Alright so tournament time is here and this is generally where I have most of my success with betting on college basketball. I will be betting on the NIT, the CBI, the CollegeInsider.com and the NCAA Tournament of course. I don't know that I will bet on all the games because you have to be selective to be successful in sports betting and after 7-8 years of handicapping I am finally starting to learn that.

I am so happy to have March finally come strolling around. I needed this month to show up. Time to turn things around big time. Okay so we are in the home stretch of the college basketball season and I am no satisfied with my results. I have not been able to go on any kind of streak and have not been all that helpful to anyone who visits my threads. My solution to this is to go back to my old school capping ways that made me more than 40k on the season in the NFL. I have tried too hard to mess around with systems, PS3 plays and all sorts of bullshit that I have sorta lost my way a bit.

So my plan from here on in is to go back to my style of capping which is straight up gut and stats, big unit plays, televised games and all that good stuff. We are closing in on tournament time both conference and the NIT and NCAA tournaments and this is the best time of the year to place huge wagers on college hoops. I don't have much else to say. I have always done well betting on college hoops but again my season has not gone as well as I would have liked it to at this point on in the year. Wish me luck and can't wait to catch fire.

1 unit = $100

You can tail, you can fade or you can just watch. I have always been a streaky capper. Good Luck to all this week!

NIT Tournament - First Round

The Rhode Island Rams are a high scoring team and nobody doubts they can put some points up on the board on any given day. They come into this game averaging 78.9 points per game on the road this season where they managed to shoot 48.3% from the floor in those games. That's good and all but what you have to realize is that Niagara's defense at home is very solid and they have allowed only 67.5 points per home game this season and allowed those opponents to shoot only 40.4% from the floor in those games so Rhode Island could be in trouble here. The Rams don't take many three point shot attempts but when they do they knock them down most of the time which is why I like the fact that Niagara has held their home opponents to 34.1% from three point range this season. Rhode Island is just an average team away from home as they shoot on average when it comes to free throws and get to the line only 19.9 times per game which is also around the NCAA average. Niagara's interior defense is pretty good as they have allowed only their home opponents to get to the line only 18.1 times per game this season. This is going to be an interesting battle on the board as both teams are very good around their own basket and both teams love attacking opposing baskets for second chance points. As much as I admire the guard play of the Rams this season in terms of their ball moving skills, they have turned the ball over 13.8 times per away game and are going up against one of the most aggressive defensive teams in the Nation at home as Niagara has forced 17.2 turnovers per home game this season on 11.4 steals per game. It is very hard to move the ball inside outside against this defense when they play at home as they have allowed only 11.4 assists per home game this season. They are very good with their interior defense averaging 5.5 blocks per home game and unless Rhode Island can shoot the lights out from the outside, this is going to be a long night for these guys. You cannot get lazy against this defense and too many times this season Rhode Island has been lazy with the ball when playing away from home. I think they struggle against this defense.

The Niagara Purple Eagles are probably happy to be in this tournament with the chance to win an opening round game at home and despite their on and off regular season, I think this team is going to be dangerous in this tournament. This is a great matchup for them anyways. They come into this game averaging a whopping 84.4 points per game in their last five games and despite shooting only 41.1% from the floor in those games, they have been very dangerous on both ends of the ball and that is the style they play night in and night out. I think the Purple Eagles are going to score a ton of points tonight against a defense that has allowed 74.0 points per game in their last five games and that has allowed those opponents to shoot 46.3% from the floor in those games (well above the NCAA average for the last five games). One thing you have to know about Niagara is that despite not being a great three point shooting team, these guys live and die by the three point shot attempting 27.8 three point shots in their last five games which could be a big problem for Rhode Island as the Rams have allowed their last five opponents to make 34.3% of their three point shots on 7.2 three point shots made per game in those games. Niagara has made 8.2 three point shots per game in their last five games. Don't mess with this team around the basket as they are very aggressive inside getting to the free throw line a whopping 31.2 times per game in their last five games which is a huge advantage when you are trying to pull away in games and grab a big lead. The Purple Eagles are a very good rebouding team having brought down a whopping 41.8 rebounds per game in their last five games on 14.6 offensive rebounds per game. To beat Rhode Island you have to be good on the boards. Niagara's guard play has only been average as of late but they have averaged 13.8 assists per game in their last five games and are going up against a Rhode Island defense that has recently struggled to stop teams who can move the ball around the perimeter, allowing 14.0 assists per game in their last five games. The Rams have managed to force only 12.4 turnovers per game in those games and in a game where the action is no doubt going to be rampant and fast, you have to force more turnovers and come up with more possessions or you are going to get blown away. Niagara is too well balanced for the Rams and it's going to show tonight as they score another huge bunch of points in this game.

This is actually the first time ever these two teams meet and I think we are in for a pretty damn good matchup here. I know both teams can put up big numbers but in my mind you cannot beat Niagara in a shootout on their home floor and even if the Rams have a big lead, it won't last long and the Purple Eagles will eventually take this game over. I know Rhode Island has been very good in the past when it comes to out of conference games and they have been a good ATS wager at times on the road against good conference home teams. Having said that, Rhode Island has lost two games in a row now and they are only 4-11-1 ATS in their last 16 games that follow a straight up loss the game before. They are also only 1-5 ATS in their last six games versus a team that has a straight up winning record on the season. Niagara on the other hand is ready to handle their business against anyone who comes into this house as they are 5-0 ATS in their last five games versus home opponents who have a winning road record on the season and they are 4-0 ATS in their last four home games as a favorite of 0.5 to 6.5 points. I also have to mention that Niagara is a whopping 21-5 ATS in their last 26 games overall as a favorite of 0.5 to 6.5 points. The Purple Eagles are 7-2 ATS in their last nine games versus Atlantic 10 opponents, they are 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games as a favorite, 38-17-1 ATS in their last 56 non-conference games, 22-10 ATS in their last 32 games versus a team with a winning straight up record and they have covered the spread in 5 of their last 7 home games. Need I say more about Niagara winning this game tonight?

Trend of the Game: Niagara is 21-5 ATS in their last 26 games overall as a favorite of 0.5 to 6.5 points.

Niagara 82, Rhode Island 71

I don't know what I was thinking touching that Niagara game. I had 5 plays lined up for tonight, added that one out of nowhere and it lost while the others have won so far. So stupid of me but oh well, looking to finish the night strong.
