Too Easy

That's how Roger Federer makes tennis seem. He takes a game filled with grunts and looks as if he's gliding effortlessly on the court, almost floating, artistically painting lines and corners with winners.

Federer made a bagel sandwich of 2001 champion Lleyton Hewitt in a 6-0, 7-6 (3), 6-0 U.S. Open final Sunday two holey sets surrounding a tiebreak to win his third Grand Slam title of the year and the fourth of his young career.

It's tempting, after watching so thorough a thrashing the first with two shutout sets in the U.S. men's championship match since 1884 to wonder if the self-coached, 23-year-old Swiss might be on his way to becoming the greatest player in history.

Hewitt seemed to be on the top of his game which made the Federer thrashing that much more impressive

Longevity is tough to come by, but no one has been this dominant talentwise for the men since Borg was at the top of his game. Lots of guys have done well since then, notably Sampras and Agassi, but no one else comes into matches like Federer does where you say if he is even at 90% the other guy probably can't win. I remember watching Agassi a few months ago, can't remember the tourney, playing Federer. Andre looked damn good, had his whole arsenal working and Roger just toyed with him. Whenever he needed a point he would just smash a winner and Andre couldn't stop it. Today was a match that when he wanted it he just took it over. Feel sorry for the people though that spent big bucks on this one today, this one had no chance of even being competitive.
