The DH rule for the NL is a must.....Players Union would never go for a pitcher having to face 3 hitters....an expansion to the roster has a shot ....
agree totally, union would never disagree with expanding rosters, DH primarily guys that you really don't want to try and hide in the field now would have 15 more potential places to play as DH. it's really tough to make it to the majors these days if you can hit exceptionally well but are viewed as as defense liability ( like Andujar- NYY). TEAMS carry so many pitchers now that a 3-man bench with a back-up catcher as one of the three, that you don't dare use makes a full-time DH like a David Ortiz tough to put on your roster, and very few few perform as well as he did and go out on top at age 40ish, almost none can compare to that, most position players are crap after age 35, pitchers can do better. How great could have fat (__*__) David Wells have been if he he was fit ? Dude pitched until he was like 44.
A highly over-rated 60- inning a year guy like Rivera can pitch until about 40 at 60 innings a year, big deal, Wells was like that fatass golfer, I forget his name now, all the talent in the world and could have been an all-time great with a bit more conditioning and devotion to being a HOF guy.
back to the DH, a team like the NYY ( The team I most closely follow) can't have a full-time DH, they have way too many guys that aren't glove first guys that can share the DH spot like catcher Sanchez, he should get some Dh time since that is the toughest position to play, and he might benefit from mental time off since he isn't the most stable guy around anyway, Andujar should do sometime at DH as he is unlikely to become even average defensively, Stanton and Judge could stand an occasional day off of fielding.
Every team is like that, at least AL TEAMS, easy to fill that DH spot with a really great hitter that cant field better than a high school player, for low budget money...such a guy ain't likely to make it beyond AA ball !
the rest is BS, how can you say 3 batters ? pitcher could feign injury and need replacement, how do you prove it was a ploy from the opposing manager ?
I'll go for only making the DH the standard. baseball is not a clocked gane, part of its' charm, it might go 22 innings with 3 rain delays and taking 8+ hours, don't like, go home ! if you need to now what time the game will end at the latest, then NHL is your game, the game is forced to end via shootout after a very predictable timeframe I don't like that concept, perhaps some changes are in order, but I think baseball has a way of self- correcting issues, players will brawl when an egrogarious ( I can't spell that word) offense occurs, umpires will expand the strike zone on an batter that is an A-hole and holds up the game, it's pretty much worked and evolved over a century plus, I really don't think the fans are objecting to game times, more like TV networks that can't figure out how long the game will last. You decide to go see the Yankees or whatever team wherever, it's an all day thing, you ain't going to get anything else done that day, that's a shot day devoted to attending a game in person, you ain't gonna care about shaving a few minutes off of the game !
It's kind of like these TV networks that show a movie and trim it down to allotted time frame of usually( 2 hours, maybe 2.5 hour for a longer movie).. I don't want baseball to become that !
it ain't too broken, don't try to hard to fix it ! Something like an amateur mechanic replacing parts on a malfunctioning car, guessing as to what's wrong , but not really knowing....
better to get a real pro mechanic to determine what is amiss, instead of a fool that knows just enough to be dangerous !
baseball has a way of fixing its own problems.
the stuff about b=not giving top free agents like Harper/ Machado is the market getting sophisiicated enough to see that they ain't worth 400 million/ 10 year + contracts dollar they want, almost none of those long-term deals work in the team's favor.
I don't team owners are in collusion against players, they can just micro-analiise stuff better now !
I can't spell for shit today !, but hey it ain't English class.
a lot of times a team like NYY can sign a guy like that DJ whats his name to fill a void for 2years /24 Million instead of MM for 10/ 300, moves like that make sense. you get a good glove to fill in for a defensively no so good team can play multiple positions, short contract for fair money, I think the guy even won a batting titlein the NL a few years ago, but it doesn't count as Colorado is not comparable to any other baseball city.
still a potentially really key player that comes cheap and short- term to fill a void, guys like this are great acquisitions, even pulling a Troy T-ski off of the garbage heap for nothing is a good move, pretty much no risk, high ceiling.
the game is changing with stuff like defensive
shifts and so forth and maybe teams not wanting to essentially marry players for life
