Hurricanes athletic director Blake James made the announcement Sunday evening. Tight ends coach and run game coordinator Larry Scott will serve as interim head coach.
"Coach Golden has led our program through some very difficult times and he has done so with class, integrity and a true desire to see our students succeed on the field, in the classroom and in the community," James said in a release. "However, we have a proud tradition of excellence at Miami, not just in football but in all sports, and we want to compete for ACC and national championships. I simply believe that now is the time to bring the Hurricane Family together and rally behind our young men."

Golden was 32-25 (17-18 in the ACC) in his four-plus seasons in Coral Gables, but a 58-0 home loss Saturday to undefeated Clemson proved to be the end of his tenure. Miami is just 4-3 this season, one year after going 6-7 despite having seven players who were eventually selected in the 2015 NFL draft.
Golden also went 0-5 against rival Florida State during his tenure.

Fans had been flying banners attached to planes above Miami games throughout this season, imploring Miami to fire Golden. Former Hurricanes players were regularly vocal in their disapproval of Golden.

Golden shepherded the Miami program through two years of self-imposed bowl bans (2011, 2012) and under the cloud of an NCAA scandal in light of the Nevin Shapiro case. Golden had been hired from Temple in December of 2010.

The NCAA ultimately docked Miami nine total scholarships over the 2014-16 seasons, during which time the entire athletic program has been on probation.
"On behalf of my family I want to thank the University of Miami for a tremendous opportunity," Golden said in a release. "I believe in what we are doing and how we are doing it and we have some outstanding young men in our football program. Though this moment is difficult, we wish the Canes the best of luck going forward."

Miami is a trainwreck. The thug thing they had going on will never play today.....poor support.....shitty stadium nowhere near campus.

Joe Tessitores comments pretty much nail it.

My buddy s a huge Miami fan and he gets pissed when I tell him that no one of any note is going to take this job. The coach of Kentucky makes 1 million more then they were paying Golden. Its a joke. They don't pay and they have terrible facilities and no stadium. How many big time colleges dont have their own stadium? it cant be many. The funniest part of it all i keep hearing some people throw out ridiculous names like Chip Kelly. Why in the good hell would chip kelly even take that phone call. Let me go from making 6.5 mil and take a step down to a team paying 2.5 mil. Lets be honest, until they want to pay big boy money the best hire they can make is going to be someone like Tom Herman or some hot coordinator

It is the most over rated job in College Football.
I think I would rather Vanderbelt.

Miami is a joke of a job....don;t really think it's over rated. Havent hired a decent coach in awhile.

Small school with no stadium, no fan base and shitty facilities.

Only way to compete is to cheat like they did in the late 80's and early 90's...comparable to many SEC teams now.

Damn strong Easy....again I go back to who is President? She never should have been hired in the first place. Billy Clinton got her the job for political reasons...she covered and kiss his ass through his ordeals.

My buddy said she is retiring after this year. I'm not sure if that true or not but its what he told me. But I agree, she isn't helping matters. She doesn't care at all about sports, which to an extent is fine i guess. The Michigan President doesn't really care about sports either but at the same time he realizes the importance and lets the AD have complete control over it

Miami, with the talent pool in just 4 counties could become a contender again with the right leadership heading the University. If the school wants to play big time CFB...they have to build an on campus stadium. Otherwise, the recruiting game for top talent will travel.

As a Bama fan....thanks South Florida!

I was thinking about that --- in terms of college jobs/programs, where does Miami rank?

It's definitely an overrated job --- some people think it's a Top 10 job, but it's probably more like Top 15-30.

Of course, that's part of the problem. Their fans (or whatever you call the Miami bandwagon/wannabes) expect them to be a National contender --- but other than location/weather, they're waaaaaaaaay behind other programs. Every Miami coach has to battle the unrealistic expectations.

The growth of Florida college football (Florida Atlantic, Florida Intl, Central Florida, South Florida) has hurt Miami more than Florida & FSU.
