Is it just me or are these two locks at +3.5 each? Notre Dame is not good, they just had Jesus on their side Saturday. Michigan State has owned them in the past and they are at home and will surely be pumped up. MSU has started off slow as expected with all the youngsters. But to me this game seems to easy. Pitt, well they are hosting Nebraska and well... uhh... Nebraska and West Coast offense, your smart you get it.

I'm still going with my gut on MSU. Remember, Notre Dame lost to BYU (that's a school full of white mormons for those of you who don't know) and then turned around and beat Michigan. I like the let down from Notre Dame this Saturday and MSU to be primed up...

I'll have to agree with Kodiak. The win last week may have helped the Irish turn the corner. They are the better team. This is the same Mich. St. team that Rutgers beat a couple of weeks ago, isn't it?

Uhhh this is the same Notre Dame team that lost to a bunch on Mormons in front a of a national audience right? I understand that Notre Dame beat Michigan last week and everyone is high on them, but this is a sure fire let down game here. That was their Super Bowl and they were at home. Not Michigan's fault the Irish have Jesus on their side at home. MSU isn't much better but they have homefield and they will be primed for this one.

chadc, I really think you should rethink this one. MSU is bad, very bad. Notre Dame defense will be the deference here.

good luck buddy

.....and Pitt is even worse! Outyarded 195 - 90 in the first half and 290 - 217 for the game by Ohio. Real trouble in the Steel City this year for the Panthers!

Close....but MSU will win. 2 YOUNG but talented quarterbacks, playing at home, Primetime, Gameday in EL, and a HUGE letdown game for ND. The gold helmets will come back down to earth on Saturday night. I will be at the game.

And CMU's running back could start on ANY Big Ten team...

P.S. - I HATE disagreeing with you Kodiak....I love your threads.

Good Luck Guys!

I will chime in on the Nebraska game.

Nebraska totally dominated the Southern Miss game last week. The Nebraska defense stopped SM the entire game and only allowed one drive by the SM offense and that resulted in a FG. SM did have one big pass play that resulted in a TD. On that play the starting CB for NU was out and a true freshman got beat on the play. SM was smart to attack him, but that was there best offensive play all day. SM got all their points off of the Huskers turnovers. Twice in the first half SM got the ball off turnovers deep in Nebraska territory and the defense held them to field goals every time.

The Husker offense took a lot of criticism (rightfully so) about their turnovers. QB Daily had 4 INT's and a fumble I think. But it doesn't tell the whole story. Nebraska had close to 500 yards total offense and really moved the ball almost at will against the SM defense. The running game was really strong also. The passing offense was really good for most of the game minues a couple of plays. Daily threw one INT when he was hit from behind and that resulted in a FG for SM. He also threw a blind screen pass to noone that resulted in an INT for a TD.

Don't get me wrong, Daily is inexperienced and makes some stupid plays. BUT the Husker offense has looked really sharp and has moved up and down the field in their first two games. They look way more fluid than what I thought they would look, but Daily makes a stupid inexperienced play every now and then but the defense has really kept it from hurting them to bad.

NU had two opportunities late in the game to win it and Dailey fumbled at about the 10 when they were going in for the win, and they got back and there was a dropped TD pass for the win and then a turnover on downs to close the game.

SM was supposed to have a better offense this year but the blackshirts shut them down for almost the entire game (gave up one drive for a FG, and a long pass for a TD off a TO).

The offense has looked very good and if Dailey would just throw the ball away instead of trying to force a couple of passes this Husker team could be very very good.

The box score doesn't indicate how Nebraska controlled most of that game and dominated on defense.

Pitt looked horrible and only managed 49 yards passing against Ohio U. I don't think they stack up at all against the NU defense and as long as NU continues to run the ball real efficiently and doesn't commit as many turnovers then this will be a total rout.

Just my thoughts.

Part of a post taken from another board I visit. Thread "Michigan - Notre Dame in a nutshell"

--------------------------
THAT is what happens when Lloyd Carr goes conservative in South Bend. Notre Dame hangs around because Carr allows that to happen with his play selection and strategic decisions in the first half. Then the Irish hit one or two big plays, gain momentum, see the momentum snowball, and cap it off with a special teams play. This was the formula the Irish used in 2002 under Willingham, and with this win, it's possible they could use it again. What dawns upon the observer in the wake of this game is that this culture of belief--a culture that only comes from being a Golden Domer, unlike anyone or anything else in college football--can singlehandedly propel the Irish forward, and that it--not anything associated with raw talent--is what led the Irish to those 10 wins two seasons ago.

They can thank Lloyd Carr for providing their jump start every even-numbered year. We'll see if Ty's troops maximize this Michigan win the same way they did in 2002.

1999 4-8 Lost to Mich/ Lost to Mich St
2000 8-3 Did not play Mich/ Lost to Mich St
2001 4-7 Did not play Mich/ Lost to Mich St
2002 9-3 ND+5 Beat mich 25-23 O/R/ Beat Mich St
2003 4-8 Lost to Mich/ Lost to Mich St
2004 ?

Not trying to sway anyone either way, just food for thought....

good luck with whoever you bet

Mich St.
ND
Pitt
Nebraska

All four are great teams to play against this year. Too bad they are playing each other this weekend, I'm gonna wait to see who ends up looking good after this weekend and bet against them next week....

LB,

You are pretty accurate on your assessment of Nebraska.

BUT..............

The problem is exactly what you stated, " As long as Nebraska doesn't commit as many turnovers" Well, thats my thoughts exactly but Dailey continues to make HORRIBLE decisions. There really is no reason to believe that he won't have several turnovers in this game. It is his first game on the road and in his previous games there were actually several other passes that could have been interceptions. It seems that the only thing that keeps him from throwing more interceptions is the fact that he has thrown an interception

I have put some decent cash on the Under Team Total points on Pitt less than 18.5 The only thing that will screw this is turnovers resulting in TD's. I am even willing to give Pitt 10 points off of turnovers and I still don't think they score more than 18.

Omaha,

You stated the most important point. The Husker offense should roll but turnovers will due them in.

I am really amazed how well the team has picked up this new offense and that it has worked very very well. I thought that they would struggle with the plays and stuff but the whole team seems to really know the offense.

As a die hard Husker fan I try not to ever bet them (or against them) but it just seemed to me that they dominated the SMiss game but handed them the win. I hope they can get a handle on the turnover situation because if they could they would be a very good team.

I am concerned about Dailey making his first start on the road, it will probably lead to a couple of turnovers. He just seems to make stupid stupid mistakes but then at times look really good.

I think the Huskers Defense should dominate this game and as long as the Huskers don't turn it over and allow Pitt to be in scoring position I think this could be a 3-4 TD win for the Big Red.

Just have to hope that turnovers won't give Pitt to many points.

This game is on ABC and I am going to have to tape it because I am going to go to the TCU-Texas Tech game. Free tickets for my part of school so I have to go.

Go Big Red
