Yeah, Al Kaline came up in 1953.

Actually, Clint Hurdle just barely missed it. He came up two months after he turned 20 and hit his first homer.

The 3 best known teenager success stories of all time.

Mel Ott hit 18 HR's at the age of 19 I think thats the record for teenagers, & hit his first at the age of 18

Jimmy Foxx came up at 17 & got 6 hits in 9 AB, .667, a harbinger of things to come, his first HR's came at 19

Phil Cavaretta at 18 played the most important roll of all hitting 8HR's starting at first for the Cubs helping them to the World Series

All 3 had long careers 2 became Hall of Famers.

great question...i forgot about this thread...someone mentioned Valenzuela..I looked him up yesterday, he didn't homer his first yr, age 19...he did homer shortly after that though...I believe it was age 21....I figured there would a be a tricky one in there.

Two young pitchers who had good success not the type Gooden had were Lindy & Von McDaniel. Of all the teenage pitchers Bob Feller was in a league of his own,
1) At 17 he broke the major league for SO with 17.
2) At 18 he led the league in SO
3) At 19 he won 24 & led league in SO

right, forgot about Feller.
