What a rough year it was for Michigan fans in 2008. Now I know how Notre Dame and Michigan St fans feel every couple of years. Speaking for the entire Michigan Wolverine fan nation, please do not do that to us again this year. I am too young to have a heart attack and for my blood pressure to go through the roof. I understand we may be another year away from really competing, but can we please make a bowl game?! Us Michigan fans were spoiled for so many years and I think we took it for granted. Year after year we were playing in prestigious bowl games (and losing most years). This year I don’t need a prestigious bowl game. I don’t care if the game is in Detroit (actually that would be awesome and make the Motor City Bowl a game I might stay at for more than a quarter and not be completely wasted), Toronto, San Francisco or Florida. I don’t care if we are playing Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan (although that would be really, really cool and I probably would have already had a heart attack if the Eagles become bowl eligible), Western Michigan, Miami (OH), Ohio U, Ashland or Defiance. Just please make a bowl game. Let’s see what the all knowing one thinks the Wolverines will do:

September 5 – Western Michigan
The Tate Forcier/Denard Robinson era is officially underway. Thank God that puke stain Steven Threet is gone. He might be the only person to play at four Division 1 schools after Arizona St realizes he is awful and he transfers again. This game right here is my 1,000 * lock of the year. I know it is really early to be doing that, but I see Michigan as a 9.5 or 10 pt favorite. Western was a bowl team last year and Michigan wasn’t, but this is MICHIGAN and Western Michigan we are comparing. Rich Rod gets the boys ready to play and Michigan opens the season on a roll. Western will score late to make the score look closer than it actually is.
Final Score: Michigan 30 WMU 17
1-0

September 12 – Notre Dame
Notre Dame is going to come into this game big headed after consecutive wins @ Hawaii and at home against Nevada. Maybe Notre Dame should get in the WAC and their success rate would go up. But as was posted earlier, this is a good Notre Dame team. A team that Michigan can’t look past with Eastern Michigan next on the schedule and it will be a good game. Gone are the days when Michigan would beat Notre Dame 38-0 in 2003 and 2007. This is Charlie Weis’ program now and he won’t stand for any of that. But with the game being played in the Big House, Hulk Hogan folds under pressure and throws two picks and Michigan wins. Undefeated season???
Final Score: Michigan 27 Notre Dame 24
2-0

September 19 – Eastern Michigan
The battle for Washtenaw County bragging rights is upon us! Many of these players know each other and will be fired up to play this game. EMU will be looking to prove they can play with the big boys and they are no pushovers. Michigan will be looking to prove EMU is a pushover and trying to pad their stats. Rich Rod makes Ron English wish he was the D Coordinator for Michigan in this one. Michigan matches their season win total in the first three games of 2009.
Final Score: Michigan 51 EMU 17
3-0

September 26 – Indiana
I’m not sure if it is a good thing or not to have Indiana at the beginning of your schedule. You know you are going to beat them and 4-0 is a great start. But it might be better to have that game in the middle of the schedule as a break, or to have it at the end of the schedule to know you have a win in the bag. However you see it, Michigan gets a win on homecoming in getting prepared for the Spartans. I remember the years when you didn’t even have to watch this game, knowing Michigan was going to win. I’m looking forward to watching this one as it might be the last win of the season.
Final Score: Michigan 31 Indiana 10
4-0 (1-0)

October 3 @ Michigan St
I hate to say it, but these young Wolverines may not yet be ready to win in East Lansing. I wouldn’t be shocked to see Michigan win this game, but the chances aren’t great. Look for Michigan to keep this one closer than the experts think and maybe even pull off an upset (if you want to call it that). Spartans in a tight one.
Final Score: MSU 27 Michigan 24
4-1 (1-1)

October 10 @ Iowa
Just to review my ‘sleeper’ teams for 2009: NC St, Miami (FL), Washington (will be much improved but W/L won’t show it) and Iowa. Yes Iowa. It wouldn’t be uncommon for Michigan to go over to Iowa City and lose in years when we were Big Ten title contenders. We aren’t going to be contending for any Big Ten titles this year and football and we won’t be beating Iowa either. Look for this to be a 8:00 game to be one of Michigan’s ugliest games of the year. Come on, only two more wins to be bowl eligible!!!
Final Score: Iowa 27 Michigan 10
4-2 (1-2)

October 17 – Delaware St
Delaware St is coming off of a solid 5-6 season in the MEAC so this one should be a close one. With the way the Maize and Blue play down to their competition (see App St and Toledo), there is no such thing as sure win. With the App St and Toledo game fresh in the minds of the players and Rich Rod (he will be fired instantly if they lose to the Hornets), they won’t let it happen again. Michigan in a laugher.
Final Score: Michigan 42 Delaware St 3
5-2 (1-2)

October 24 – Penn St
For Michigan to go to a decent bowl game (which isn’t what we are asking for….just any bowl game will do), they will have to win two of the next four games. We had Penn St’s number up until last year. And even last year, we were WINNING at halftime and went on to get outscored by like 50 and lose and blow the cover for anybody that might have had Michigan plus a ton and thought it was in the bag. Not that I know anyone that had Michigan in that game or anything. Penn St will be the second or third best team in the Big Ten this year. Michigan will be the fifth to seventh best team. I know any team can win on any given day, but Michigan will have to catch lightning in a bottle to win this one.
Final Score: Penn St. 31 Michigan 20
5-3 (1-3)

October 31 @ Illinois
I never wish bad health on anyone, but I sure hope Juice Williams isn’t going to be playing in this game. He has lit up the Maize and Blue the past two years and had me having flashbacks of what Donovan McNabb did to us in 1998. But look for defensive coordinator Greg Robinson to pull some tricks out of his hat and limit Mr. Williams. This is one of those games that Michigan fans are scratching their head afterwards wondering how did they just do that. In my upset special pick of the year….
Final Score: Michigan 24 Illinois 17
6-3 (2-3)

November 7 – Purdue
The Boilermakers made our defense look very, very bad last year. Never should a Michigan team give up 48 pts to any team that went 4-8. Michigan fans want to forget about last year, but just can’t. Not until the first game of the season. And Michigan fans won’t be able to forget about the 48-42 loss to the Boilermakers until after they defeat them.
Final Score: Michigan 30 Purdue 17
7-3 (3-3)

November 14 @ Wisconsin
Games in November against any team other than Ohio St are usually won by the Badgers. With these teams alternating wins the past four seasons, it is Wiskey’s turn to win. They will win and it will be an ugly, boring game to watch. Hopefully since they have defeated Michigan in recent history, there won’t be any fatalities like there were in 1993. Act like you’ve been there before Badger fans.
Final Score: Wiskey 17 Michigan 13
7-4 (3-4)

November 21 – Ohio St
I know I had the wish for a bowl game and Michigan will be bowl eligible going into this game. So since that wish was granted, I’m looking for another wish. Please, please, please can this game be close? Can we have some meaningful football in the 2nd half? Can there be enough hope for Michigan to win so we can have our Michigan – Ohio St? I’m not sure that we have a chance to win this one, actually I know we have no chance, but I think it will be closer this year. If not, this will be another reason for Rich Rod’s firing, even after a seven win season. Keep talking Buckeye fan. The momentum meter is definitely on your side. But wait, the Wolverines will be back soon.
Final Score: Ohio St 20 Michigan 13
7-5 (3-5)

A 7 win season may be a ballsy prediction, but Michigan will be much improved. They aren’t quite on the level of a Penn St or Ohio St, but as Spartan fans like to say, they have ‘closed the gap.’ 2010 is our year….look out Horseshoe.

our scenario is highly unlikely. First, you are going to lose to Notre Dame, who has much more talent than you do. I also think that you lose to Illinois. That gives ou a mre believeable5-7 record, and that is if you get past Western Michigan, a teamthat is pretty good and has nothing to lose. Ithink you have more of a shot against a predictable Wisconsin team than you do against Illinois.

As far as comiing back, let's face it. Michingan has a long ways to go.For years, they have been nothing more than a good Big 10 Team, making them an average team in the SEC, Pac 10, and Big 12. They will have no chance against Ohio State next year, and will also lose to Notre Dame. Both of those games are on the road. The good news is that Michigan has their cream puffs lined up. They play UMass (FCS team) and Bowling Green at home, and have another opening, which they will fill with another FCS school or a MAC team. Michigan is afraid to schedule real teams because of what happened when they played Oregon and Utah at home. So Michigan may get to a bowl game this year, and may improve next year, but they are years away from becoming a great team. Those days have been gone for a long time. Michigan is just part of the pack now in the Big 10.

Winning is contagious. I think its a great idea to play some cream puffs in the non-conference games to get on a roll. Michigan had a top ten recruiting class last year and has a nice crop already committed for next season. Like I have told everyone, get us while you can. This is MICHIGAN, the team with the most wins in college football history.

Yeah, but the problem is they need people to actually "stay"

How many guys have left sice R-Rod took over? 10?

I know its early, but Ohio St wins 31-13 this season...

Michigan is on it's way back to being a top 20 team, give it another year. RR is a prick but knows how to win and he's bringing in top 10 recruiting classes every year. Michigan has always been a top program and that has nothing to do with the conference they play in. They just beat Tebow and the Gators 2 years ago so I think some are getting a little carried away with a down year last year and another possibly on the horizon. CFB runs in cycles and every proud program has bad years, look at USC in the 90's. 4 out of 10 years they didn't even make a bowl game and couldn't even muster a winning record in the one's they played in. Now with their coaching and talent things are different and the same will be true at Michigan.

If their defense comes together this year they have a shot at 7 wins.

I think 6-7 wins is realistic this year if Forcier plays well, and we stay relatively injury-free...Also agree that we have a better chance against Wisky than Illinois. We'll lose, and probably handily, to Ohio State but it won't be the rout that it was last year. We should lose to the Irish this year, but with Fat Charlie on the Irish sidelines, it's not a "gimme" by any means. 2010 is when Michigan should return to the national radar. But you never know, if Michigan can come through September undefeated (big, big if) and get a road win at Michigan State on October 3? Should be an interesting season.

I think we can all agree Michigan will be improved. However, they took a significant step back from a talent standpoint...

I think 6-7 wins is realistic...but anything more would be more overachievement then talent development...

No, no, no, no, no. I know I am probably biased here in saying this, but Michigan has had one bad season in the past 30 or so. Bad meaning going 3-9 and getting embarrassed in most games. Sure there have been some seasons where they underachieved, but Michigan still gets great recruits nationally and will be back soon. As somebody posted earlier, they were coming off a thumping of the immortal Florida Gators when Lloyd Carr hung up his whistle and Rich Rod came in and put in his system. I would like for you to find a program that hasn't had a bad season in the past 30 yrs. I know I am standing on a soapbox preaching the greatness of Michigan, but this is something that I have heard people harp on. I know you are only as good as your last game, your last season, etc. But we're not talking about a Rutgers or West Virginia that has a good team every now and then. Florida has been down. Notre Dame has been down. Penn St was awful a few years back. THIS IS MICHIGAN!!!!

When U Win Say Nothing.

When U Lose Say Even Less.

Lets not count our chickens before they're hatched.

However, I hope you are correct in your predictions for M this year.

Let me begin by saying that the home opener will be a very difficult game for Michigan to win. Western is a solid team with a senior QB and we can't even beat App State. I'll be there again with my fingers crossed.

IMHO. Nothing much will change this year other than more letdowns and disgruntled fans/Alumni.

Can't see us winning more than four games, but stranger things have happened.

Wins: WM, Del, IOWA, Indiana and they will all be very close games where field goals may make the difference.

Rich didn't get the QB he needed again and this will be another very problematic area for us --- again.

2010 ------ see you then and we may go 8 and 4.

GO BLUE!!!

Really doubt Michigan beats Iowa but Purdue is very winnable.

Let's take a realistic look at this schedule:

Western Michigan. Tougher than some may expect. An upset possibility here, but Michigan should win a close game. 1-0

Notre Dame. Michigan does not have the talent that Notre Dame does. The difference at QB would be enough for the Irish, but their overall talent is simply better than Michigan's. 1-1

Eastern Michigan. A laugher for Michigan, if Michigan gets a laugher this year. A lot of Michigan Alum wanted English to get the HC job. RR knows it. 2-1

Indiana. The Alleged "Big" 10 season starts with a big nothing. Michigan pulls away. 3-1

At Michigan State. Reality sinks in after two cakewalks. This team is not good eonough to win games on the road, and Sparty proves that. 3-2

At Iowa. This will be a very physical game, something that Michigan does not have a lot of. Iowa bullies Michigan. 3-3

Delaware State. Michingan should feel disgrased for scheduling this cupcake. App State to tough? 4-3

Penn State. Michigan may keep this closer than some think, but they do not have nearly the talent that JoePa has. 4-4

At Illinois. This is a maybe game, and could be the differnce between a successful season and another bust. Michigan will have to contol the Juice. Close, but no cigar. 4-5

Purdue. Another Big 10 laugher for Michigan. Their last for the year. 5-5

At Wisconsin. A better shot for a road win for Michigan here. Wisky is one dementional, but again, the bully factor takes effect. An upset is possible, but, nah... 5-6

Ohio State. Michigan keeps it close, for 1 quarter. Then the superior team wears them down. No change for Michigan in this game. 5-7.

So unless Michigan can pull an uspet on the road, it is another lousy season for them. AT best, we are looking at 7-5, but that is the absolute best this team can do. Michigan fans want a return to the glory days. What Michigan fans have to realize is that the Big 10's version of "glory days" is a far cry from the rest of the NCAA's version. It will be years before Michigan becomes a team that can put fear in the heart of other good teams.

50-50 split on blame for this one. Half of the blame falls on the traditionalists who refuse to schedule anything after the Ohio State game, and the other half falls on Jim Delany for ending Big Ten play in Week 12 of the college football season, and starting conference play Week 4. Everyone is in the middle of their conference schedules during that time, so scheduling a home game against anyone is tough. With the new press boxes / luxary suites on the way, the athletic department is making sure that they as much additional revenue coming into the program. Perhaps Delaware State came for the least amount of money?

Will I be attending that game? Absolutely not. I will either be in Bloomington, IN watching Illinois vs. Indiana or watching the only two directional Michigan schools that matter battle it out for the 3rd best team in the state (CMU at WMU). Hopefully ESPN Plus will do me a favor and pick the WMU - CMU game as their "MAC Game of the Week" (12:00 PM every Saturday on ABC) so I can pull off a double header.

I love all of the Mich doubters
:cripwalk:

Those "Michigan doubters" are called "realists..."

And just for the record....it has been 2,084 days since Michigan last beat Ohio St as of August 6, 2009....wow...that's a lot of gold pants...:)<<
