When she made that 9 last week, she honestly had no clue what she had done. She had to ask her caddy to add them up.

Has nothing to do with math. You do not need to get the math right. You just need to make sure each hole is the accurate score.

Wie DQ'd after failing to sign scorecard - 07/19/2008

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- After all the drama that’s surrounded the 18-year-old over the past two years, she was disqualified Saturday following the third round of the LPGA State Farm Classic for failure to sign her scorecard after Friday’s second round. And here’s the kicker: She was only a shot out of the lead, giving her perhaps her best chance at a first victory as a professional.

According to the Rules of Golf, Wie violated Rule 6-6b which states that “the competitor should check his score for each hole and settle any doubtful points with the Committee. He must ensure that the marker or markers have signed the scorecard, sign the scorecard himself and return it to the Committee as soon as possible.”

Wie was notified following the conclusion of Saturday’s third round in order to provide her the opportunity to give an account of Friday’s events. The LPGA first heard of the violation mid-morning Saturday, but it was after Wie had begun the third round.

The LPGA rules define the scoring area as the roped area defining the boundary of the scoring tent. Supplementary rules stipulate that the scoring area boundary may instead be defined by a white line, which has the effect of decreasing the size of the scoring area. The white line was not deemed necessary this week and was not put in place, and as a result, the boundary is the scoring tent.

Prior to signing her card, Wie had left the defined scoring area, resulting in eventual disqualification.

“I don’t know how it happened,” said Wie, who clearly had been crying.

Wie had shot 67-65-67 and was a shot behind leader Yani Tseng heading into the final round. At one point during the third round, Wie had held the outright lead.

The LPGA and Associated Press contributed to this report

in the back of my head I have to wonder if the same end result would've happened to another golfer that isn't hated as much by all her peers/fans.

At least she's playing well again. Maybe we'll get less crying if she can continue to do this well in the future.

i think the whole idea of players having to sign a score card needs to be shelved.

they have markers and several people walking with every group.

they know how tight their g-string was when they hit the previous shot so that info can be sent to the website.

just let the players play and let someone else keep score .

I tend to agree--outdated rules--but the rules are the rules. Gotta know the rules.
