1. Your team played a minor league scedule all year long and still only won 86 games.

2. There were 3 teams who played stronger schedules and had better records but didnt even make the playoffs.

3. Florida played a much stronger scedule and had a better record but the Cubs got games 6 and 7 at home.

you cannot say that 1 bad break is anywhere near all the good breaks you guys got this year. Hell, the Cubs didnt even deserve to be in the playoffs in the first place. They got a playoff spot by default playing in a minor league division.

Chicago Cubs

18 games against Cincinatti

18 Games against Milwaukee

18 games against Pittsburgh

54 games = 39-15 record

Not counting these 3 joke teams. Cubs record = 57 wins and 61 losses. Under .500

wanna blame someone?

you have three to pick from...Dusty Baker, Alex Gonzalez or the entire Cubs bullpen. Take your pick

Danny:

If the Cubs were so bad, how in the world did they beat Florida 3 games this week? How in the world did they beat the Braves 3 games last week? You make it sound like they should have a 500 record at best. They lost around 90 games last year and improved drasticly this year. Last year did they play a different schedule than this year? Judging from your conclusions, it's a miracle that they took Fla to 7 games this series. Maybe they are just a smidge better than you give them credit for?

Hitman,

With the addition of Prior and Zambrano, they obviously improved. The division also got much weaker. The Reds only had 1 starter in the lineup the last 2 months. You know this division was a total joke. It wasnt near this bad last year.

I am just saying that I dont understand how a team can be handed break after break after break all year long and then cry when they get one bad break.

By the way, NO the Cubs should not have been in the playoffs. Play 1/3 of your season against Milwaukee, Pittsburgh, and Cincinatti and barley manage a .500 record. NO they didnt deserve to be in the playoffs.

Where did you get this from? Did you just make it up? FACTS: Cubs vs.
Milwaukee 11-6
Cinci 10-7
Pitt 10-8
Total: 31-21
88-74 total means they were 57-53 against the rest of the league. In fact they were the only team in the division with a combined winning record against the West/East (32-28).

Say what you wish, but please at least get the facts right, or close to right.

lol, Danny - didn't 'deserve' to be in the playoffs???

That's right, I forgot - San Francisco and Atlanta 'deserved' to be in the playoffs, and I find it absolutely outrageous that they lost to more 'un-deserving' teams. Why, I'm so mad about this I'm petitioning MLB to eliminate all divisions in each league, and only allow the 2 best teams across BOTH leagues with a combination of the best regular season records AND the best talent (to be determined using a BCS-like formula) to make the World Series. Playoffs??? We don't need no stinkin' playoffs, because a lot of times the better team loses and that's just unfair, totally unfair. Why should they have to play weaker teams when they've proved themselves all year long, until it really counted?

Sign me up, Danny, I'm a convert. Hell, fvck that, let's just let the Yankees and the Braves automatically win the WS every year, each alternating so as to soothe the fans.

DannyMay, IMO any team in the playoffs deserves to be in the playoffs. If in any sport, then most certainly in one that plays 162 games. One can also point out that that division has an extra team in it.

Now briefly I would like to apologize for a post that I made entitled "My Letter to Steve Bartman."

It was at best an ill conceived attempt at humor about a topic which needs no further comment on. At worst it was a cruel and unfortunate lack of judgement on my part which I'm sure most found to be offensive by this point.

I would like the record to show that I only wish Mr. Bartman the best and in no way do I hold him responsible for what eventually transpired. He indeed is a tragic figure and I do truly fear for his future not so much about retaliatory actions, though those they can't be ruled out in the sick society we live in. I think his mental health after all of this is where there is a potential for tragedy.

d2bets,

I dont have the time to add wins and losses back up again, but I will if I indeed turn out to be wrong on the EXACT record. However, it doesnt in any way change the point I was trying to make. They did play 1/3 of their schedule against Cincinatti, Milwaukee, and Pittsburgh. 1/3 of their schedule was played against these three minor league teams. Also, they had a 57-53 record outside of these 3 teams by your own account. What is that - a .510 winning percentage ? do you think that deserves to make the playoffs ? Either way the point has been missed entirely.

You missed the title of this thread -- "Message to the FEW Cub fans ..." I am only speaking to the few Cub fans who are so idiotic as to threaten this guy's life or ask him to committ suicide. If you are not included in that group, this message was not intended for you. However, for that group they are stupid. Their team has gotten break after break after break after break all year long and now they want to threaten a kids life for 1 bad break.

Yeah go ahead and tell me how the Cubs deserved Home field advantage against a team that played a much strongfer schedule and finished with a better record.

Houston and St. Louis had better records against those 3 teams you named than the Cubs did. So is your position that none of the Central teams should be in the playoffs. That's just not the way it works. Oh, and in fact the two worst teams in the NL were in the East-New York, and the West-San Diego.

The Cubs earned their way into the playoffs, they dethroned the team with the best record in the NL and they damn near made the WS. They belonged.

You cannot judge the Mets as the worse team in the NL just because they had 2 fewer wins. Come on, they had to play the NL east schedule. They didnt get to play that cream puff NL Central schedule. And their Interleague play was against the Yankees not the Tigers. Anyway I guess we will just have to disagree because we can go back and forth forever on this and you are obviously a Cub fan and thus not looking at this from a truly objective position.

Anyway, my true point of this thread was not to say they didnt belong. They got in because they played in the weakest division in baseball. That is how it works. Even though the division was a joke - they won it. I suppose if the NBA had a division with 3 teams in it --me, you and Jazz then the winner of our 3 man division would be able to say he belonged. I will give you that. They won the division.

Anyway like I said that wasnt the true point of the thread. My true point with this thread was to say the Cubs had several breaks given to them this year so for the few Cub fans trying to make Bartman a scapegoat on 1 bad break I was just saying they should realize that they got far more good breaks than bad breaks.

Remember the one thing I said that you havent disagreed with is that the Marlins played a stronger schedule and had a better record and yet the Cubs got the last 2 games at home. That unearned break is far more than enough to offset the 1 bad break that occured in the stands.

We will just have to disagree on this, the Cubs year is over and for that I am happy. We will just have to disagee.
