Dallas Mavericks' Antawn Jamison won the NBA's Sixth Man Award, which honors the league's top reserve player, Friday.

Jamison got 338 points, including 43 out of 120 first-place votes, from a panel of sportswriters and broadcasters to easily outpoint Indiana Pacers' Al Harrington, who received 275 points, and San Antonio Spurs' Manu Ginobili with 244 points.

Jamison has played in all 82 regular season games for the Mavericks, coming off the bench to average 14.8 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.01 steals per game in his first season in Dallas.

Antoine Walker and Jamison were the only Mavericks to play in all of Dallas' regular season games.

A first-round selection by Toronto in the 1998 NBA Draft, and fourth overall, Jamison's draft rights were traded by the Raptors to the Golden State Warriors for the draft rights to Vince Carter.

Last August Jamison was traded to Dallas from the Warriors in a multi-player deal.

I was rooting for Manu Ginobili, but hats off to Jamison for a great season.

But what happened to Jamison being a dominant player, he sure looked like a blossoming superstar a couple years back...

Actually being a 6th man on a good team is nothing to be ashamed about. There have been some very good players over the years that have won the award:

1982-83: Bobby Jones, Philadelphia 76ers
1983-84: Kevin McHale, Boston Celtics
1984-85: Kevin McHale, Boston Celtics
1985-86: Bill Walton, Boston Celtics
1986-87: Ricky Pierce, Milwaukee Bucks
1987-88: Roy Tarpley, Dallas Mavericks
1988-89: Eddie Johnson, Phoenix Suns
1989-90: Ricky Pierce, Milwaukee Bucks
1990-91: Detlef Schrempf, Indiana Pacers
1991-92: Detlef Schrempf, Indiana Pacers
1992-93: Clifford Robinson, Portland Trail Blazers
1993-94: Dell Curry, Charlotte Hornets
1994-95: Anthony Mason, New York Knicks
1995-96: Toni Kukoc, Chicago Bulls
1996-97: John Starks, New York Knicks
1997-98: Danny Manning, Phoenix Suns
1998-99: Darrell Armstrong, Orlando Magic
1999-00: Rodney Rogers, Phoenix Suns
2000-01: Aaron McKie, Philadelphia 76ers
2001-02: Corliss Williamson, Detroit Pistons
2002-03: Bobby Jackson, Sacramento Kings
2003-04: Antawn Jamison, Dallas Mavericks

Kevin Mchale may be the most well known.

I just thought Jamison was going to be a dominant starter for 12 years, averaging 20+ and pulling 9 RPG...he did start out that way, and he may well get back to that...

BTW Wil, was Cornbread Maxwell starting over McHale back then...I had forgotten K Mac (lol) was off the bench...like that K Mac nick lol?

Right - it was Cornbread, Chief, and Bird that started with K Mac coming off the bench back then.
