two periods as it scored four times in the final session to post a 4-2 triumph over provincial-rival Edmonton on Saturday. "Obviously, right now, we're rolling and it's been a fun go here lately," said Lance Bouma, who recorded his first career two-goal performance to send the Flames to their sixth victory in eight outings. Mason Raymond, who had an assist versus the Oilers, scored and set up two goals in Calgary's 4-1 triumph over Winnipeg on Oct. 19.

TV: 9 p.m. ET, TSN3 (Winnipeg), RSW (Calgary)

ABOUT THE JETS (26-17-8 SU, 26-22 O/U): A porous penalty kill has plagued Winnipeg, which has allowed its opponents to convert 7-of-13 power-play opportunities during the losing skid after denying all but one of 20 chances in the previous five contests. "We're slow on our kill right now. It's a confidence thing," coach Paul Maurice told the Winnipeg Sun following his team's 5-2 setback to Dallas on Saturday. Captain Andrew Ladd collected a goal and an assist versus the Stars, with his 18th tally pulling him into a tie for the team lead with Bryan Little.

ABOUT THE FLAMES (27-20-3 SU, 22-27 O/U): Defenseman Dennis Wideman joined rookie Johnny Gaudreau by scoring and setting up a goal in his last meeting with Winnipeg. Wideman, who resides one goal shy of his career-high 13 during his 2008-09 season in Boston, had an assist versus Edmonton and has seven points (two goals, five assists) in his last nine games. Jonas Hiller, who owns a 1-2-1 career mark against Winnipeg, has stopped 79-of-84 shots in his last four appearances after yielding six goals versus Florida on Jan. 9.

Rangers enjoying recent success versus Panthers
Andrew Avery

The New York Rangers will welcome the Florida Panthers into Madison Square Garden with open arms Monday. The Rangers have won four-straight meetings with the Panthers, including a 5-2 win in Florida on New Year's Eve.

At the time of writing, the Rangers were tabbed as -201 favorites and oddsmakers have a total of 5 for the matchup.

KEY STAT: Schalke have lost their last five league matches at Bayern by at least two goals

EXPERT VERDICT: The runaway leaders were thrashed 4-1 at Wolfsburg on Friday but Schalke have every reason to expect a Bayern Munich backlash at the Allianz Arena. Bayern’s 100 per cent home record is set to remain intact and ten-goal top scorer Arjen Robben looks as likely as anyone to open the floodgates.

RECOMMENDATION: A Robben first goalscorer

KEY STAT: Roma have drawn their last five matches in normal time

EXPERT VERDICT: Roma have lost their way in recent weeks and are not playing with the same sparkle which made them such a success story last season. A tight quarter-final is anticipated with eight of Roma’s last nine matches featuring no more than two goals and extra-time looks a real possibility.

KEY STAT: PSV have won 12 of their last 13 league matches

EXPERT VERDICT: Lowly NAC Breda have not won any of their last six games and their poor run is set to continue with a heavy defeat at home to league leaders PSV Eindhoven. PSV have not dropped any points against teams in the current bottom half and have very little to fear from NAC, whose only home win came in late August.

RECOMMENDATION: PSV to win 3-0

KEY STAT: Man Utd have scored two goals or more in eight of their last 11 home games

EXPERT VERDICT: Earning a replay at Old Trafford is already beyond Cambridge’s wildest dreams but the adventure looks set to end with a heavy defeat. Manchester United have been reluctant to go for the throat but that changed in the first half against Leicester and Louis Van Gaal will demand a repeat performance.

RECOMMENDATION: Man Utd to win 4-0

KEY STAT: Lille have scored no more than once in eight of their last nine fixtures

EXPERT VERDICT: Paris St-Germain have made a strong start to the year – winning five of their six games – and can sneak an away victory over Lille in the League Cup semi-final. The weekend league match away to Lyon is a massive test and PSG can warm up by seeing off out-of-form Lille, who have gone three games without a win.

KEY STAT: Heerenveen have lost just one of their last eight home games

EXPERT VERDICT: Heerenveen have improved since the start of December – winning three and drawing three of their six games – and can hold Feyenoord to a draw at the Abe Lenstra stadium. Third-placed Feyenoord have recovered well after a slow start to the season but only two visiting sides have won at Heerenveen this season.

NBA Win Total Update - February

The first-half of the 2014-15 NBA regular season is in the books with most teams playing at least 45 games.

Before the marathon of the 82-game regular season began, the LVH SuperBook at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort released NBA Win Totals for all 30 teams.

We checked in on teams after the 1st quarter (20 games) and took notice that the Western Conference was dominating with nine teams on pace to go 'over' their win total expectations set by the oddsmakers. Since then, a lot has changed in the West and the East.

The team taking the league by storm right now is Atlanta, who put together a perfect 17-0 mark this month. The Hawks were on pace to bust their win total of 40.5 heading into January, but Atlanta is now several wins away from cashing 'over' tickets.

Golden State also dominated in January with a 12-3 record to own the best winning percentage in the league at .837. The Warriors still have work to do to finish 'over' their win total of 50.5, but Steve Kerr's team is well on its way there.

Three clubs are stuck in the single-digit win category towards the end of January, as bettors who took the 'under' in the Knicks, Timberwolves and 76ers are looking great. The Nets and Lakers each put together a horrible month to pretty much lock up 'under' winners.

Last season, Phoenix was the first team to earn a result on its win total. This year's version of the Suns is Milwaukee, who have gone 25-22 through Jan. 31, 2015. The win total on the Bucks was listed at 24.5 victories, which means they cashed tickets on Saturday night with their home win over Portland.

Listed below are all of the teams, their win totals, record and projection, which is based on current win percentage.

2014-15 NBA Win Totals (**Records as of 1/31/15**)

NBA Hawks at Pelicans: What bettors need to know

Atlanta Hawks at New Orleans Pelicans (OFF, OFF)

The Atlanta Hawks got a couple of scares over the weekend but made it through with their winning streak intact and the best record in the NBA to the right of their name in the standings. The Hawks just completed the best month in NBA history and will try to make it 20 straight victories when they open February by visiting the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday. The Pelicans have taken five of their last six and are thriving at home.

Atlanta’s 17-0 January eclipsed the San Antonio Spurs’ 16-0 March of last season as the best in a calendar month, but the Hawks trailed the Philadelphia 76ers down the stretch before pulling out a 91-85 triumph on Saturday. “Finding ways to win, different players stepping up each night, against a very good defensive team,” Atlanta coach Mike Budenholzer told reporters. “We are going to have to play a lot better going forward.” The Hawks could catch a break on Monday if Pelicans star Anthony Davis (groin) is forced to miss a second consecutive game.

TV: 8 p.m. ET, NBATV, SportSouth (Atlanta), FSN New Orleans

ABOUT THE HAWKS (40-8 SU, 34-14 ATS, 25-23 O/U): Atlanta, which outscored Portland 36-25 in the fourth quarter of a 105-99 win on Friday, is getting clutch performances down the stretch from the likes of Dennis Schroder and Al Horford. Schroder stepped up with a go-ahead 3-pointer with 1:35 left after Horford’s tying bucket on Saturday and continues to draw praise from the staff. “I’m on him a lot to attack,” Budenholzer told reporters of Schroder. “...We believe that when you are open, you need to take what the game gives you. He is going to grow. He’s going to hit big shots for us going forward. We are confident in him.”

ABOUT THE PELICANS (25-22 SU, 28-19 ATS, 23-24 O/U): New Orleans survived without Davis on Friday, when Eric Gordon and Ryan Anderson buried five 3-pointers apiece and Dante Cunningham and Alexis Ajinca helped cover for the loss on the inside. “I’m just trying to give it everything I have every time I’m on the court,” Ajinca told reporters. “It helps when I have more minutes. When it does happen, I’m trying to do anything I can to help the team, whether that is rebounds, points or energy.” Friday’s win pushed the Pelicans to 3-1 on their six-game homestand, which concludes with Atlanta and Oklahoma City.

NBA notebook: Rondo to miss Monday's game
By THE SPORTS XCHANGE

Dallas Mavericks point guard Rajon Rondo reportedly will not play Monday night against the Minnesota Timberwolves due to a facial injury.

League sources told ESPN that Rondo, who suffered the injury in the first quarter of Saturday night's win in Orlando, was scheduled to be evaluated Sunday by the Mavericks' medical staff to establish how long he will be sidelined.

The injury occurred when Rondo tripped and was accidentally kneed in the face by teammate Richard Jefferson. Jefferson did not see Rondo on the floor as he started to sprint down the court on a fast break.

In 20 games since being acquired by Dallas from the Boston Celtics on Dec. 18, Rondo is averaging 9.7 points and 6.9 assists, while shooting 40 percent from the floor.

--The Houston Rockets fear that center Dwight Howard might be sidelined at least a month because of the continuing problems with his right knee, ESPN reported Saturday.

The Rockets still expect Howard to be ready to return for the final few weeks of the regular season as well as the playoffs, but now they believe Howard will be out for weeks instead of days, as originally thought.

--The Phoenix Suns recalled guards Reggie Bullock and Archie Goodwin from the Bakersfield Jam of the NBA Development League, the team announced.

Bullock played in 25 games for the Los Angeles Clippers this season, averaging 2.6 points. He played in one game for the Suns without scoring.

Goodwin played in 13 games for the Suns this season, averaging 3.6 points.

Cavs surging straight up and against the spread
Andrew Avery

The Cleveland Cavaliers head into Monday's meeting with the Philadelphia 76ers riding a 10-game straight up winning streak and are 9-1 against the spread over that stretch.

The recent streak seemingly puts a tough start to the season in the rear-view mirror. Prior to the currently streak, the Cavs dropped six-straight games SU and ATS.

The two Eastern Conference teams have played once this season, with the Sixers winning 95-92 as 7.5-point dogs back on Jan. 5.

Raptors open as 7-point favorites versus Bucks
Andrew Avery

Sports books have opened the hot Toronto Raptors as 7-point home favorites with the Milwaukee Bucks in town Monday evening.

The Raptors are enjoying a six-game winning streak which has seen them go 3-3 against the spread.

The Raps and Bucks have met twice already this season with the former winning both games straight up and against the spread.

SEAFOOD MONEY seems to be our best wagering option in this contest. If effort in the most recent race is any indicator, this harness racer will have a very great shot this time. High last race speed rating. Win percent for this driver-conditioner is a sparkling 19 percent - tremendous probability. Talk about a dynamic duo, Goodell and Kennedy have some of the best driver-trainer ratings at the track. BETTOR BUSINESS - Feel the need for speed, this nice horse has been turning in some excellent TrackMaster Speed Ratings averaging around 80. One of the best win percents with this driver/trainer make this mare dangerous. CHECKOUT TERROR - Had one of the finest speed ratings of the race in her last race. Must use in your bets. When Stiltner sends this horse out you can bet they'll be in the money, numbers show them there 55 percent of the time.

After thorough analysis by the consortium, GUTSY GREG comes out as the top selection. Could best this field, just look at the speed rating - 75 - from his most recent effort. Should be in the hunt again in this one, looking to increase that already high lifetime winning figure. 100 percent of the time this driver and horse twosome end up hitting the board. Big players in this contest. LITTLE QUICK - This solid standardbred looks dangerous. Take a good look at the 80 average speed figure. Is a strong choice given the 81 TrackMaster SR from his most recent outing. SHOW TOPPER - The number crunching team keenly points out that when Jarvis trains this horse, the odds of finishing hitting the board go way up.

I have to support MS GATOR GUNNER here. Has strong early lick and ought to fare soundly versus this group of horses. Crowson has shown excellent profits (+7 return on investment ) with horses in short events. Crowson has one of the best winning percentages in this group with entries running at this distance and surface. BIG FIRST DOWN DASH - Will most likely compete admirably in the early pace clash which bodes well with this group. Must be considered given the class of races run recently. SOUTHERN ROSES - Looks respectable for the conditions of this outing today, showing solid figures in short races recently.

# 1A CHELLA 2/1

# 4 STARTIN SOMETHING 9/5

# 1 TAMMY'S CHOICE 2/1

I've got to go with CHELLA. Could best this field based on the speed figure - 88 - of her last effort. Win percentage under similar conditions may be the key for this filly. Can't overlook the connections here, a 24 winning percentage, one of the best at getting into the winner's circle. STARTIN SOMETHING - Has performed strongly recently in sprint races, posting a nifty 76 avg speed rating. This mare with Colon in the saddle makes her a solid choice. TAMMY'S CHOICE - Trainer has solid win rate (17 percent) at this distance and surface. Ought to come out solid - I have liked the way this filly has moved sharply to the lead recently.
