2nd and third, swisher got out at first on that grounder, melky has had alot of clutch hits for the yankees as hes seen more playing time. cano has had a hot bat in general, without knowing career numbers, i would have liked to seen them let nathan try to get cano to get himself out, and if worse came to worse, just walk him if he got into a 3-1 count.

My bad. If it was already 2nd and 3rd that's not so bad. You're probably right about Cano, but I think the thinking around the league is that he's a better hitter than Cabrera. Also, the IBB gives them a force at any base. Although it also puts a lot of pressure on Nathan to throw strikes.
most def cano is the more respected hitter, but walking the bases loaded in the 9th will get melky jacked up, its a big insult to the player that they choose to face you. as you pointed out, nathan had nowhere to put him and melky knew he would be forced to throw strikes.
