The McDonald's guy working the window was in business for himself with maybe a partner on the grill. The whole transaction never saw the ordering system/cash register and the employee pocketed your entire amount. Most likely he forgot you had a discount coming because that would only show up in a legitimately entered order into the store computer system on the printout-receipt.

Rat him out if you want - but me personally - would let the a guy make a few bucks when he can in a shit job like that..Old as the hills scam in restaurants and bars, even fast food joints..Especially at odd hours when there is little to no management around.

Most likely good inventory control at the store will identify that they have a thief and they will catch him sooner or later..

wil..
Although it seems most likely that the whole order never went into the system, i haven't had this problem before and i frequent this drive thru quite often. I would never rat the guy out because it is a horrible existence that these guys live working at this McDonalds with no real hope for a better job or better opportunity. They have to deal with drunk students on a nightly basis who constantly harass them and are out of control but i will take my business to Taco Bell and Burger King more often if this happens again.

The main thing to remember here is that although a receipt isn't a contract, it is considered evidence of a contract. And most likely if you went to the McDonalds main office or maybe even in-store and complained, you would more than likely get your shortchanged or overcharged money back. Always make sure you get a receipt before you drive off.

The other day Taco Bell scammed me but in a strange way.

I ordered some stuff and one drink and when I get to the window the guy gives me two drinks and he's all excited telling me how the extra drink is cause "we love to please the customer." Then he's telling me to call the number on the receipt and give the store good ratings. I'm thinking "What a nice guy" but then when I checked the receipt he charged me for two drinks. I don't get it. Even if they put in an extra drink they can quickly erase. I thought that was strange.

That seems like more of a mistake charging you for the 2 drinks if he went out of his way to tell you it was free. Popeyes had a deal the last 2 years around me for about 2 weeks where they were giving out free 2 pc dinner meals if you just completed a phone survey rating the store. They didn't prominently advertise it at the store so most people didn't know about it, but for me and my friends it was a great 2 weeks

What makes you think that people who work at McD dont have any real hope for a better job?
Are you aware that the CEO of McDonalds worked the drive thru window when he was 18?
Carl Lewis, the fastest man in the world worked there.
Jeff Bezos, billionaire and founder of Amazon.com worked there.
Jay Leno worked there.
Pink the singer worked there.

Although I never worked there, back when I was in high school I worked at one of McD's competitors, and according to Obama im rich.

So I disagree with you.

I knew someone who worked in a pizza chain and the guy would make $500 on a weekend. They would get together with the cook. Unfortunately stuff like this is very common. I always use a bank card to pay so they can't pull this kind of thing off. This only works if you're paying cash.

i agree with what some said, based on the facts here, that order never went in the system and he tried to add it in his head real qucik and carried an extra (1) on his math.......

when i was a manager years ago at Wendy's we had dollar menu items, and we caught the drive through guy not rigning in orders for "just drinks"...he could add that in his head, and didnt need to get anything from kitchen, he was pocketing the money, and it can add up REAL QUICK........

Because most of the people working at this McDonalds appear to be in there late 40's or so, speak very little English and are not working managerial jobs but just taking orders. I agree McDonalds is actually a very good job to have and is looked at highly by many corporations but the people at this McDonalds seem to be working more for there kids/family etc. So if these were young kids i would agree they have chances for better jobs, but that is why i disagree. And although you can list 5 or so famous people who worked there, i can list 1000X as many who dont go anywhere

That is a big problem. But it is about a 45 second walk to get there and is right on the way home from the bars. I do try to mix it up with other fast food places but McDonalds gets the most run. Don't know how to cook and figure its not too bad as long as i remain as skinny as i am

Whats worse is after finding out the place was run by 2 bit thieves you actually trusted them to cook your food for you? i pull up to fast food places all the time, take 1 look at the employees and just starve till i get home. i wouldnt trust them to fix me a glass of water...

Did you ever make the Call and speak to a manager ??

Nope. Decided i just didn't care enough to make a deal out of it. I just thought it was amusing/weird that someone would potentially scam me for so little cash(altho it makes sense now if they are doing it to multiple cars). Also-could have been an honest mistake and no need to get anyone in trouble over that. If it ever happens again tho, i will talk to the manager and i will print a copy of this thread as evidence of past transgressions against me.
