He's correct. Bin Laden was a freedom fighter who helped the Afghanis against the Russians. He is in no way referring to bin Laden's attacks on America as being a freedom fighter.

I listened to it twice and didn't hear bin Laden's name mentioned once so it's not like he called bin Laden a freedom fighter directly is it? He did so by inference. In my mind there's quite a bit of difference.
