Maurice Clarett

On Tuesday, ESPN The Magazine reported former Ohio State running back Maurice Clarett claims he ''took the fall'' for Ohio State during a 2003 NCAA investigation and wants to ''clear his name'' with NFL owners and GMs. He claims he received cash and other benefits from head coach Jim Tressel and his staff as well as boosters.

Ohio State athletic director Andy Geiger says "We dealt with this guy [Clarett] for 18 months. I just hope you've checked into the background and history of who you're dealing with.''

What do you make of the situation? Is Clarett a victim of people trying to take advantage of his athletic ability or is Clarett to blame for accepting money and gifts when he knew it was against NCAA regulations? Should NFL owners and GMs take a chance on Clarett when the NFL Draft rolls around?

I tend to believe a guy like Jim Tressle over an 18 year old punk from the projects.

Instead of trashing MC, why not check into what he has to say and THEN form a judgement?

Monica was trashed by Clinton's crowd until the blue dress popped up. Even if a person is useless, what he has to say might have merit - but OSU doesn't want anyone to verify what he has to say, and they trash MC to make sure people don't take it seriously.

Maybe he is a punk, maybe he is an a$$hole - but that doesn't mean OSU hasn't cheated.

Shooting the messenger and ignoring the message is all too commonplace these days.

Being from Ohio and attended Ohio State myself, I can tell you MC is way offline here..This guy is given the golden opportunity, instead of using it he goes back to his old self...I know A LOT this guy has done..he deserves everything coming to him.

Agree - MC is a punk. He deserves what he is going to get.

BUT

Why can't what he says be investigated????? Maybe because Geiger doesn't want us to? OSU is going to get hit HARD if the stuff he says is true, and they know it.

maurice is a troubled young man.

he sues the NFL and wastes everyones time and money, now he is attacking his university. after this he will be out of big storys to have aired except maybe getting caught purchasing crack

No. scouts say he looked terrible in the combine before the over rule was made that kept him out. his work ethic sucks and he is not even close to game shape. he made a lot of bad judgements in his life, probably too many to recover from.

if he gets his crap together and plays in NFL europe or the CFL and starts busting his butt, he might have a chance. doubt it though.

I'm not ignoring the message. I just think it's pretty low class to come out of the woodwork to get the attention he needs to have all the time (Similar to guys like TO and others)

He broke the rules too... He chose not to tell anyone until AFTER he can no longer be punished for it. Only OSU can be punished for it. He's not just low class...he's no class.

The standards for an athlete are MUCH MUCH lower than that which a university has to abide by. It's one thing for MC to get extra benefits, it's a BIGGER problem if OSU condoned it or even helped him get away with it.

If Tressel did take him car shopping, OSU has to pay for it - regardless of what MC gets/got as punishment.

OSU finally beat U of M and won a National Championship - how sweet would it be if that trophy had to be returned? It would make my day.

I agree... They will have to pay for it if they did something wrong. And I will look down upon them if they did. But nothing has been proven yet. Clarett has proven he's a dirtbag.

college sports are a focking disgrace.this one thing.if he couldnt run with a football would ohio st have let him in the door? no way,thats why ohio st and most d1 programs are just as focked up as mc.
