Politico is reporting

He's being forced to defend states republicans normally do not have to defend..have to wonder if his resources are getting too thin.

McCain pulling out of Michigan

John McCain is pulling out of Michigan, according to two Republicans, a stunning move a month away from Election Day that indicates the difficulty Republicans are having in finding blue states to put in play.

McCain will go off TV in Michigan, stop dropping mail there and send most of his staff to more competitive states, including Wisconsin, Ohio and Florida. Wisconsin went for Kerry in 2004, Ohio and Florida for Bush.

McCain's campaign didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

Republicans had been bullish on Michigan, hopeful that McCain's past success in the state in the 2000 primary combined with voter dissatisfaction with Democratic Gov. Jennifer Granholm and skepticism among blue-collar voters about Barack Obama could make it competitive.

McCain and his running mate Sarah Palin spent the night after the GOP convention at a large rally in Macomb County, just outside Detroit. The two returned later last month for another sizable event in Grand Rapids.

But recent polls there have shown Obama extending what had been a small lead, with the economic crisis damaging an already sagging GOP brand in a state whose economy is in tatters.

A McCain event planned for next week in Plymouth, Michiigan, has been canceled.

Probably a needed strategic move with too many red states still in play.

Looks like the Kerry states he's trying to flip are

PA
WI
NH

He is trying to hold

NC
IN
OH
FL
CO
NV
VA
IA (should be next where he pulls out from...if he's even there)
NM (kinda feel the same way as IA)

Lot of defense

He loses OH and CO, game over. PA is going blue, not a question.

Yeah I agree with PA....keep it in there though until McCain pulls out.

McCain's in CA this weekend for a fundraiser...isn't this the same exact thing people criticized Obama for when he didn't take public financing. He'd have to spend too much time in states that didn't matter raising money. Why is McCain doing that?

I don't know if they have enough money to play that much defense. I forgot to throw MO is there too...even though that's staying red (most likely with IN & NC)...he's having to spend time and money there which isn't good.

Not to mention 4 days off the campaign trail (where she may be strongest) for Sarah because of the debates.

I said it all along, McCain winning is like hitting a 6-team parlay. He has no margin for error. And now he has almost no chance.

btw...as the economy is at a critical state, I did some phone banking last night and this morning. It's amazing how eager voters out there have no problem donating to Obama's campaign. Repeat as well as 1st time donors.

Too bad McPlain can't garner the same support from his people.

I feel like a lot of times these ad tracking people don't do a good job so take this with a grain of salt.....

In a sign of how rapidly the race is shifting right now, Evan Tracey, who tracks national ad buys for the Campaign Media Analysis Group, tells me that as of Tuesday, McCain was outspending Obama in Michigan. Now McCain is apparently pulling out.

According to the AP: It's costly to run advertising in the state; McCain's campaign was spending $1 million a week in the state.

I always thought protesting these things were silly...maybe you energize the volunteers a bit but that time protesting is much better spent doing other things that can actually result in votes.

It's not particularly "interesting" to say ""A" is maintaining a comfortable margin over "B"" every day, and IMO the press and pollsters have a tendency to show the underdog doing better than he actually is. Remember them breathlessly reporting Hillary's "charge," when in reality the way the Dem primary works she had practically no shot? The problem is exacerbated by the fact that almost every time McNutt and that Neo-Nazi twat open their respective yaps, they make fools of themselves, but it's hard to maintain popularity if you're being muzzled, as she is finding out to her chagrin. :nohead::aktion033:ohno:

On Sportsbook, Obama -400 to win Michigan looks like a sure bet now. Only problem is you're money is tied up for over a month. Hate to use the word "lock", but it's pretty damn close!
