the more i think about it, the 7th does make a bit of sense. hopefully Darrius is not going to command a lot of money even though he was the 7th pick and not the best WR in the draft. i think i can say big names don't belong in the Oakland organizations, hasn't worked since '02. Oakland has the 3rd biggest payroll when they enter '08 and it should be higher in '09 because of Russell, T. Kelly, Javon Walker, and the new contract they handed out to Asomugha that would pay him $9.7mil. You also have to factor in that Oakland has a hard time selling out their home tickets because the games are usually blackout. I know the team's value isn't much since they moved to Oakland. should be dead last or one of the last 5.
what they should have done is trade the 7th pick for 15-20th pick in the 1st + additional later round picks, and they probably would have gotten Darrius without a doubt. someone also needs to tell Al Davis he really needs a GM to make those draft day picks instead of him. i remember they sign their starting RB Fargas, then they went an draft RB McFadden with their 1st pick. not sure if that even make sense. other option, move back to L.A., the market is huge over there, they are dying for a real football team.
Raider's philosophy is to get veteran players that know the game and have above average stats in their resume. either that or have a big game like being the MVP of the Super Bowl. from there, Al Davis can assemble them and put them in a group of winners. it's possible to be successful if he gets a group of veteran, not just one like they did with Randy Moss. they made the SB with a 11-5 record and only had to get by the Jets & Titans at home.
