WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President Barack Obama ordered the U.S. Treasury on Saturday to implement tax cuts for 95 percent of Americans, fulfilling a campaign pledge he hopes will help jolt the economy out of recession.
The tax cuts are part of a $787 billion economic recovery plan passed by the Democratic-controlled Congress over Republican opposition. The aim is to put more money in the pockets of Americans and stimulate the economy by increasing consumer spending.
"I'm pleased to announce that this morning the Treasury Department began directing employers to reduce the amount of taxes withheld from paychecks, meaning that by April 1st, a typical family will begin taking home at least $65 more every month," Obama said in his weekly radio address.
"Never before in our history has a tax cut taken effect faster or gone to so many hard-working Americans," he said.

I don’t want to seem ungrateful but that amount will barely pay a quarter of my electric bill in the coming months. You want to really spur the economy don’t tax me at all for a year.

Shit. Live in Phoenix or Vegas in a decent size home and $260 per month in the summer is a bargain. Unless you want to keep the thermostat at 85 degrees and roast.

If you lived here you would quickly find that air is a necessity not a luxury when it gets up to 120 during the day in the summer. :toast:

Not noticing that you are sweating becomes a problem. You don’t notice that you are dehydrating until all of a sudden it’s 110 and you’re cold. I carry water with me when I go out and try to stay away from alcohol. I can live with 3 months of discomfort, the rest of the year is pretty nice.

Texas. Not even considered a big house in my area 2 AC units and vaulted ceiling. I haven't had a Electric bill in the $100 here since I lived in a one bedroom apt. back in 1987. Hot and humid here most of the year.

Uhhh....

You might want to consider buying a new AC/heating unit. Either that or try getting yours serviced.

I bet you could cut those bills in half with efficient units. You would make your money back in a few months.
